Free Wireless Internet

I'm afraid I already know the anwser to this one...but:
Is there anywhere on property to get free wireless internet? I'm going to have my laptop with me, and was just wondering if I should bring the wireless card.

I don't see paying ten bucks for internet, so I'm strictly looking for free internet on property.

Thank you!

Nope, there isn't. Stinks huh? I feel this is the one biggest thing missing from the Disney resorts. Even cheap hotels have free wireless internet.

Wow I am glad you posted this, because I too was planning on bringing my laptop to check in on work/ email pictures home. I just assumed that they had internet access, seeing as every other hotel does. I am actually a little suprised. But then again, it would be a major pain running eathernet to the rooms in some of the older resorts.

What I don't understand is why they don't add it during rehabs or it isn't in the newer hotels like Pop. Free or not, I'd rather have the high speed line as opposed to dial up which is a pain, but I do it for work.

I always go online from Disney, I just use dial up.

What about in the DVC resorts? I know they say it is wireless or something like that (maybe high-speed?? can't remember) does that cost money also? We are DVC members, but haven't been to the DVC resort yet so that is a question I have been having lately...

I am not an expert on the subject but most of the hotels I have stayed at actually used a cable modem in the rooms for high speed internet. Since the cable is already in the rooms I don't think it would be that hard to set it up.

I don't understand why it would be a pain to do wireless internet. Wouldn't they just need to place the hub things in various places? Like I have wireless internet at my house and I can go across the whole house and even sit outside and still be online. So if they installed a hub (or whatever its called) in the hallway it would give a whole bunch of rooms an internet connection, right?

The least they could do is put wireless internet in places like the food courts and lobbies.

I agree. Last time we were at WDW, my DH had to go over to Boardwalk and pay $5 for an hour of 'net time. All he wanted to do was check his work e-mail. The card they sold him works for an hour from the time he purchased it so he couldn't even use it the next day.

We would use dial-up but I don't think we even have the modems any more.

an idea why they DON'T have access...

I've been reading over the responses so far then thought of something...It might sound silly, but maybe Disney doesn't want you to think of the outside while you are there. I mean you are at WDW, why should you check in on work? I dunno...just an idea.... :)

That's what I think too. You've seen Hook, where Moira throws the cell phone out the window? That was almost me, except I was afraid I'd hurt someone with the laptop.

I was out at Disneyland in early April in a Concierge room at the Paradise Pier hotel, used high speed through a network cable, and was not charged anything extra.

It's sad, but I get so many emails at work everyday that if I don't log on at least once or twice during a vacation, my mailbox will get too full and I'll stop receiving my emails.

There is free internet upstairs at DisneyQuest also, near the Cheesecake Factory stand. All the table around the balcony up there have terminals and you can surf the web for free.

That's a good point! But at the same time, sometimes there's situations where people HAVE to work for a day on their vacation. I also like to get online while I'm at Disney to share the day's photos with my mom and everyone back home.
