I was at Disney this past weekend and i heard some workers chatting about a possible upcoming attraction behind pooh's treehouse, unfortunately i didn't stick around to hear more for i was being rushed by my family to proceed to the next ride. Does anybody know anything about this or is it just a rumor?:veryconfu

There's a HUUUUUUGE empty plot in the area because it's where the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea used to be. The Tree and landscaping hide that fact. Eventually it will certainly be used for something. It's prime real estate. But anything specific? Or any timeframe? Who knows.

Here's an image to show the size of the space:

I know there was a better one that someone posted from google earth but I can't quickly find it. If you do any of the satellite views of MK though through google or msn for example, you'll see it as well.

edit Huzzah! Here you go: http://local.live.com/default.aspx?...t=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=5219454&encType=1

Big empty area there? It's all where 20k and the showbuilding and such was. Stretches all the way to Toontown as you can see.

well, according to the many things i have picked up over the years the magic kingdom is disneys lowest priority.

it constantly gets the number 1 attendance out of every theme/amusement park in the world and has no signs of slowing down. so, my guess is that that area will recieve the "e ticket" treatment in like 3 or 4 years. No earlier.

I expect to see alot more stuff going on in Epcot, MGM, Animal kingdom, and even downtown disney before I see more stuff at Magic Kingdom. Epcot and Animal Kingdom still have a lot of real estate in their parks that havent been used completely.

MGM just needs updates, and bad. And Downtown Disney...well...they just need a new parking lot now. :animwink:

Fact is MK could probably get just as much milage out of finally revamping Space Mountain than they could from a new E-ticket on the 20K plot (for a heckuva lot less cost).

I agree that MGM and Animal Kingdom could use some new attractions. I love EE at Animal Kingdom, but the park is still in need of a few more things. And MGM, well if not for ToT and RRC and a couple of more things, there would not be a lot for the kids there. We love all of the parks and wouldn't skip one for nothing, I'm just saying that I would like to see something new at them. :)

Isn't there going to be, or already is, a new underwater ride in DL that guest board a submarine, they look out the portholes and it tells the story of Nemo as the submarine moves around a lagoon? If there is, maybe they can do that where 20,000 Leagues used to be.

I really want to see MGM and AK get some new rides, shows and animal exhibits.

As for the MK, Disney World just needs to spend the money to fix the place up. Their rides are so run down in many cases (Mansion, Space, etc). But yes, there is a HUGE amount of Space behind the awful Pooh's Playground. Plenty of room for 2 or 3 e-ticket rides actually. Lets hope one day we'll see a new ride. Personally, I want to see the Little Mermaid dark ride that Tony Baxter created for DL Paris to be built here.

How much land is there between Pooh's and the train tracks? The area itself is a decent place for kids to blow off some steam (although it may not be the best use of some valuable real estate).

Funny. Sarcasm there I hope.....

Tons.
If you look at the aerial photo MissM linked to, you can see that the train is WAY back behind there. If they chose too, it would be possible to more than double the size of Fantasyland by expanding back to the tracks. Or, even better, build a new land.....

Seems like there's been many rumors over the years about plans for this space. When I did CP, there was talk of putting in some kind of Peter Pan Neverland water attraction. It would be nice if they put something there.

They could easily fit a few E-Tickets back there, but I don't agree that MK is Disney's lowest priority. I would argue the MK has received much more in the past 5 years (and, at present, has more work being done imminently) than MGM. They won't even invest the minimal amount of money it would cost to create a ToT5 (minimal on the scale of all the change MGM could use).

Wishful thinking or an actual idea on the drawing board right now?

Right now?
BEEN stuff on that drawing board for 10 years now. Not moving fast though. Unless lots change, don't look for much at MK between now and 2010 except for refurbs. Mansion, Jungle, maybe Space. Then, possibly, a new e-ticket.

As always, subject to change on a moment's notice.....

The long planned Little Mermaid C/D-ticket would be great there... as would trying some way to expand Toontown.

MGM does need help first though.

When did Space move into the "maybe" category for refurbs?

As for some of the stuff that was planned there, if you look around these forums you can probably find more detail than what I'm listing below. As best as I can remember, when Islands of Adventure was being built, Disney had set up two imagineering teams to create E-Ticket attractions for the 20k leagues area. One teams focus was on a Jules Verne based ride (a la 20k leagues under the sea) the other team was to focus on classic disney stories. Neither team knew that the other existed, and the both produced pretty good ideas.

The Jules Verne team came up with a ride based on the upcoming movie Atlantis. It was to be a morphing coaster that changed from a traditional coaster to a suspended coaster (Dueling Dragons is a suspended coaster), and was supposed to be housed in our around an erupting Volcano. Ultimately the idea was moved to Adventureland, and then scrapped for budget reasons and/or the relative failure of the Atlantis movie

The Classic Disney team came up with the evil side of fantasy land, where the signature attraction would be a flume ride in Bald or Shadow Mountain. The basic story was that all the Disney Villains were holding a meeting and then they discover that guests (us) have disrupted this meeting so they chase us around the mountain.

Interesting, so Lee is confirming Pixarland.

Maybe I worded it wrong.
I was putting the timeframe into question, not whether or not Space would get a rerurb. There is an outside chance that the Space refurb would get pushed back to after the new e-ticket.
