Free dining is back!

I don't work for them and I understand it. It's the same as the slogans and other jargon the casinos use to make people think they're coming out ahead. Heck, I once saw a woman sit at a bank of progressive in house slots machines for about 18 hours just to win a $3387 jackpot. Never mind the fact that she spent about 5200 to win it......

Point being that for our family it's still cheaper than the room discount and paying out of pocket.

Exactly. While the topic does get a bit tedious, and perhaps redundant, everytime free dining comes around - I do think it is important to be discussed. Not everyone on here is aware or thinks about it. They haven't heard the argument - and may think twice - or even go for it, if it happens to work for their family. But I think the discussion at least makes people aware to do the math for their family and situation. Not everyone comes on here multiple times a week like some of us...

If they want to put an end to discounts, they need to totally re-design their price structure for tickets, dining/dining plan, and hotels. Until that happens, they're going to be forced to continue the discounts. You could actually look at it as the fanboy saying, "We're not paying full price because you don't deserve it."

I'm not going till next year, but I just want to make sure that I understand this incase there is a free meal offer around the times I go. So, if you were to check in on Oct 4th and staying for five days, would you get the free dining for the whole time even tho it ends on Oct 4th?

It will depend on the offer, (Disney can change the rules whenever they like) but if the rules stay the same, as long as you check in on a date included in the free dining promotion you will be good for your entire stay. Disney will typically put a cap on the number of days (10-14 is common) ,but it is not an issue for most.

I saw the offer Friday and jumped on it. I just booked Nov. 24-Dec 2 and there were still a lot of great reservation times and locations available. With the holidays I thought it might be a bit more difficult 134 or so days out.

You are correct that it's just your arrival date that matters. You could arrive on the last day of the promotion and you still get it. However... this fall a six night stay is required. I think it was formerly five nights.

The minimum stay for the current offer is only 3 nights with a 2 day ticket. The 6 day shown on Disney's site is only an example, albeit a rather confusing one as it does imply that it is a minimum stay example.

What I DO want to do is eat on property multiple times a year. I pour blood sweat and tears into the company and I can't even get 20% off my meal anymore while people around me eat for free. If we never had it, fine, but they have chopped away at it every year more and more. That's my issue.

I hear you loud and clear. Can't even use our Holiday Coupons in August. Not to mention all the restrictions they added this year like dinner after 8:30 only and lunch only, etc.

That's what I thought. I just hope there is not some huge convention or something. If there is, oh well, it is still a trip to Disney, after all.

Another question, I was just looking at the current offer on DisneyWorld.com and it said something about a family of four. Is the free dining only available for bookings of four guests? Or is that just an example?

No official reason will be given but the safe assumption is that booking rates at the resorts are meeting or exceeding expectations during that time frame.
i think the 4th leads or is a holiday weekend were kids get a day off, i think its columbus day so many people do a fri sat sun mon tue back to school wed thing, or take the whole week looking for free dining which isnt going to happen this year apparently

SO, if I participate in the FREE dining plan promotion, and am staying at a value resort, and want to upgrade....how much is that upgrade going to cost?

Also....is it me or did they start the free dining early. I didn't think it started until August??

We were originally checking in on 12/1 and missed the dining by 2 days - we moved out trip back to 11/29, got the dining and $258 back in our pockets. I'm sorry for those who do not like this promotion, but it allows some of us to breathe easier when going to Disney.

It must be popular this year. I just looked into getting it and for the dates I wanted (11/29 - 12/2), the only rooms eligible at the Poly or CR were concierge level. We could get the Grand Floridian, but not really our thing. Plus, the premium you pay for the Grand Floridian for not really much additional value isn't worth it to us (to each their own).
