Fox Orders Pilot Starring Barenaked Ladies

Associated Press/AP Online

LOS ANGELES - Fox Broadcasting Co. has ordered a pilot for a variety show starring the Barenaked Ladies that will feature the playful rock group performing music and comedy skits along with guest actors.

The Canadian band, known for writing upbeat songs with quirky lyrics and engaging their audiences with onstage banter, will have plenty of leeway to ad-lib on the show, tentatively titled, "The Barenaked Ladies Variety Show."

All of the band members - Steven Page, Jim Creeggan, Ed Robertson, Kevin Hearn and Tyler Stewart - will perform.

"This is a natural expansion to their live experience," said co-executive producer John Ziffren. "We are trying to capture that energy and make it into a TV show."

Sweeeeeet!! I saw them in concert a few years back... easily one of the best performances I've ever seen. They were up there having a blast, and they made it so much fun for the crowd. I'll definitely be watching!

I heard about this on the commute in to work this morning...very cool. I've seen them a few times (Before they got "huge" a local radio station had them play a live show outside in Boston... The expected outcome of people was around 8-10,000....but a little more than that showed up... try 80,000. )

I also saw them on New Year's Eve one year...WHAT A SHOW! :sohappy:

They rock live...very "improv-ish" style shows...with a little "weird AL" mixed in :D

They are a great band live. My wife and I saw them in Atlanta in August -- they were touring with Alanis Morrissette, but we left before she hit the stage. Without a doubt, the best performers I have ever seen live. I'm hoping they will play a smaller venue in the near future in Chattanooga.
