Fort Wilderness Cabins

I've been researching different options for possible future trips to WDW and so far the one that is most intriguing is the cabins at Fort Wilderness. They are the best space for the size of our family, and we are outdoorsy so they match our personalities well. Only I worry about how far they are from the parks. I remember in visiting Fort Wilderness that there is a whole internal bus service, then a transfer station near the parking lot. How much of a pain is this??

Ft Wilderness Cabins

We have stayed in the cabins and camped in the campground and it is, by far, one of our favorite places to stay. There is an outside company that rents golf carts. We got a limo gas powered cart for $300 for 8 days and they delivered it to the parking lot outside the actual campground and we drove it in. We never used the internal bus sytem, instead drove our cart to the marina and took the boat to the TTC or to Magic Kingdom. We also drove it to the front of the campground and took a bus to Downtown Disney. The cabins have a nice sized bathroom and loads of towels!! The pools are easily accessible by cart and have laundry facilities nearby, just another reason to rent a cart! We would have lunch at the main pool while we swam and did our laundry. Love it!

We are a family of 5 and just got back from Disney. We stayed 3 nights at the Cabins. Compared to most other options for a family of 5-6 people, the cabins are an excellent option.

My wife and I slept on the pull down Murphy bed and my 3 kids slept in the main bedroom with the queen size bed and the bunk bed.

With the kitchen table, full size fridge, stove, and microwave, it was a very nice place to stay.

We had no problems with the bathroom at all... except to have to wait in line.

I thought the internal bus transportation system was very efficient. It's easy, never really crowded (I was there in late July), and on time. A golf cart would have been fun, but not necessary. And, the cost is $62.50 per day to rent one. Others have quoted a lower price here, but either they just raised the price or they quoted me something higher because they thought I was loaded with big bucks. Regardless, we did not rent the golf cart and spent the money on something else.

We rode the internal bus system to the parking lot and then waited approx 8-10 minutes to catch the bus to Epcot. So, that wasn't too bad. On another day we took the internal bus system to the lake and took the ferry to Magic Kingdom. It's all easy.

Overall, it was nice. We are Disney Vacation Club members. We have stayed in the 1,2, and 3 bedroom vacation homes (which are still my first choice), but the cabins are probably the best bet for someone with a family that could use a little extra square footage to move around, have a kitchen, and be a very relaxed atmosphere.

Hope that helps,

Rich

I stayed in a cabin last July with a group of 7 (toddlers, teens & adults). We loved it! The internal bus system was efficient, we never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus, & didn't spend more than 10 minutes on the bus. Unfortunately, it can take up to 20 for a WDW bus to pick you up from the main FW bus stop & another 30 - 45 minutes to get to the park you want, but you'd have that situation at any of the resorts. The best part of the FW internal transportation system is that you are a 15 minute boat ride from Magic Kingdom! Then you can hop a monorail to Epcot! That gets you into 2 of the parks a lot faster than waiting for the regular WDW bus system to pick you up! I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!

30 to 45 minutes to get to a park? Exaggerate much?
