Is it just me or do the fountain drinks in MK taste funny? I personal think it is the water. I mean this may sound wierd but the fountain drinks taste like the water smells in splash mountain and POTC. In all the other parks its fine but does anyone know why this is or am i just crazy. (my wife, mom and my brother noticed this also)

I LOVE the water smell of SM. Everyone I know thinks I'm insane. But it's great - right up there with Burning Rome.

I don't know where you're from, but Florida tap water is usually considered to have a bad taste/smell when compared to water from a lot of other parts of the country. I know that when I go with people from around here, they always either buy water or bring filter bottles to use the tap water to get some of the taste out.

I personally don't know, I either drink soda during the day, or Powerade before/after a run. But I have smelled the water, and I'm sure thats what you're tasting in the fountain drinks.

I always order no ice because when the ice melts, it throws off the balance of the drink. It's not any cheeper, just a request.

I am pretty used to FL water, so that part of it doens't bug me so much.

:ROFLOL:

This cracks me up!

Yes it tastes funny!
I was born and raised in Miami, where the water is from an aquifer/natural source and filtered.

Whever we would go to Orlando, once you pass west palm beach, you would get what we would call "Orlando Water" which is "well water".
It has a really high content of iron, which over the years has gotten better, but still not gone.

Whenver we go anywhere and water tastes like this, to this day (Im 27 with two kids) we still say "This tastes like Orlando Water".!!!!

Ok here it goes......

Spent 4 years as a Cold Drink Account Manager with Coca-Cola and dealt with fountain.
There are 2 kinds of fountain systems...

Post mix(bag in box) which the syrup mixes with the local water supply right before it get dispensed which is more than likely what WDW has since it has a huge profit margin and Disney gets kick backs from Coke on a yearly basis as well.Normally it costs around 2 cents per ounce.Even with filters if the water supply is not all that great you still get a smell or taste.

Pre mix(4.75 gallon tanks) which is essentially a huge can of Coke-this is a ready made product in which the syrup is mixed with super pure water at the production plant and is normally used in areas where the water supply is bad.
These tanks generate HUGE profits for Coke but little for Disney is they used.

Next time you buy a 2.50 (20 oz) bottle of Coke just a thought.....Disney pays about 36 cents per bottle.:D

Yes Disney uses the bag in box, I used to work at Pecos!

The tap water in Orlando is definitely sub-par, but as for the fountain soda, I have never noticed anything.

You're not alone there, it's one of those smells that if I smell it when I'm not at WDW, I immediately think of Splash Mountain, and any other ride with water and that nostalgic smell.

Coke tends not to be too bad or different, but Sprite can be vile. I think it's gotten better though over the years, as I used to drink Sprite frequently but had to only buy it in bottles at WDW. Recently I tried some WDW Sprite and didn't notice a difference.

The smell in POTC and SM is chlorine, I also love the smell, just makes me think of Disney. Yes the water in the Orlando area is quite nasty, and I come from an area that has bad tasting water. Someone said its well water, I think its pumped right out of the swamps. That is what will make your coke taste different, I dont drink soda often and usually from a bottle so I havent really noticed.

haha...I was going to say that I have noticed that WDW Sprite tastes different from Connecticut Sprite...not in a bad way, though. Of course, since I only visit in the summer any more, anything wet is fine to me...we can't be picky when it's 95 outside. I have even been known to drink from some of the drinking fountains in the summer!

I don't think you're crazy - the tap water is just awful down here. I swear you can chew it. It reminds me of a sprinkler system and that awful sulfur smell, just can't drink it. And forget about drinking out of a water fountain - especially if the bathroom is nearby... yikes :lookaroun

I always try to avoid the soda at WDW because of the water. My son and I joke and call it swamp water.
My son can't wait to drink the "swamp water" everytime we arrive on property. I think it's just because he is glad to be there!!
