For those of you are into the geo-social networking apps out there such as Foursquare, this post may be of some interest to you. For those who aren't into Foursquare or don't know what it is, but still love "The Mouse", read on.

Foursquare: What Is it?

Foursquare is an app you can download and install on your mobile device. Foursquare is currently being supported on the iphone, blackberry, android, palm, and Nokia Ovi. It allows you to "check-in" to different venues to let your friends (if they have foursquare and they added you as a friend on foursqure) know where you are. It also shows your friends what the hot spots are by seeing them appear in a "trending now" list that tops the lists of venues in your area. Different venue check-ins allow you to unlock certain badges which is nothing more than to show your friends that you have no life. I use Foursquare and I hear the same thing from my friends that I have no life. :)

My Experience With Foursquare:

Originally, my wife and I used Foursquare for our antiques & collectible business. We would go to different fleamarkets, garage sales, estate sales, etc. and check in at different locations. We had Foursquare linked up with Facebook so that if I was out in the field at a garage sale and my wife was home on Facebook, she could see where I was, and vice versa. But, since we no longer have our business, we use Foursquare just to use it.

I put Foursquare to the test at Disneyworld over the weekend and just as I thought, there were quite a few people at the Magic Kingdom when we went and Foursquare treated it as a hot spot by showing it as "Trending Now" with 20-something other people checked in other than me. This would mean that there were 20 people in the park on Foursquare who checked into the Magic Kingdom.

Saturday night, while at Epcot, there were 47 people checked in there (if there were 50 people checked in, I would've received a "swarm badge" (see foursquare.com for information on badges)). Some of the surrounding parks and hotels were trending, as well.

Backstage Locations Show Up In Foursquare

While I was waiting for my wife and daughter to get pictures taken with the Disney Princesses at Toontown, I saw the MK Cast Utilidors listed in the Foursquare venue list. Then, while walking around in Fantasyland, I saw a "Spare Breakroom" listing. The avatars/icons next to each venue listing is how the entry was added into Foursquare by the person who added it. Now, why the "Spare Breakroom" was given a same gender avatar/icon is a whole other discussion question altogether. Also, I was at the Service Station near the MK Parking Lot and saw a Foursquare venue listing that said "MK AP Bankout Room" What's a "Bankout Room" anyways?

My Thoughts On Foursquare & "The World"

The application is pretty neat if you ask me. I thought I was going to see some backstage locations show up in Foursquare. So, this wasn't a surprise to me. However, it was interesting. While I was using Foursquare in "The World," I made some quick Foursquare friends who just shared a love for "The Mouse."

Happy Foursquaring!

Not old, just vintage.
I've Foursquared my way around WDW and DL. There are definitely tons of people there using it. I found it to be a good way to kill time while I was waiting in line. Also, it was interesting to read some of the tips people had left for certain venues.

I think I may sneak a quick weekend to Disneyworld around the holidays. I live 3.5 hours away from Disney, so I'll see what kind of numbers Foursquare is putting up for the parks around Christmas. I may be able to get a swarm badge or something. If 250 people check in to a venue, I'll get a super swarm badge. ;)

I just dont get it. It is actually annoying to me. There are so many times a day i can see someone checking into a Dunkin Donuts.
