Trip Report Food & Wine with a Long Line, but plenty of Sunshine! (and beer)

Trip reports are great and there's so much to know...
climb aboard explorers, its time to gooooo!

Welcome everyone to my overdue trip report! Apologies again for the delay and for a complete lack of updates and pics while we were actually in WDW, but there was a reason for that. Well, it was actually due to a mistake but we turned it into something new for us in terms of this TR. Allow me to explain. About an hour after we were on the road my wife turns to me and asks, "did you grab the camera bag out of the office"? I paused, then slowly turned my head to look at her as my bottom lip rolled up against my teeth in the manor which you make an 'F' sound. It was like the scene in the movie Christmas Story when Ralphie slowly says, "ffffffffudge". Although I didnt say fudge, well neither did Ralphy actually, but anyway... we realized that we had left our camera back at home. Ugggghhhhhh!:arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh: There was no way I was turning around since we were already an hour into the trip. We both had our phones and we figured it would have to do.

Then she drops another bomb on me. She reminds that her phone memory is full and she cant take pictures. She had an issue syncing her iphone to her laptop to transfer pics and after a long call with tech support they told her she would have to bring her phone in and they would take care of it. Of course she hadnt brought it in yet which left us with one phone capable of taking pictures for the trip. I recently upgraded to the LG 4 (or whatver its called) and it has a great camera and decent battery. In that moment, my phone became Obi-Wan Kenobi because....it was our only hope! So after a short discussion we decided that the best plan was to take pictures and video and conserve battery whenever we could which would mean not going online to often, especially Instagram, which for some reason is a battery killer for my phone. No Instagram!:bawling::bawling::arghh::arghh: This was gonna be tough, lol. Then my idea for this TR was born. We wanted to take more videos this trip for Food and Wine and I proposed that we do a mash up of a normal TR mixed in with some videos and reviews. We thought when we returned home we could do a video review of both of us going over the events of the day as well since we wouldnt be able to get everything on film in the event my phone died during the day (which it did, EVERYDAY!)

So thats how this bad boy is gonna roll! We will write a summary of the day with pics and then add our video at the end which will be us at home going over the day. We made the first video last night and had a lot of fun. It took several attempts because Akira and the cats decided to all act up once we started (youll see in the video). But if anybody doesnt like videos or doesnt want to watch, I understand. But if you wanna get to know us a little better, give the vid a try. Hope you guys like it! Im gonna post this part now and then begin day writing day one and post it within the hour. Sorry for no pics in this part, I just wanted to explain what we would be doing. There is plenty of good stuff ahead, dont worry!

Loving your trip report. You and your wife are really cute together! (#relationshipgoals lol). I've never thought to do a monorail bar crawl, but it looks like fun and a great way to check out the monorail loop resorts. I'll have to add it to my Disney bucket list!

Love it! thanks for the shoutout!

Did you fly back for this? :D
Lol, I wish. Maybe now I have a reason to plan a quick 2 day trip and add everybody i forgot! Seems legit. But Scrolling through my photos and vids of the trip I realized I had made several takes of the GF stop. I was glad when I saw that I made an addendum style video to add @sheriffwoody and @Tuvalu . IT was tough trying to remember everybody.

After our eer crawl was over we hopped on the monorail to MK. Weather was nice and we just wanted to ride a few attractions and then head back to Beach Club. Phone was dying so I didnt get any pictures. I remember riding HM, POTC, and then we bounced over to FLE and hit Little Mermaid. We probly rode another ride or two but I cant remember. Her are the only pics I took after we left GF

We hopped on the bus back to Beach Club and were ready for a good nights sleep. Especially after all that beer. So we got back to the room and as we walked in we noticed something was on the table. As we turned the light on we were greeted by a very large Mickey Shaped gift basket!
20151018_013458.jpg

Attached was a card....

20151018_013505.jpg

Not hand signed but still cool to see Kalogridis name on it. The basket was full of an assortment of apples and some granola bars. It was a nice touch after the gift card, chocolate mickey statue and strawberries earlier in the day. We still have the Mickey shaped basket which our cat uses to sleep in, lol. Its on the table behind us in our first video recap.

