Do the WDW resorts still give out the free trading pins?
I think we received 5 (1 per person) on our trip last year, but you could trade them for other pins just like the ones you buy.

I don't believe the resorts themselves give them out. If I'm not mistaken the pins were given when you purchased a package through Disney's Travel Company.

we got a disney magical express pin? there was a voucher in our pack to get the pin. it was a disney coach!

I got the Magical Express pins as well in a voucher I got from an AP booklet.

While passing through the bag-check area at AK a few weeks ago, a CM was admiring our pin lanyards and reached into a bag and gave us each 4 pins that aren't for sale in the parks. She told us these were for special guests and told us not to trade them but keep them. Made us feel special.

yeah hey post a photo of them i want to see them.

I don't have a photo yet but I guess it's called the Pixie Dust pin. It's attached to a card and on the back it says "Just wanted to spread the magic by giving you this exclusive Pixie Dust pin. After all, this is the place Where dreams come true."

It's Tinkerbell speading pixie dust on a cloud and it says "Where dreams come true."

Don't know if it was a special pin or not but the way the CM described it to us it is. Anywho, they were free.

If they were from vouchers you received, it was probably - as someone said - part of a package that you bought.

As part of the MYW package last summer (and possibly longer ), you received one voucher good for the ME pins per reservation. The voucher came in your packet with your itinerary that you received a couple of weeks before the trip. When you turned in the voucher (I did it at the ASMovies gift shop), you got a card with 2 ME Bus pins on it - in theory, one to trade and one to keep. I gave my daughter both pins, and my parents also gave her theirs, and she traded all of them at the parks because they really weren't very nice. It was a great way to get her started pin trading without having to buy tons of pins.

Oh, we got those too. Did you share the one on the bottom? Sharing those two pins (DH and I both received a set for spreading "Disney Magic") was one of the highlights to our trip. We loved being able to make strangers smile like that!

Sort of a side topic, but are there other good ways to get collections started? I've seen some relatively cheap auctions for pin lots on eBay, and was thinking of buying a lot, then trading those pins with CMs or other guests for pins I actually want. Is that a good method, or is it frowned upon (i.e. are they 'less valuable' pins than those other people will have)?
