For all of the beer lovers out there

I think they tried to test the waters with the "craft beer" at Big River...but that place is terrible and it doesn't scream popular to WDW so i doubt they would look to expand the field...although we can hope, a BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse would be good.
There is no draw- the beer is so so and the food is like Appleby's- yuck. I agree, put something a bit more eccentric in there and it could work.

You can find craft beers around. You just have to know where to look for them. Both Portobello and the Wave serve local Florida brews, usually on tap. Il Mulino and bluezoo both have a respectable assortment of bottles from all over the country, and the Cabana Bar right around the corner from those two fine establishments has a rotating selection of about six to eight draft options. Port Orleans carries Abita beers. Old Key West has Sunset Ale on draft.

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA is available in every lounge, and that's a damn fine beer, one I am disappointed that I can't get anymore now that I live in the middle of nowhere.

The state of craft beers in the World isn't great, but there's treasure to be found if you dig enough. True, I would like to see at least one establishment that focuses on interesting, constantly changing draft selections from all over the world, but even if they did build such a place, Disney would be limited by the ability to procure enough of a supply to feed their huge customer base. For some small to mid-level craft breweries, that could be their entire stock for a given period of time, maybe even the whole year.

American micro and macro breweries are taking over the beer game. (Sam Adams, Dogfish Head, Rogue, New Belgium, Pyramid, etc)- European countries used to hold the title but America has completely ran away with it. A good example is when Weihenstephan Brewery (one of the oldest breweries in the world) announced they were going to do a collaboration with another brewer, everyone assumed they would choose a European brewery, but they did not! They chose Sam Adams and they created Infinium Ale which is a champagne/beer style ale. The demand for quality beer in America is rising every day and Disney would be foolish not to get on board with this. There used to be not much of a selection outside of Epcot or a few of the resort restaurants, but as of last year I started seeing Sam Adams selections at HS and AK beer carts which is a big step in the right direction. The Food and Wine Festival should be renamed Food and Wine and Beer Festival because they have added more craft beer selections each year. Even the deluxe resorts club levels have stepped up and started offering a few micro brews in the lounges. Brown Derby at HS has a decent craft beer selection as well now. Its creeping in very slowly and in a few years we may see a wide variety offered all over property. The problem is that beer distribution is basically controlled in a mafia style racket and AB Inbev (Anheuser-Busch) is at the head of the table. They make it very difficult for smaller breweries to get their product out on the shelf. Im sure Disney has enough muscle and money to get around that though. Micro and macro breweries are popping up all over the country and it is very exciting times for 'beer snobs' everywhere. Strength in numbers and high demand should propel better beer into the Disney parks soon. I have been a home brewer for the last 6 years and I take my beer VERY seriously. I look forward to what the future has to offer for two of my biggest passions, Disney, and beer! Cheers to all the Hop-Heads out there and I'll see you at the pub!

I can maybe see it happening somewhere in DTD, but not in the parks. I say be lucky we get the "Craft Brew" cart during F&W.

Isn't the whole idea of the "craft brew" that they are created in small batches? Can you imagine how much beer would be needed to make a craft brew a regular beer at epcot, I would say substantially more than a "small batch" So then that craft brew becomes something like Sam Adams...making it not a craft brew anymore. Catch 22 my friends. You can't have something non-mainstream in a VERY mainstream place and expect it to stay non-mainstream.

Exactly. Making something in small batches does not equal quality. I home brew, I have made some small batches of crap.

Along the same lines, just because it is made in mass quantity does not mean it is bad.

Also, the idea that more is better is incorrect. Just because 2 oz of hops in a 5 gal batch is good, does not mean that 6 oz is better.

As for Budweiser, I don't like it. Not because of what it is, but because I don't like the taste. I don't care if it is made with rice, corn, or the tears of orphans. If it tastes good, then it tastes good. Budweiser used to be the expensive beer. When brewing first started in America (before prohibition) most beers were ales, dark, and full of flavor. Creating a lighter, lager style beer, with RICE was more expensive. Rice was more expensive. Because of prohibition, and the positioning of brewhouses during prohibition to sell other products and stay afloat, the landscape of American beers changed drasticaly. Read "Brew Wars" (I think that is the name, too lazy to go check) for a good history of beer in America.

OK, I hate being lazy. I went and looked (and found it quicker than I though I would) . Man was I waaaaay off. The book I was thinking of is "Ambitious Brew"

Beer Wars is a pretty well known documentary about the American Beer industry. So I can see where you pulled Brew Wars from. I will definitely be checking out that book though. Thanks for the recommendation.

Went to the Hunaphu fest at Cigar City a couple of weeks ago- the home brewery made the BEST beer I ever had! I was amazed. Didn't know how far home brewing has come!

Ok now you are talking my talk! I work at a microbrew bar as a bartender! We don't make our own but we have 26 taps and over a hundred bottles! I love IPAs, stoudts, pale ales, belgians, wheat beers, pils, and porters. I love any beer but I don't like sweet beers or fruit in my beer! The maudite in Canada and Chimay at BOG are worth a shot for sure!! Great thread:D

My new BFF :) I do agree Unibroue has fantastic beer- Trois Pistoles is my favorite. I love stoudts, porters, belgians and IPAs that aren't too harsh/bitter. And a little fruit in my beer never killed me, but only blueberry (in fall) and orange (in summer). We have a little Bar/Grille in my neighborhood and he tries to get stuff no one else has around here- usually has 8 on tap and probably a hundred in bottles. It's still so regional on what you can get it's amazing.

Never heard of Hanaphus Day. Just looked it up. Man , that must have been a blast. I'd love to see some pics. Definitely gonna check that out next year and plan a quick Disney trip around it! Yeah, I agree that homebrewing has come a long way. We (my buddy and I), are at the point of running p.h and chemical tests of our water to ensure quality! It's great to brew a nice strong ale that knocks everyones socks off.

No
Many of the restaurants in WDW carry specialty beers now. Not a huge selection, but there are definitely beers I can't get at home. AKL has several African and Indian brews. Flying fish carries some local Florida brews as well. I could never go on vacation and drink the same beer I can at home. No way.

For my upcoming trip I am stopping at Knightly Spirits of Orange Blossom Trail to pick up some supplies for the week.

I look forward to sitting back in my room watching the fireworks while enjoying some great American Craft Beer.

No way will I be drinking Bud and the like, let alone at Disney's inflated prices!
