Trip Report Frozen No More: a live birthday TR *Completed*

What: A mother/daughter long weekend to celebrate a Valentine birthday
Who: Myself (Tuvalu) and Emily (@TrolleyFollower91)
Where: POP! (70s building, yeah!)
When: Feb. 13-17, 2014
Why: I have never posted a trip report but was inspired by @coachwnh and @disneysince71 to go live!

Until about six hours ago, when our plane actually departed, I wasn't sure this trip was actually gonna happen. We live in Atlanta, a place that is not equipped to handle winter storms. You may have seen photos from "Snowjam/Snowmaggedon" (as the locals called it) from a couple weeks ago, where thousands of commuters were trapped in their vehicles from 8-12 hours and schoolchildren had to spend the night in their schools since the buses were unable to transport them home. Emily's usual 15 minute ride home from the elementary school where she student teaches took her over 3 hours, including having to abandon her car and walk the remaining two miles home.

After that storm blew over (so to speak!) I remarked to Emily how fortunate we were that the storm didn't happen the day we were scheduled to fly to Orlando. She replied, "Don't worry, that won't happen again."

Until this week.

Monday the forecasters began predicting a "catastrophic" snow and ice storm (I hear all you northerners laughing!) The governor of GA declared a state of emergency through the weekend. Schools and businesses
were closed beginning Tuesday. We began to see our long-awaited trip drift away...

Our Wednesday flight was cancelled at lunchtime on Tuesday. Sleet and freezing rain began that night and everything was frozen Wednesday morning.

Wednesday was a mix of sleet and snow. I was able to rebook our flight for late Thursday afternoon, doubtful we'd get to leave. And this is what we woke up to this morning:

Great trip report! Thanks for the updates. Can't wait until our trip next month, and your posts are making it seem more real now! Just a quick question: where did you get the Starbucks?! Hope you've had a mousetacular birthday trip!

Thanks for reading! Starbucks is in the Main Street Bakery at MK and Fountain View at Epcot.

You've always been able to park hop from any park. You just couldn't take a bus from the park to DTD or vice versa.
All these years I've been going and had no idea you could take a bus between parks. We mostly drive, so that may be why I didn't notice that. Someone said that to park hop from MK, you have to go from the TTC, so that's another reason I didn't know. I may do a little more bus riding in May since we can go park to park by bus when we hop.

You used to have to go to the TTC but that just changed recently. We'll confirm tomorrow when we hop from MK to DHS.

I never fully appreciated all the time and effort @coachwnh and others put in to live trip reports until I decided to do one! From the issues of bad connections in the parks, to remembering how to post photos (I am a newbie at this) and the fact that I am a type-A who wants my report to be perfect...the stress of real-time reporting is getting to me

I had intended to finish today with more commentary and pics but I am beat. So tired that we didn't even stay at MK to see Wishes, which is my favorite thing to watch! I promise that I will fill in the gaps. Today was another great day and we are looking forward to DHS tomorrow before flying home.

Until then...thanks for following along!

Dropped off the luggage at 6:45 am, grabbed a quick breakfast in the food court and caught the MK bus and arrived in time to watch the Welcome show. Yes we are going to DHS, but MK opens an hour earlier. We love MK first thing in the morning! We would start every day of the year in the MK if we could, LOL.

We were hoping for the Mayor this morning, but it's Scoop again. We WILL have a Disney day!

In line for our last attraction of this vacation: Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Have experienced Rock N Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror, Great Movie Ride and Toy Story Mania.

It is another gorgeous day, our warmest yet mid 70s.
I've never seen the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show but just put it in my touringplan at lunch.

So sorry to see your TR end. Sounds like you've had a great birthday vacation. Safe travels.