All in all, it was a great dy. We started early, had fun at HS, then Epcot for a snack then over to MK for beer crawl. The only hiccup was the delay for our room. As we got ready for be my wife expressed how she wished she had participated more in the beer crawl and started brainstorming ideas for the next one. She still brings it up and we hashing out a few cool ideas. Since we conquered the monorail crawl, we thought it might be cool to try and AK crawl starting at AKL and then moving to the park. We have been tossing around the idea of a short trip later this year at AKL so maybe that ill work out. Well, thats it for this day. Next up we wake up early to hit MK rope drop! So may people harp about FP+ allowing them to "sleep in" and not have to be at rope drop but I dont understand why. Its a grea to start te day and get a lot of attractions in before lunch. If we can get hammered the night before on a beer crawl and still wake up early the next morning, It shouldnt be too hard for a family with kids. Besides, your at DISNEY!!! Get up, and get to it!!! My brother and I are big fans of rope drop, but my sister is not. My brother coined the hashtag #DDTRW (Doing Disney The Right Way) and we use it every time we send pics from rope drop. But My sister uses #DDTWW (Doing Disney The Wrong Way). But hey, at least she admits it, LOL!!!

ETA: If you look closely in the photo of the gift basket, you will see the tv remote control behind it. It is wrapped in a sandwich bag. My wife does this because she is a germaphobe. Just curious to know if anybody or their spouse does anything like this? She cracks me up. She also wears sandals in the shower (she buys cheap jelly ones for every trip)

Oh, what a nice surprise when you both saw the pretty gift basket!

I chuckled over the baggy-covered TV remote. :joyfull: I figure whatever cooties are left on the hotel room's remote control by prior guests, probably aren't any stronger than mine, so it's a non-issue for me. ;) (Your wife is sweet though, trying to protect you. She means well. :) )

Day 3

We waned to be at MK for rope drop so we were up early. I slept like a baby after all that beer. We Showered up, I watched a little ESPN while she got ready and packed up our backpack and then we headed to the bus stop. We even skipped getting coffee so we could save a few minutes, plus we wanted to grab Starbucks once we got to the park. We snapped a quick selfie before we rounded the corner to get the bus area. We were very excited to be getting to MK early.

20151018_083308.jpg

We had about 45 minutes until rope drop and figured we had more than enough time. We were wrong. The bus stop was crazy packed. We have done rope drop enough to know that the bus stop can get a little jammed up, but this was busier than we have ever seen. It was crazy.

20151018_085436_HDR.jpg

This picture was taken AFTER a bus just loaded, and there are many people behind me as well. You hear stories about how there is a "better class of people" at the deluxe resorts. This is true in some areas, but in a situation like this, all that goes out the window. There was no order. A few us tried to act civilized but there were just too many people who decided that forming a line or standing in groups was not gonna work for them. A majority of the unruly were families with kids who felt like they deserved to be on the next bus. People were just standing wherever and jockeying for position to get the next bus. The poor CM was getting bombarded with questions. Im not the type to police a group of unruly people, but I will not allow anybody to take advantage of us either. I sat and watched as soooooo many people walked up to the bus stop and saw the crowd and then slowly crept through the crowd in an effort to sneak closer. They all did the same thing. They walked past the crowd like they were going to the next bust stop and then crept in behind us. I was on them like a hawk. I stared down several of the fathers as they got close to us. Working with dogs has taught me so much about body language. I know they saw me and realized I was on to them because they refused to maintain eye contact. They would look away (we call that "dodging"), so I would move closer to them and wait for them to look back up and stare at them again. One family was slick.and kept letting their kids play close to the yellow line so when the bus arrived they could act like they were joining their kids. I even heard the mom tell one of the kids to stay there (by the front). The lady in the photo above (with her arms crossed) noticed this as well and when the next bus arrived, her and I both stood in front of the kids and family trying to sneak on and stood there until several of us who had been there waiting had loaded. Im not sure if the family made it on, but they were not getting in before us!!!!

I dont think deluxe resorts should have special treatment with the buses , but when 5 empty buses for DTD pull up at 7 am, how hard would it be to re-route one to help alleviate the crowd? Anyway, by the time we got MK the rope drop ceremony had just ended. Weve seen it enough to not be upset about it so we headed to Starbucks for much needed COFFEE!!!

sorry for short post, Akira has protection class so we have to get going, Ill finish up later. Happy Sunday everyone!!!

