Why does it take 3-4 years to build mission space but less than a year to make a coaster?

Simple....

The coaster is built in a factory in pieces, all the parts are numbered and ready to assemble. So by the time you actually SEE construction going on, 2/3 of the work is already done.

Disney is using all NEW technology, using methods that have never been tried, much less tested. They have to bring in the best and brightest in the field to make sure every little bit of construction goes smoothly.

Not to mention they are putting it INSIDE a building. They have to build that whole thing, theme it, install all the little things that make it Disney-esque.

And, remember, this isn't a coaster. RnR's coaster was ready in very short order when they built it. Building the building and actual ride system was the hard part.

I'm not about to get in a war of words here about a coaster being built in less than a year and why Disney ( with research)builds E-ride attractions in 4years. No one here thinks it can happen in less time? The brain-washing must be working.

I'd like to point out that Mission: Space, when it is complete, will have taken about 2 1/2 years to construct (we clearly should not include the Horizons demolition in this time). The main attraction will be all NEW technology, never been used in any theme park attraction in the world. The show building will be HEAVILY themed to set a rich atmosphere from the moment you approach the building to moment you walk (dizzy) through the requisite gift shop. Not to mention a pretty slick landscape...but I digress. This is not bolting together track pieces and putting together a loading platform. This is theme park showmanship at its best!

Or, you could be right...maybe it is a great conspiracy to see how long a half finished building can sit in a theme park and cause longer lines at neighboring attractions. Who knows....

Ride systems, in general, do not take long to build--it is all the extras disney puts in that takes the most time. I mean, the ride system for Mission: SPACE is just a bunch of metalwork, so I'm sure they didn't spend more than a few weeks building the centrifuges...it's been the construction of the building, all the theming, and just getting the ride system to work properly that has taken so long.
