Two days before Hurricane Frances hit the Metro West area of Orlando, gas pumps were already empty.

Christina Marcet took this photo from her bedroom window in the Eola Heights area, before the storm came. In anticipation of seeing nothing but grey skies for several days, she wanted to capture the ominous sunset.

After several leaks all night and morning long, the ceiling of Dennis Cimmino's master bedroom collapsed in south Orlando, near Landstar Blvd. The roof was tarped following Hurricane Charley, but Frances ripped most of that off, as well as more shingles.

Look at them! Why do news stations insist on sending reporters out in storms like this anyway? It isn't like we don't know it's horrible outside. They just look silly. :brick:

I agree, and if that isn't stupid enough for the locals, stations in the northeast (possibly other places) have to send other weather idiots to visit. I would be more than happy enough to share your feed...what's the point? :brick:

Wow...I can't believe the damage! The picture of mommy squirrel was cute though. I remember the morning after Charley hit, the animals were freaking out. The birds made noises that I never knew birds made! Thanks to everybody who posted pictures!

Please send all others (stroms and Hurricans to the Atantic because we don't want them in Texas either. We haven't had a strong strom come threw here in a long long time so I don't want any now either.

Hurricane Damage

Holy @#$%

We see pictures on TV here in Albany NY, but the pictures posted here make it all the more real, and gives us a sense of just how hard so many in Florida have it!

I hope that Ivan decides to go ANYWHERE else!

Good luck and godspeed to anyone with damage.

There is a lighter side to it, unlike the Northeast's big storms, at least it's not cold, and you don't have to shovel it!

If you're bored and without power, grab a ford explorer and a wakeboard line, and find a filled up ditch and go for it. I actually got this picture published in the Tampa Tribune when a reporter walked by and did a story on my "ingenious" friends.

The evacuation is not only limited to people. This mama squirrel moved her babies out of Amy Sangermano's gutter right before the storm hit on Saturday.

Oddly enough, after I walked the dogs in the rain after coming home tonight, I went to toss my wet scrubs down the stairs toward the laundry pile. I saw that one of our cats was lounging there. I told her that I was going to toss the clothes and not to bother moving on my account. She didn't of course, but when I looked down the stairs to check my aim, I saw this little brown lump on the stairs. With 4 cats and 3 Chihuahuas, I never know what I am going to find. Anyway, it was a baby squirrel. She was very cold and wet. She was moving a little, but needed care ASAP. Her eyes were still shut, she had only a thin layer of fur, and her ears were still tucked in close to her head. Luckily, I was able to get her warmed up and after a little internet education, I found out that she was about 2-3 weeks old. She perked up a bit, especially next to the pickle jar full of warm water. So, after making a few phone calls, I found a squirrel rescuer close to home to take her in. Pickles, that's our name for her, has 3 new friends roughly the same age that came from a nest destroyed when the tree they were living in came crashing down on a nearby home last night.

Anyway, it's been a day for squirrels for us. Thanks for sharing this picture. Maggie

Wow... thanks for posting those pics! It's amazing how much damage this did, even to a city as far inland as Orlando!

Frances did damage as far inland as Atlanta! I've got my one and only tall tree leaning up against my house now from the remains of Frances last night. Not nearly as bad as florida but there's something like 150,000 people without power in Atlanta now.
