The Living with the Land boat ride in the Land Pavilion is currently closed for refurbishment. During this time, a pre-recorded audio track is being installed into the boats to be used in place of the live cast members who have previously done most of the tour.

NOOOOOO!!!!! do not do this BAD IDEA!!! I liked cast members doing the tour make it more interactive

So, Let's Boycott the land this not my kind of plan, let's boycott the land, let's boycott the land

untill they bring back the Cast Members

Actually, the new recordings will be doing more good than bad. Although CM's will no longer be on-board, the benifits include, but are not limited to:

Increased Capicity (shorter lines)
Time to do a minor rehab on the attraction and greenhouses
Loss of FP (agian going to shorter lines)
CMs go to other short-handed locations at Epcot
Nobody will ever be able to complain of a dull tour guide agian!

I think boycotting is a bit much, after all, it will do much good for the Land.

listening to a tape would make me fall asleep

but an actual conversation with another person "CM" is more interesting than a "dull" tape

got a lot of helpful tips from land cm's especially for orchids and plumarias

In recent years though, the script became the only thing CM's were permitted to say, with no ad-libbing. So, essentially the same as a recording. Besides, there is always the Behind the SEEDS tour for those who want a bit more of a tour.

Yeah, the Haunted Mansion and most WDW attractions are SO dull with their pre-recorded speils.

I guess you fall asleep on all disney darkrides then. Lately the LwTL CMs I experienced with the expetion of 1 looked bored, sounded bored and monotone and really didn't shine at all. I guess that happens after reciting the same spiel over an over. There is not interaction between the CM and the guests on LwTL, so I don't see this being a loss.

The Behind the Seeds tour is awesome and that is where you can truly interact with a CM in the greenhouses.

I recall DreamFlight having a pre-recorded spiel, as well as the Op's favorite ride Mission:Space, so don't be putting down pre-recorded stuff! It's the best!

I had to wait forever to ride LWTL. I partially blame Fastpass because having two FP rides next to each other means everyone gets in line for one and FPs the other and capacity is damaged by all the people coming off Soarin'. This is because t was a short line, but it seriously took about 45 minutes because of all the FP returns. But the reduced number of boats certainly hurts as well.

Give me efficiency!

You are joking right. See I had a hard time with the CMs on that ride. The problem was that they didn't feel lively to me. See the ones that are over in AK and other WDW rides do feel like they love their job and that they like being there. Compare that to LwtL and they are not like that. So it is good that WDW did replace the CMs with a voice system.

Several years ago, I would have agreed with you. Back when I used to work for a large grain processing company (wheat...we produced flour), I used to like to sit at the front of the boat and discuss some of the information with the CM. The last couple of years, though, the cast members could barely speak normal english (no, I don't mean foreign accent...I mean conversational, academic, American English...most of the foreign CM's speak better english than the CM's on LwTL), and really didn't have any knowledge byond the script. Kind of sad...

I'll still ride...and still enjoy. (although now I'm more interested in their computer systems than the agricultural processes...even though they are fascinating, too). I'll miss the old cast members, but this will just be an easier to understand version of what the current CM's were doing.

My opinion, usual disclaimers apply.

About 2-3 years ago..

My CM was bright eyed, cheerful, and ready for that voyage of discovery ;)

We went around into the green houses, and he/she would talk about how you could smell the rosemary they just harvested that morning. If the cotton was budding, there was often a bud plucked from the heap and passed around the boat. Leaves of the pepper plants were passed around to be smelt as well. People did ask questions, there were responses.

Currently? Nada. Same script every time, and the CMs are forbidden to deviate. It's dull, and if you get a particularly bored CM it can be almost painful.

I'm all for atleast making the ride consistent and making the line move faster.

Riiiiiight. Because boycotting an attraction that had so little attendance it had to draw people in with "surprise" fastpasses given out at Soarin' and Test Track is going to do anything.

Yea, I agree with the ones that says it kinda sucks. But I somewhat understand the change, once again, its gonna take some time to grow on me.

I think this will be a good change, but if this is something you care a lot about, go for it. I don't think it will change anything, but you certainly have a right to be against a complete pre-recorded spiel here. I just hope they get the same female voice from the begining of the attraction. She is perfect for Living With The Land.

"Now if you look up the river you'll see another one of our tour guides, his name is the Che- everyone say hi to The Cheeeeeeat."

Lwtl has been impaled on a script for the past few years, there has been very little guest interaction these days. The automation is only the next logical step.

Edit: In reply to the post above mine, isn't the female voice in the beginning of Living with the land the same voice behind the daily announcements at Epcot?

I have to agree that this change is for the better after the current state. The time for a boycott woul dhave been when they tethered the CMs to a strict script. That destroyed the interactivity and really pushed toward this automated spiel. It has been in the works for several years. I would rather have an interested voice and free up CMs to go to other attractions than bored CMs that really don't care at all. I just wish they would plan to update it often (which does not seem to be the case). Maybe they can drop the BTS tours so more people can experience that.
