Forbidden Journey Seats - Size Requirements?

They have to balance the needs of the average guest with the demand to seat as many people at a time as possible.

They could make the seats or restraints twice as large but then you only move half as many people.

And the fact still stands most guests will fit on the ride just fine. So do you build a ride to fit 90% of people that keeps the line moving quickly, or do you build it to fit 10% of people and slow the line?

I understand the idea of moving people through but that brings out another issue....has anyone been to Ollivander's?? There is one room that fits about 30 people for a 5 minute experience (which includes one person actually trying out wands). This was not built to accomodate large numbers of people. According to a worker, we waited in one of the shorter lines and that was about one hour.

Making a different type of restraint would not necessarily slow the line. If they added a seatbelt similar in style to the coasters to one bench, that could possibly allow people to ride with "2 clicks".

Yeah, Ollivander's had a poor set up - A similar concept (intimate minitiature show) is being put in place with Cinderella in the Fantasyland expansion, and it appears based on the blue prints that they will have multiple Cinderella's in multiple rooms. This probably should have been addressed with Ollivander's.

Are the over the shoulder restraints relatively standard? Do they have the seatbelts like Dragon Challenge and The Hulk or is it just the restraint?

They are somewhat standard, but they do cover the thighs. There is no seatbelt, which is I guess why they are being so strict with "3 clicks". As I said before I'm a pretty big guy and I was very comfortable in my seat. I hate that some people can't ride though because FJ is as good as anything we've seen since Mission Space.

How do they cover the thighs? Is it an additional lock like Manta except on your thighs, or does the bottom of the shoulder restraint a bit larger to wrap around your thighs?

Pic someone posted on another forum, gives you a good view of the seating.

I was really concerned that I wouldn't be able to ride on this trip. I actually lost about stone in the past couple of months bringing me to about 270 pounds (i'm still dieting). I'm 5 10 and i'm a big guy with some extra baggage but I hold weight quite well with it never being an issue when playing sports at a competitive level.

I was gutted when getting in the test seat and seeing the dreaded red light. I thought i'd go in the queue anyway and try the seats once for this trip, and to my joy with a light push from the ride attendent I got the 3 clicks quite comfortably. So it is worth trying it once, and i'm going to use this experience as motivation for this not to ever be an issue for me again.

This issue....combined with what I amhearing are serious capacity issues at WWOHP, has caused me to consider diverting my plans for this summers trip. We were going to half a day over at WWOHP in august....which would necessitate an added day to our car rental, tickets for ioa, etc....

All for what may be waits to get into WWOHP, multihour long queues to buy a stupid wand for the kids...and a mutihour queue on a ride where I may or may not fit (I'm over 6'5" and very broad shouldered)....the fact that I'm hearing about ride employees rejecting riders after they passed checks on the queue is quite disturbing.

I've spent my entire life dealing with issues related to my height....heck Before I consider a car purchase on the merits of the automobile I have to see if I fit into the drivers seat. The fact that Disneys attractions all fit me fine...but i will be forced to spend a ton of money just to see if this one does infuriates me.....

Even if the ride wasn't an issue I would still hold off until this hysteria dies down.....three hour waits to get into olivanders is ludicrous!

This is the exact reason I stay from Universal Orlando. I am 5'7, 338lbs male - round in chest and waist. My last visit to Islands of Adventure I was rejected from almost all the rides! I left after 2 hours in embaressment because a group of teenage workers laughed when I got stuck in the rides seat. I am done with Universal Orlando!

My money faithfully goes to WDW!!!!

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but with those dimensions you can't really expect much. Disney is about the only place you WOULDN'T get rejected from riding because 95% of their attractions have no restraint system to speak of. Anything even remotely thrilling is going to require a restrictive restraint system for safety reasons. It's not Universal's fault that they're following manufacturer guidelines. If you want to ride it badly enough, lose the weight...that's what I did.