Wow. That's wacko about the size of the crowd waiting for the bus. Aside of some lame and rude behavior by some of the guests, I also have to blame Disney for not providing enough buses to handle the crowds. (Rant: They know well AHEAD of time, because they have the hotel occupancy figures well AHEAD of time, that there will be a sizeable crowd for the buses. There is NO excuse for them to not ADD more buses when NEEDED--especially for the Deluxe resorts where people are paying an arm and a leg each day to stay there.)

Kudos to you for putting your dog training skills to work, with these "dogs" (guests) who were line cutters! :p

Very cool! First time I heard of the sandwich bag trick. As far as the sandals in the shower - I wore flip-flops in the shared showers way back when in my sports playing days.

As far as people trying to bum rush or sneak in front of you on the bus - I can't stand that. Like you I immediately go into another "mode" to defend our position. It gets me into a nasty mode and my family gets uncomfortable. Hate it.
I've decided next time we in a situation like that, I'll spend the $15 or so for a cab.

We just had a surprise switch because of free dining to AKL later this year as well!!

I've decided next time we in a situation like that, I'll spend the $15 or so for a cab.

A few times over the years, I've actually done that. You see, I don't mind waiting a reasonable amount of time for transportation. But if it's ridiculously long, to me, time is money. I only go for about 4 days and I have to weigh out the pros and cons of waiting, so sometimes it just makes sense to hop in a cab and go somewhere quickly, versus waiting if the lines are too long, and buses scarce--as happens from time to time.

Day 3 continued...

I wanted to write more last night, but after Akiras training class I took a shower and as I reached for the soap I sliced my finger on my wifes razor and now typing with band aid is not fun). It was a bloody mess. My finger slid all the way along the triple blade. She gets freaked out by a lot of blood, so as her punishment for leaving he razor next to the soap, I kept showing her my bloody finger.

anyway............

Got to Starbucks and ordered my guilty vacation pleasure coffee which is the iced caramel mocchiato!!! I only order this when we are at Disney. Partly because of the high calories and sugar, but mostly because it makes it that much more special. We enjoy the Starbucks on property and since the line is usually long in the morning we have learned to make it a fun experience. We just watch the rude people and their behavior patterns. Theyre everywhere at Disney so why not have fun with it. Our favorite is people who bring their stroller into the turn styles at Starbucks and then struggle with it. Then when waiting for our coffee we watch the people who stand right at the counter, even though there are several others ahead of them, they act like their coffee is about to be right out. They usually dont even move out of the way when a person is called up to get their order. They just stare at the person like "how on earth is your coffee ready before mine!!!!!" Newsflash lady, they ordered before you!!! We occasionally see a polite person or family that saves our faith in humanity tough. We dont set out to find negative things either, but when your at WDW, you can just stop in place and within a few minutes you will see somebody being completely rude or yelling at their kids in a rude manor. We just make the best of it.

So after a few minutes my coffee was ready and now the day can begin. Wife got a simple Pikes Place (boring:)).

20151018_093921.jpg

We decided to stroll around the right side of the castle and enjoy the sounds of Fantasy Land while sipping our drinks. As we made our by 7DMT the line was already backed up to the front of the Teacups, (not that we were attempting to ride it, just walking by). It was crazy. I snapped a pic. The line is all the people on the left side of the photo

20151018_094611_HDR.jpg

We had FP+ for BTMRR so started making our way to Frontier Land. Stopped for a picture by Tom Sawyer Island

20151018_095650.jpg

Next up was a rootin' tootin' ride through the frontier!

20151018_100621.jpg

She gets sooooooo paranoid when I hold my phone up on a coaster. The father and daughter behind us were hilarious. The girl kept asking questions through out the ride. "Why do they have their hands up?" "Why are they screaming?" "Can I put my hands up?" She was genuinely curious and it was very cute, not annoying.

Next up was Jungle Cruise!

20151018_102509.jpg

We had a good skipper for the voyage. If you have ridden Jungle Cruise enough, even a bad skipper can be fun as you can compare them to the others youve had in the past. Im gonna post this part now because laptop is acting weird and I dont wanna loose all this. Ill continue shortly

Ya, my defense mode makes my wife uncomfortable as well. She understands why I do it though. It bothers her just as much to see people doing things like that, but she does not like confrontation. If your family is anything like her, they dont like it, but when its over, they praise you and are proud that you defended the pack! In the heat of the moment they are uncomfortable, but when telling the story to friends or family they will describe you as if you were a valiant knight in shining armor defending the families honor. My wife cracks me up because as much as she would not confront anybody in a situation like that, she will be quick to point out something to me knowing that It will trigger my defense mode, then she just sits back and watches me do my thing. I just do not tolerate nonsense, especially when its from an adult.

