Frozen on Broadway, what?

Aladdin took over forMary Poppins Newsies is the 3 rd show.
AHhh - that's the third - I thought poppins had closed but couldn't think of the third - thanks

Haven't seen Newsies yet but heard it's phenomenal - Probably around to stay for a while!

I was really surprised that they made Aladdin into a Broadway play. A couple of years ago I had seen the movie for the first time since I was a kid. The first thing My husband & I said was "Wow, they couldn't make this film in that context these days" It was no "song of the South" but they were quite a few lines that could easily be view has "politically incorrect/insensitive"

Before I get all the comments, I was in no way offended by anything in the movie (I have a thick hide and am not easily offended), but a eyebrow was raised here and there. I'm sure if that movie was released by today's standard there would be a mild uproar in regards to perceived political incorrectness.

Saw Newsies last year and it's now one of my all time favorite musicals. Not a "deep" story by any means, but amazing dancing and fantastic songs. A must-see in my opinion.

We saw Newsies as well and the dancing is Amazing! The show is a lot of fun, very energetic. I found the love story and female lead to be useless to the story. I don't know why they think everything has to have a love story component.

Agreed. It felt so forced. The show would have been much stronger without it. (But it would have also been even shorter without it, especially considering all the reprises in the show.) But I digress.

My main concern if/when "Frozen" moves to the stage is that they will decide to include more love songs, and potentially involve Elsa in some sort of love story. I know they'd add an Anna/Kristoff song, which is just about all they do I hope.

On another note, I honestly hope that this doesn't go all the way up to Broadway. I think it'd make a fantastic in-park show. They could replace Aladdin at DCA and BATB at DHS. (I think it would work best in New Fantastyland complete with a Anna/Elsa M&G inside of a ice palace, but I'll take what I can get.)

Ugh! - Just what we need: another Princess M&G; this time in a palace. Of course, to build the palace, they'll need to replace something (a la Snow White). Let's see, princesses belong in Fantasyland, so what goes? definitely not any of the new stuff...are we replacing Peter Pan? Small World? Pooh?

Sorry, I'm still bitter over the loss of a dark ride for a M&G (if you can't tell)...

Theres no rule that says that the princesses belong in FL. Tiana is in Liberty Square. We saw Snow White on main street. If they wanted the Frozen sisters in the MK, they would have already incorporated them into the existing princess M&G in FL.

I still haven't gotten to see it, but I didn't think it was nearly as popular as they were saying.

Is this a film that could work like Beauty and the Beast, or are we headed for another 'here one minute gone the next' show?

Isn't this very much like Wicked?

Anyone have any thoughts or know anything more about this?

Good decision on the part of Disney. They hit a home run here for sure. It goes to show that sometimes patience is a virtue with a script.

To clarify, I was stating that I had not seen the film yet, and had only heard neutral or negative things about it. I was just wondering if it would work on Broadway, and I'm seeing the film tomorrow, so then I can understand why it would or wouldn't work.

Huh. I wondering what corners of the internet you've been hanging out in. The overwhelming majority of folks I've talked to online have had very high opinions of it, and I share those opinions.

See, I'd avoided all the internet chatter because I hadn't seen the film and wanted no spoilers.

I saw it on Thursday, and while it was good, it's definitely not my favorite. I saw things I liked, things I didn't like, and some things I was "meh" about. Overall it was a good film, and I can very clearly see the Broadway potential.

The songs are very Broadway, like how "Let it Go" was like "Defying Gravity" or how the ice harvester's song sounded a lot like the "Work Song (Look Down" from Les Miserables. It's clear where the songwriters got their influences and I think if staged well it would do great on Broadway.

With all the voice talent being Broadway veterans and the Lopez's being Broadway-tested composers, does anyone beside my wife and I think that maybe this was the thinking in some areas all along. The Lopez's wrote enough songs for a full musical and trimmed down to a movie's worth. Might the cast contracts have some kind of Broadway provision? Kristoff didn't have a solo and he is certainly a high level broadway talent, perhaps that was part of the deal - he gets to open it on Broadway and have a solo or duet with Anna with a new song (helloooo Tony award).

In terms of popularity, we saw it for the second time this morning, 9 weeks from its release, and the theater was sold out. That's amazing for any movie anywhere, any time.
