Forbidden Journey will stand the test of time. Flight of Passage probably won’t. Forbidden Journey has a likable IP and a variety of effects (some timeless) and a story. Flight of Passage has cool technology and the day that the technology falls apart, the ride is embarrassing. It won’t happen for a long time but... I think the day will come.
I would say the story for FJ is not much better. The “flying benches”, the cringey dialogue, the feeling of it being a pastiche of disconnected Potter greatest hits... that’s what holds it back from being a perfect ride, IMO. In that sense it’s more similar than anything else to FOP. Otherwise I don’t find the two all that comparable beyond being the e-tickets of their respective places.

To have a truly informed opinion, both must be ridden at the same time.
What's funny to me is how Forbidden Journey is an 8 year old ride, and Flight of Passage just turned 1....and this conversation wouldn't even be happening because Flight of Passage would never have existed if not for the Wizarding World and Forbidden Journey.

This theme park renaissance happening in Orlando never would've happened without Potter.

I think these are odd attractions to compare.

With Forbidden Journey, the ride system technology was, and still is, jaw dropping. It more than makes up for a few shortcomings that the ride has: The action in the ride is a "Harry Potter Greatest Hits" list and really doesn't make much sense when you really think about it. Also, it was better before the ride movements were modified and toned down. The current configuration gives you a bit too much direct views of ride infrastructure. These are of course, minor complaints.

Flight of Passage is the best theater simulator attraction in the world. I agree with another poster that it is evolutionary while Forbidden Journey is revolutionary. Flight of Passage is not quite as ground-breaking, but is still very impressive and unique. No other simulator I have been on has more realistic-feeling movements. I also love that the approach to the ride was just to make a beautiful experience that taps into your emotions and makes you feel good. It is 100% free of all theme park cliche's.

Both have amazing queues. I can't really choose.

I think there's a few things that can affect how you feel about both attractions. FJ is good, but nauseating and I don't feel great after riding it. It also doesn't follow a cohesive storyline.

FOP absolutely blew me away when I first rode it. YES, it's an evolutionary ride, but IMO, so is FJ, the only difference in FJ being the ride vehicle as much of it is similar to Spiderman with the physical and film effects.

FOP is pushing the idea of screen-based simulator to its limit and honestly, before I rode it, I didn't think it could be done so well! The mixture of the various elements are done so brilliantly well that it feels more than the sum of its parts.

I enjoyed both but I really got the “wow” feeling from FoP. I couldn’t believe how realistic it was, down to the “breathing” effect. It was exactly what I imagined flying might be like.

FJ was, for me, an equally good ride but a very different ride. I don’t think the two can easily be compared.

Forbidden Journey is a fantastic attraction, but I'm not sure how much of my love for that attraction is based on my love of Harry Potter in general. For a Harry Potter fan, the ride is complete nirvana. My biggest complaint about Forbidden Journey is the narrative. I mean, as a Harry Potter fan you understand everything you are seeing, but I could imagine how someone not familiar with he source material may be confused as to what is happening (which is not so much an issue with Flight of Passage). Additionally, even if you are well versed on Harry Potter, actually figuring out how/why you are transitioning between each scene can be very tough to grasp. It feels in a lot of ways just like they wanted to take as many exciting things from the Harry Potter universe as they could and shove them together into a 4.5 minute ride. They present this narrative of how you are trying to go to the Quiditich match and the story goes well enough for the most part at the start, but then you get this jarring transition of going between the top of the tower (with the dragon) into the Forbidden Forest (with the acromantulas) and I'm still not sure how they figure you get into the Chamber of Secrets from the Quiddiotch Match...

Nonetheless, despite those possible areas of improvement, I still like Forbidden Journey more (and am just saying there are still yet ways that the ride could be even better). Flight of Passage is still a very fun attraction, though!

I believe that a LOT of the love of FJ is based on peoples love of Potter.
None of my family of four had seen any of the Potter movies when we rode FJ, and none of us had any desire to ride it again.
We didn't hate it, but it just didn't connect.
