Free tickets from CMs

Another thing to keep in mind is that with the Maingate passes park-hopping can only be done with the CM present. The days of the CM getting their family in and then leaving them on their own are gone.

Thanks for all the info guys, although the snarky comments weren't really necessary. Like I said, I was just checking on here first to see how it works and what the protocol is, and it sounds like it isn't something worth pursuing. Better me asking on here first and finding out all the facts, rather than going straight to the person and being "tacky" or putting her in an ackward position, so I'm not sure why the rude comments from some.

Actually, once the passholder admits their guests, the guest passes will work on their own for reentry or hopping for the day. At least that's according to the FAQ on the Hub. Haven't tried it myself.

Maybe, but then if you're not with them at the end of the day you have to track them down and get those plastic cards back. It's just another hassle on the poor CMs. :(

When I worked at one of the Florida parks it was always very nice to get a phone call from someone I hadn't heard from in a while. I'd be excited to talk to them and then get the, "well, the reason I called is..." line.

Certain phone calls went unanswered after that....
I had an experience like that once. Only it was more hinting than coming right out and asking. You feel kind of stupid, having been happy to hear from the person, only to find out that they just wanted something from you. I said I'd do some checking and let her know, then just dodged the calls. Didn't know how to handle it.

Since moving to Orlando, I've become very quick with a "You have to let me know when you'll be here so we can see if maybe we can meet up for lunch!" It distinguishes between users and old friends very quickly. There are a lot of people who would be happy to see you if they could use your house as their hotel, but who don't want to have lunch.

I've only ever had three instances of a CM getting me into parks, and all were actually at their offering. (Though all of them were before the new rules with the RFID cards)

The two times in WDW it was the same CM friend. One time another friend and I were in WDW for a full week. Our departure day wasn't going to be a park day since we had to leave for the airport early-afternoon. As it was pre-Magic Your Way the extra day was cost-prohibitive. Our CM friend wanted to hang out in the MK with us, and offered to Main Gate us.
The other time, I was in Orlando for a wedding and only planned on a day at Universal because I'd won one of those Super Bowl promotion passes they gave away 4-5 years back. My CM friend gave me one of the bonus 1-day tickets she got, which allowed me to use it without her being there.

And out in Anaheim, a longtime online friend (whom I'd met in-person only once) offered to get me into the parks while I was in L.A. for another wedding. That was nice because it was a park-hopper ticket and allowed me to visit the still-not-redone DCA for a few hours, and hop to Disneyland. I then came back on another day and bought my own 1-day ticket into Disneyland to spend some more time in that park.

Just so you know... I don't think any of the snarky, rude comments that you mentioned were directed at you. All the ones I read, and posted were directed at those that make it a habit of doing whatever, regardless of how it affects others, to get a free trip in. You heard about it, and asked if it would be reasonable to do, most all have said no, it isn't and any comments then were directed at those that do, not you. It is different if someone you knows offers to let you go in, but not by your request to them. :)
