EPCOT was not intended to be like MK. Its a different type of theme park. It was educational. You left ECPOT knowing more about the sea, the land, and world culture than when you walked in. Its slowly loosing that aspect. The cartooning is a slippery slope. Even the new Test Track is far less educational than it was before. The queue and pre show video had LOADS of information. While the ride is still enjoyable and has some educational value, they went with flashy lights and laser beams over educating you how a testing facility for cars looks and feels.

Im all for Frozen having an attraction, just not at the expense of Norway loosing some its charm and beauty so it can be shoehorned in as fast as possible. And thats not me trying to say Maelstrom is the best ride, but as a child I would always have questions for my parents after we got off, or my nephews now ask me about the trolls or why Odin only has one eye flashing. It creates conversation and you can teach each other something. Sure, a Frozen attraction will create conversation, but not on the same level and definitely not about anything related to Norway or their culture.

Not a surprising response, but you seem to love Disney more when they aspire to mediocrity over "doing the impossible."
Just to be clear, are you simply making a baseless personal attack or are you actually taking the position that we should all be upset because the company hasn't initiated a repair plan that you state is impossible?

(This post is mostly for wdisney9000's enjoyment.)

Unfortunately the toonification of EPCOT seems to have begun...so moving forward I would like to see them use the characters at least in a meaningful way...If Anna and Elsa can teach about the culture of Norway...as opposed to just a retelling of the Frozen movie, it could possibly be a good thing... If Princess Dining means Anna and Elsa (from Norway) having a coronation feast...it's better than random princesses...and actually brings a little Norwegian culture back. Let's face it, Maelstrom is not a great ride..it is practically over before it has begun, had a great ride system, but is in all way too short. In the ride you learn that you are not the first to pass this way, nor shall you be the last, to know the spirit of Norway you must first look to the Sea...Norwegian folklore included mysterious forests filled with trolls, they have polar bears and oil rigs... end. Maybe it is possible to tell a richer story...maybe kids will learn more about Norway though the introduction of characters from the region... I am not sure, but I don't think it will be the ruination of the Norway Pavilion...

Won't the ride be just as short? Maybe the characters will talk faster to advance the story;)

I'm not sure if the Frozen fans will be happy if the ride is still Maelstrom just narrated by Olaf or Anna and Elsa. I'm guessing fans will expect some version of the story from the movie and some of the music. It's possible they will skip the story and just have the characters talk about Norway, but I'm not too confident that is the direction it will go. We shall see.

I totally agree. If Anna and Elsa are used in an educational aspect it's a win-win. If it's just a retelling of the movie, they will have succeeded in diminishing the soul of WS no matter how cool the ride is.

I agree if thats the direction they go I would be alright with it as much as I still feel frozen deserves bigger and better in an area that can handle its crowd issues. But I still fear a cheapened version watered down retelling of frozen with no to little Norway connection, and with a stupid "wheres olaf" storyline. I just dont trust these overlays that come out of local Imagineering/Celebration.

Maybe not, if they switch the load to unload making the load/unload in the same area. This would allow for new scenes where the load use to be, so the rumors suggest. But Im not confident we will get something as involved as that.

I don't think they belong in the ride at all whether they're used educationally or not. Anything Frozen beyond the exhibit in the church and possibly being added to the princess meal does NOT belong in the pavilion IMO.

I was pondering this today and I have evolved on WS. In today's very mobile world WS has lost the original reason it was built. Most people can easily afford going to the places represented. There are far fewer checkpoints for instance in Europe making travel as easy as in the states. Globalization has happened since 1982.

So to give WS attractions more of an appeal to younger guest's makes sense now. And I support adding attractions like Frozen and next-gen character M&Gs. Great way to educate the young about other cultures which should be more emphasized IMO. I am quite serious. No trolling here.

And the cool thing is WS can be transformed in the evenings to appeal to adults in a similar way I think Disney Springs will. Everyone wins. Plus we would get a more balanced guest distribution between the parks.

PS- Sorry Epcot Explorer ;)

American Adventure is great the way it is. However it does not really provide "edutainment" for anyone over college age but is easily inspiring for those of school age. Now they just need to relocate IaSW to the plot next door to make the pavilion completely family friendly. IaSW could close every evening around 7 PM.

I think this new way of understanding WS has merit.

Me either. I think it would add to it. WS needs more content like this. Including IaSW.

Is the frozen overlay actually confirmed by anyone?

edit: I should've used search. I can't believe this is real.

what is all this about small world should move to epcot in these threads, small world is not ever moving from mk. regarding frozen we dont know yet which route they are going to implement it, whether it will have a Norwegian theme/context to it or not. If it doesn't its goodbye epcot hello tooncot, not that thats not happening anyway. Its still an awful place to shove it in for such a large ip with so much potential that could have had and used a big blueprint, instead of Norway and its small courtyard and shoebox show building.
