Is it possible that some who visit WS cannot afford to visit outside their home county? Thereby making WS their one opportunity to be exposed to other cultures. Unfortunately, the Frozen overlay heralds significant progress on making WS into WDWS. And I think Epcot and WDW are the worse for it.

what is all this about small world should move to epcot in these threads, small world is not ever moving from mk. regarding frozen we dont know yet which route they are going to implement it, whether it will have a Norwegian theme/context to it or not. If it doesn't its goodbye epcot hello tooncot, not that thats not happening anyway. Its still an awful place to shove it in for such a large ip with so much potential that could have had and used a big blueprint, instead of Norway and its small courtyard and shoebox show building.

IaSW is a perfect match for World Showcase. Just the fact that it could be modernized and operated at reduced hours would pay for the relocation. I could see where they would close attractions such as IaSW, Fiesta and Frozen so guests could start finding spots for Illuminations. As this is happening the World Showcase pavilions could transition over to their evening offerings. Possibly enhancing the new extra ticketed events with midnight fireworks or something. So as families depart after Illuminations the ticketed evening offerings would get underway.

I do agree that they might need to add space to Norway. Perhaps the m&gs could be across the promenade walkway. IaSW would also help spread out the crowds.

its fun to dream and play with such ideas, but its totally irrevelant as its never going to happen.

It is fun. And never is a long time. Some things just make so much sense that they become inevitable.

Removing the IaSW building from the MK would have unlimited benefits. So I doubt it can be ruled out completely.

And Walt would want IaSW in World Showcase. IMO.

IMO Walt would have put IASW in the Magic Kingdom or as the entrance to the World Showcase if he had ever imagined for a second that EPCOT would be watered down into a copy of a World's Fair…it is pointless thinking what Walt would have done, because Walt most likely would have never built EPCOT…not this version anyway.
I wold hope that if the characters from Frozen are added to Maelstrom they find a way to lengthen the experience and seriously make it have some tie in to Norway itself. maybe the theater could be the pre-show before boarding the boat…then you would be sure that no one skipped the movie! lol
Remember the big attraction at the proposed Russia pavilion would have been a sleigh ride through Russian fairy tales…so this is honestly not that far fetched… I wonder if the pavilion had opened with a Frozen theme to start before the movie came out if anyone would even question it…

They can deny it all they want (of course they'd deny it ... typical of just about anything), but it seems to me that once again they're getting cold feet and not wanting to pull the plug and actually go through with something. But we'll see what happens. I don't really consider that "official" either way.

I have noticed that the word "official" has kind of lost its meaning in the internet age. Now it just means you can post a link to it somewhere.

This part gets me: "Speigel anticipates that Disney will move ahead with the "Frozen" renovation of Maelstrom. He expects that to be an interim step to a bigger "Frozen" attraction."

So he's saying Disney is going to spend the money to overlay Maelstrom just as a holdover until they have a full attraction designed and ready to go? That makes sense...

You're playing that card? Really?

Epcot today is a complete departure from what Walt wanted it to be so that's a pretty baseless, and somewhat desperate, assumption to make.

I have read a fair amount about Walt Disney. Not as much as some people here, I'm sure. But a fair amount.

One of the things that I have read about him consistently is that nobody could ever predict what Walt would want. You did your best and hoped like hell Walt liked it.

I figure if people who worked with Walt Disney didn't know what he would want, those of us who never knew the man shouldn't speculate about "what Walt would want". Anyone who pretends to know what Walt Disney would have wanted hasn't read very much about Walt Disney.

Is @jt04 really Dennis Speigel? He has been spouting this same nonsense for a few days/weeks now... LOL

Why do a placeholder? Just do it right the first time!!!!

Or do something cheap, say it's just a placeholder and then don't do the other thing you said you were going to do. It's the Disney way.

Remember when Captain Eo was just a temporary tribute to Michael Jackson? Four years ago!

Agreed. A placeholder just seems like a waste of money IMO. Besides, even if the intention was to put money into something as a "placeholder," what's the likelihood of them coming back after the fact and saying, "hmm... this is working better than we hoped. Let's just leave this here and nix the more costly project we were going to build."

Haha @lebeau. I was thinking the same thing about Michael Jackson and CE.
