Fort Wilderness Cabins

My wife and I were thinking about taking a trip to WDW in 2006 with my parents and her brother and mother. We thought it would be cool to stay in one of the cabins at Fort Wilderness. The only problem is I know nothing about them and was hoping my dear WDWMagic friends might be able to give us some much needed info.

Have any of you stayed at one of the cabins? How many do they sleep? Are there choices for number of bedrooms? How much can they run price wise? Are they nice? How far apart are they from other things?

Any input would be appreciated.

Our family was going to stay in the cabins during our last trip in October 2004. We actually prepaid everything and the rate was $260/night (b/c extra adults). Anyways, I stumbled across a discount code and called to inquire about it. They applied the code to my existing reservation and we were able to get 2 cabins for the price of 1. However, they also said that I could stay @ the AKL for a little less. So, I actually opted for the AKL, and got the savanna room.

My point is this: look for the discount codes and call when you get them. The cabins sleep 6 people and you get charged for extra adults. It also depends on when you are wanting to vacation @ WDW. The cabins looked awesome, but I just couldn't turn down the AKL.

Have a great trip.

I believe all cabins can sleep up to 6: A King (maybe a queen) sized bed plus bunk beds in the bedroom, and a Murphy bed that can sleep 2 in the living room. So while 6 could sleep there, even if 4 people don't mind sharing a room while 2 sleep on the Murphy bed, do any of the adults want to sleep in a bunk bed. I'd imagine her mother would take the bottom bunk and her brother the top, so the couples could be together, but still, unless all your family really know each other and really get along...I'd pass on the cabins.

How long are you staying? If one person gets an annual pass, you'll potentially get some great discounts on room rates, maybe enough to get 2 rooms (or 2 cabins).

We would probably stay for about a week. My wife and I refuse to stay for any time shorter and the cabins would give our parents a place that feels a little like home. My mother-in-law is a very nature-oriented person.

After doing a bit of research, I am quickly coming to the conclusion that maybe we should consider getting two cabins. One for us and my parents and one for my in-laws.

Our families get along great. Thinking about having one bathroom for six adults worries me a bit. I am hoping there will be some discount codes pop up. The only problem is we are still over a year away from this trip. We wanted to set some date if possible and save up some money for the vacation.

Hmmm.... I may have to give Kingdom Konsultants a call.

Keep sharing your ideas.

My family and I love staying at the Cabins. They've got a great cozy feel to them. They sleep 6. When they call them cabins, they are actually trailers that are made to look like cabins. When you walk in, you are in the living room which has the fold up Murphy bed. Then you turn left and walk though the kitchen, past the bathroom and into the bedroom, which has a queen or king sized bed and a set of bunk beds. This is the only layout I have ever seen after staying there numerous times and I don't think any other layout is available.

I HIGHLY recommend the cabins.
