I hear now that there is a chance it could not get approved. I'm sure at least universal will try to lobby the regulators to stop it.

Universal doesn't really want to open up that can of worms....

There will be some pushback, mainly from Congress. But the entity that threw the wrench in the AT&T deal is okay, so far, with this one. Until those jobs don't get created and the purchase results in layoffs, as is typical.

If the US never wanted monopolistic companies, they should have stopped approved mergers decades ago.

Anti-trust regulations don't prohibit all mergers, just certain types. Disney/Fox is a horizontal, which DOJ typically doesn't like.

This still must be reviewed and approved by DOJ and other oversight agencies. At the very least, it will be 12-18 months for the deal to be finalized. Fox won't be showing up in the parks any time soon, if at all. As @MisterPenguin and others have commented, this deal is all about Disney launching its streaming service next year. And a global presence with Sky and Star. Iger said as much during his interview on CNBC Thursday. The parks are secondary - he didn't even mention them.

No. It's about "Content".

Amazing how people get fixated on a "word" and regurgitate it ad nauseam (Streaming...Streaming...Streaming).

Example: Realize Please - Blockbuster Video was not about video....not about VHS, or popcorn, or gummy bears, or M&M's......it was about "distribution of content"..........when a better distribution model became available.....Blockbuster Video went away.....not the content itself........

Disney is making a play on content......"Streaming" is irrelevant.....(At this point..Streaming is the 8mm, 8 Track, Cassette, BetaMax, VHS, DVD, BlueRay..Of this era..)

Edited to say..."Yes...I know...There are about 4 Blockbuster vIdeo stores operating to this day...somewhere in Alaska.....but it's a matter of time"......

History has taught us when a major power spreads themselves across many fronts you eventually get crushed. I fear they will do many things but nothing really well. I hope I'm wrong. It's kind of like a restaurant with a huge menu, lots of items but nothing really special.

If the DOJ knocks this down they will be doing Disney fans a great service. Disney will thank them some day! Question is is the government functioning in any logical manner to act?

This is getting out of hand, companies this big are half the issue with the economy right now, expecially when it comes down to micromanaging. Job security is a thing in the past and company's will give as little as they can to their employees, at least the big corporations that squash small high paying busy eases. At least Disney is no competitor in that case unless you work in media. The good news it that bob Iger won't be running for president in 2020, people think Trump is bad, I can think of much worse. Iger scares the crap out of me and he's better off contained within the Disney company.

Agreed. If the Roman Empire is any indication, Disney only has 1,391 years left.

If Disney weren't launching its own pay service next year, it's highly unlikely they'd go after the library of the 3rd largest studio. They have their library on both Netflix and Amazon Prime. They have a 30% stake in Hulu. But they want to be both distributor and content provider. THE streaming service. But who's going to pay for Disney prices for just Disney content? In addition, they get global access with Sky and Star. Streaming drove this deal...
