Formal Night...

SO, hubby posed a question about formal night and where else would I go for the answer but to those who would know best!
Our previous cruises only included a dressy night (4 night). Our upcoming (40 days away :)) cruise includes a formal night. The girls and I have been prepping. We have beautiful dresses and are really excited. Now, hubby is a firefighter and asked if it would be appropriate for him to wear his dress uniform for formal night? Having never been to a formal evening, we wondered if others have done this? So.... I'm calling on the input of veteran Disney cruisers out there. Have you seen this for formal nights?

p.s. He also has nice suits he could wear. BUT, I have to admit he looks pretty awesome in that uniform ;)

Absolutely! My husband always wears his military tux. We always see others doing the same. Who doesn't love a man in uniform? :)

I think our cruise was a bit off. We only saw 1 other family in formal attire. Most others were in cruise casual if not jeans & tees. But, hey, we got some good pics!

Can't wait to see your pics! I LOVE the opportunity to get all dressed up :D It's just different from the "every day" Besides I think everyone looks better "dressed to the nines"!

Thanks for the input. He'll be happy to hear that. :) Now to convince him to wear the hat too ....lol

I wore my USAF Formal Dress uniform and got a lot of great comments. I would say that about half the people on formal night were at least in coat and tie with a good number in tux, full dress uniform, etc.

SO by "full dress uniform" you would include the hat, right? ;)

Definitely felt like our recent sailing was a bit "off". I'd say easily better than half the passengers were first timers and unsure how to treat the different dress nights. It was veeeery different from our other 3 cruises. ;)

Is formal night in every restaurant? If I don't bring formal clothes, what are my options? Thanks in advance.

Formal night is the same night in every restaurant. If you don't want to dress up, the buffet is open (although it's not a buffet at night), there is room service, and several places to get quick service type food up top.

Thanks. So, if lets say formal night is the night we are to be at AP, then we are SoL, or we'll need to dress up I guess. Thanks for your previous reply.

Yes, there is one night on each 7+ night cruise that is designated as Formal Night, and formal dress is suggested in all 3 of the rotational restaurants that night.

If you don't bring formal clothes, there are a couple of options. 1) You can bring a jacket and tie (or a suit) and wear it for both formal and semi-formal night (this is what my dad always used to do); 2) you can rent a tux and have it waiting for you on board ( http://www.cruiselineformal.com/cf_pages/?c=dcl ); 3) or you can simply go cruise casual. The dress codes in the rotational restaurants are merely suggestions. There are always people who come in to dinner wearing shorts and a t-shirt on Formal Night.

Or you can always eat at Topsider's/Beach Blanket Buffet/Cabana's, as Tammy pointed out; again, beating me to the punch!! :p

We are going for a 4 night cruise on the Dream in a few weeks. It seems we always overpack and are trying to scale things down a bit. I plan on bringing dress pants, polos, button downs, etc. I will not be going to dinner in shorts and a t shirt. I just think it would be weird if we walked into dinner and people are dressed up and we are cruise casual.

Oh, Tammy will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that there is a Formal Night on a 4 night itinerary.

There will be lots of people who are not dressed up. As much as I personally like to be formal, I would not want you to miss one of the restaurants just b/c you don't have a tux.
