Haunted Mansion Holiday is a Halloween and Christmas thing, so it usually opens in late September and runs until just after New Years.

Watching the seasons change at Disneyland from October through December is always fun! Around the first of November these are removed from the park entry turnstiles...

And around November 10th these are up instead...

That always tells you the Christmas spirit has arrived at Disneyland.

It's A Small World Holiday is just for Christmas, so it usually opens with the rest of the Christmas stuff around Veterans Day weekend in November.

Woody's Halloween Roundup at the Big Thunder Ranch closes in early November,

and reopens in mid November as Santa's Reindeer Roundup, with Santa's fleet of reindeer shipped in from the North Pole.

The rest of the Christmas decorations and entertainment are usually up by Veterans Day weekend, including the Believe In Holiday Magic fireworks. Depending on the calendar though, the Christmas Fantasy Parade doesn't usually start until the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the response!

I've said all along that I want to wait until all the additions are done to come out to Cali but I'm not exactly known for my patience. I think we've done WDW enough that doing something a bit different could be refreshing. Especially after reading your response, I think being there as the decorations go up could be interesting in itself. We've been at WDW to see decorations appear/disappear overnight which was it's own kind of fun waking up to new things to take note of. I'll be looking at dates & such still. Hopefully the budgeting will all work out.

Thanks again for all the perspective with pics!

You're welcome! It's fun to dig up these pics.

Another themed display that bridges the Halloween and Christmas period is the Dia De Los Muertos decorations in Frontierland, which celebrates the Mexican "Day of the Dead" holiday. It goes up in early October and stays up until early November, because that holiday is just the first few days of November and is not connected to Halloween really. They have a plaque explaining the background and culturual significance of it all, with free face painting and daily mariachi concerts. It's quite interesting.
