Is the whole free maps thing still an option with the new site? I was looking the other night and couldn't find anything on it. Anyone know anything about it?

Really don't see the point in the customizable maps  Why would you alter them to only show specific attractions when you can go to the parks and pick up a hand full of free maps with everything on anyway?

I just took a survey this morning about the new website and this was one of the things it asked about. It said something like "did you come to the site for custom maps and did you have trouble finding them?"

Very interesting!

They're much larger than the maps you get in the parks. They are also on paper of much higher quality and the overall presentation is much more artistic and presentable, not like a brochure but more like something you could frame (but unfortunately they come folded). Those who don't see there value over the in-park map and guide probably haven't seen one of these maps in person or don't have interest in such things as souvenirs or collectibles.

I didn't find it to be much of a hassel at all. And it was such a neat little suprise when they came in the mail a few weeks later because I completely forgot about them. I think if you have children, it would be even more special because you could explain to them that Mickey sent them maps for their upcoming trips and they even have the family name on them!

A hassle?
It took me about 5 minutes to order my set of four maps.
Yeah but I personally just don't get the point of it. Maps are readily available at the parks. As another person mentioned they are bigger, printed on better paper and look nicer. Again, what is the point? If you take them to the parks they will just get ripped, wet and scrunched up and carrying large maps around will make you look slightly odd.

Nice keepsake when you get home but they aren't practical for use other than decoration at home or a surprise for your kids.

This is just my thought anyway.

I just ordered ours from the new my magic mobile app. Have to wait six weeks to get them and really looking forward to seeing them. A great keepsake. May even frame them and hang them up in my master suite disney room.

It's too bad the artwork they use for the maps stinks. The older more stylized versions are somehow cooler to me. The current maps push more for realism I guess but contain some bizarre gaffes, especially in Magic Kingdom. I think my main problem is that the major attractions typically look awful on the maps. Splash Mountain has no briar patch, the Haunted Mansion exterior is mangled, Thunder Mountain looks crappy, the Jungle Cruise has no animals or scenery and a couple boats that, to me, do not look like Jungle Cruise boats, the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse looks inaccurate, and even the castle looks kinda dinky.

The older versions are cooler because they highlight the attractions. There's less push for realism and more nailing the feel of the parks.
