Fountain and bottled drinks price increase at snack and quick service locations

At the risk of being flayed alive by various posters on this forumm, I have to ask the question; When did people become so brainwashed that they will only drink sodas or water they have to pay for that comes in a plastic bottle with an often fancy name? And why does it have to be ICE cold which puts stress on your body and can give you a headache. Also, whatever happened to bringing your own bottle of water filled with cold tap water or water from a drinking fountain. Or drinking from a fountain. After all, it's not as if you are putting your mouth on and sucking from the nozzle.
We are becomming much too entitled. Be glad that our drinking water is easily available. To put it in perspective, worldwide more than twice the population of the United States does not have access to any clean drinking water.
I'll get off my soapbox. I feel the need to throw in a reality check every so often.

Matt Damon is a member here? Wow. ;) (water.org)

(I agree with you 100%, and do not buy bottled water at home or at work - only on vacation to ensure the kids stay hydrated (it's a novelty))

I think the big problem is the quality of the tap water in Central Florida. Put simply, it tastes terrible. I have no problem drinking tap water or using a water fountain when the water is decent quality, but the tap water in Orlando tastes like you're drinking the runoff from a load of bleached bed sheets.

All ice water in you get free in the parks and restaurants across WDW is filtered and does not taste bad at all. I would not drink straight tap water but if it's filtered and taste fine I'm okay and the free water at WDW is perfectly suitable. :)

You can also buy Brita water bottles where a filter goes in the spout. They're usually less than 10 bucks on Amazon or most brick and mortar stores, with the first filter (or two) included.

And put me down in a category of not-needing-my-water-ice-cold in summer. I used to be a non-profit canvasser and learned pretty quickly during the summer that, if anyone offered me ICE water, it would make me feel thirstier and give me a splitting headache. I'd ask for tap water (back when tap water wasn't the life-risk it is now, haha), warm, or bring my own.

not justifying it, but cheaper than it is at the concession stand of my local movie theater. :greedy:
That was my first thought as well. I took my girls to the matinee at our little 8 screen theater here in town this weekend. My small fountain drink was $4.75 and a small popcorn would have cost me $5.50. No thanks. I had some of the popcorn from their kid pack deal. Still cost me $18 for three sodas, some gummy fruit snack and a couple of mini size popcorns. WDW prices are high but their not the worst offender out there.

There's certainly a big difference between a company that uses tickets as a loss-leader and WDW, where admission is most certainly not a money losing proposition. I like supporting movie theaters since they hardly make any money on ticket sales, I'd like for them to stick around a bit longer.

A quick reminder that "Water" is still free in Disney at counter service locations. Okay, so in AK you may have to get very vocal to get your cup of water, and the employees are known to insist that their water spigots are broken (in which case, if they were in MA, they should not be selling food at all.) Disney knows if the masses don't stay hydrated their first aid stations will have a medical meltdown as guests pass out left and right.

When did CMs tell you the water spigots were broken? That seems pretty sketchy. I never get any sort of push back when I request water, I even ask for a large cup and 90% of the time that's what I get.

Yep I've never had a problem getting a big cup of ice water at any QS location or the little Kiosks/carts that sell fountain drinks across WDW. :)

On several occasions, different years, always at AK. Never had trouble at any other park. MK is amazingly good with getting water for us to the point that many places will already have it poured out waiting.

That's weird, was it Yak and Yeti? They are run by outside company, so might have a different policy?

I can only recall them as an drink kiosk with the beverage dispenser, a food stand near that last one, also with a beverage dispenser, "the tea place", and a small bakery counter. Sorry - bad with names.

I doubt it, unless there was an issue with their water supply. We almost always eat lunch there when in AK, and my wife prefers water with lemon on warmer days. We've never had any problem or resistance. It could be because we have a Landry's card, which means the manager will be stopping by our table at some point to ask if everything is OK.
