Free WiFi

The Sealbach and the Hyatt near here in Louisville, KY has free Wifi.

Since 2007 we've been to Indianapolis, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis again and no one in our group has had free WiFi at their hotels (we are usually spread around at 5 or 6 different hotels in the city).

Most campgrounds I go to even have free wifi!
And idk what I was more shocked about? NO gum sold on Disney property or NO free wifi?!

They probably WOULD sell gum if people knew how to dispose of it properly.

Alas, most people think that means the sidewalk or some random wall/table.

I've never stayed overnight in any of those cities except Indy. In Indy:
Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Downtown
Omni Hotel Indianapolis
Indianapolis Marriott Downtown
(actually, ALL Mariots have free wifi in Indy)

The was exactly the point I was saying. I don't think Disney cares if you are in your room or not if you are paying for the room and tickets already.

Sure they do. If you're hanging out in your room, that means
-you're not in a lounge buying their drinks at an insane markup
-you're not in the resort's souvenir shop
-you're not in the arcade
-you're not in the spa
-you're not taking a trip to downtown Disney
-you're not renting a bike or boat
-you're not using the free pool or the free gym, working up an appetite that will need to be sated, or perhaps walking past a shop where an impulse buy may consume you.

If you're not outside the room, it's that much harder to get them to convince you to spend more money.

Shot in the dark. Business owners?

I'm a business owner and keep in touch with my clients via my Android phone. If I need to use a laptop, my phone can act as a wifi hotspot. This way I don't need to depend on hotels to have wifi as I always have it wherever I go.

Who in their right mind would spend their entire trip in the room? Disney will still get that money. But the free Wifi would be a nice perk.

I totally agree with you. With cell service getting faster and faster the need to piggy back off someones free WiFi is going to be a thing of the past. However there are those few hard headed business owners who are the last to get new technology.

It might go away soon, but I downloaded a pay-one-time app that allows my droid to tether to my laptop without paying for the cell phone company's tethering fees (using it now, in fact). It's not the fastest speed - better than dial-up, not as good as dsl - and it doesn't work very well watching video on the train (no youtube, let alone netflix or hulu), though it may work better were I not in motion. Either way, for surfing, messaging, it works fine.

No Free WIFI

The more I think about it, the more I realize that while I know I've said it was annoying, I'm rather glad that I can't log on,and do what ever... I'm on vacation and I really want to be able to forget the stressors and nonsense for a week. kind of gives me a break from reality. :lol:

I always love it when people tell me how I'm supposed to spend my vacation! Both my wife and I out of necessity have to check in to work several times while we're on vacation. Because of our positions, and the salary they pay us it's kind of expected. Therefore, it really gripes me that Disney can't provide WiFi at the hotels/pool areas, etc. I wouldn't even mind paying for it. Hell, we have to pay for wired internet in the room already. Last trip at the Old Key West there was only about 5 feet of cable, and it was near the couch. We both had to take turns running the cable and power over the end table to work. The last time we were at OKW the wire was in a different place and we could use the table.
I've paid for my room and park tickets, and the POS wired internet already. I've had my time being a park commando. Now we like to relax by the pool and let the kids play commando. I go to the parks to ride what I want, then do something else. So give me my freakin WiFi so I don't have to play contortionist in the room.!

2 things, forget the quality of hotels or resorts go to mc Donalds or have a donut at a local shop and you get free wi-fi . Disney is missing the boat on this the future for disney tech is booking all of your trip information on a computer ride times, dinning ect. if you want to make a change or check for a dinning rsvp. if the resorts had wi fi this could be done from your room or around the pool. Disney would make money on advertising on their system and would free up people from anserwing phones.
PS most cities have free wi-fi in public areas. Disney should get with the program