My younger brother is by far the most aggressive person in Disney ive ever seen. I have watched him stand next to a CM after Wishes and start yelling at the entire crowd, "PEOPLE, dont stand in the walkway with your stroller, you are causing a problem!!" He has had several CM's thank him for saying what they are not allowed to. His pet peeve is the families who try and push closer to see the fireworks or parade at the last minute. He has an entire spiel he goes into which is extremely condescending and insulting, but it works and usually the other people around will chime in to back him up.

Your idea for a cab is probly the best solution. @lentesta has a great podcast on wdwtoday.com and he experimented with Uber around the property on a trip last year and it came out far cheaper than taxis for the most part. Definitely worth alisten

This is another positive reason for the values. Individual Lines with switchbacks. I wish more resorts would do this.

We try and avoid the buses if possible. We prefer the Boardwalk Resorts (BC, YC, BW) simply because you can walk to Epcot and HS and even if we go to MK we will walk through Epcot and take the monorail. Yes, that takes much longer than waiting for the bus, but we just drink from the International gateway up to the front. We only take bus to MK for rope drop or to AK

Bloody keyboards are no fun. lol!

You have taken people watching to an art form. I need to learn from your approach and enjoy the entertainment value rude people provide.

I cannot imagine waiting in a line like that - especially with young children!

Great update.

You hit the nail on the head with starbucks!! OMG. We watched this lady (who ordered after us) stand up at the pick up counter and block the entire counter while waiting for her drink. She too wouldn't move when people came up for their drinks. Ugh. its' so rude!!!

and I couldn't stand that stuff with the busses. That happened to us at AKL, and I'm guessing because there was only one bus stop. When we stayed at CBR this year we never had ANY problems because there were like 5-6 stops so they weren't overly crowded.

Day 3 contd......

After JC, we hit POTC since we were in the area and had some time before our 7DMT FP. It was still fairly early and the lines were not that bad. We probly ride POTC and HM the most when we visit MK. They are just fun, easy, classic rides that never get old, (for us at least).

Goofing around in the shop
20151018_110450.jpg

My ball and chain...with a ball and chain, lol

20151018_110524.jpg

We had a great ride on Pirates and about 20 minutes to spare until our FP for mine train. Our preference at MK is to start in Frontierland and work our way back to Tomorrowland. Weve never put much thought into it, it just sort of evolved over the years that way.

We only took one picture at 7DMT
20151018_111959.jpg

7DMT is a fun ride, I believe they could have done so much more with the ride and with FLE as a whole, but we enjoy it still. There are a few hidden mickeys there we have yet to find and we will not cheat and look it up even if it takes us a few more trips to find them. We still havent found the hidden Oswald either.

Next up is People Mover. This is another one that we will ride every time. Its a great way to give your feet a rest and just enjoy the scenery. My younger sister and brother and I would ride it multiple times as kids. My younger sister passed away seven years ago and the last trip we went to WDW together was around 1997. We visited dozens of times together between as kids and there are certain attractions like People Mover, SSE, and TGMR that we would ride multiple times and those are the memories that are still very vivid for me. Its crazy because when I ride something like People Mover now, I dont get on thinking about my baby sister but occasionally when we ride it I will get a jolting flashback from my past of my brother, sister and I doing something silly as we rode, like switching seats while the ride was in motion or waving really crazy at the other cars passing by. Its not just a simple memory recall either, it will be something I didnt remember or forgot about and its extremely detailed. I know thats her way of letting me know shes there. As kids we loved to stay at Port Orleans FQ and we spent countless hours in the pool. I have yet to go there and visit it since our last trip together because I know I will cry like a baby. I will do it one day though.

So back to the trip...

Dont you just love when you catch that big goofy smile on camera! She is not a fan of coasters or fast rides so People Mover always makes her happy and she loves seeing the castle from above ground level.

After PP, we had FP for Buzz. Of course it broke down several times as we waited but we are used to thatby now.

After Buzz we decided to stroll around MSUSA and then head back to the room for lunch (and beer of course).

As we got to the main area we passed the Fire Chief and got a picture. So glad we ran into him and he even let me hold the ax!!

Then we got a picture with this lady. Not sure what her name is, does anybody know?

After browsing around the shop we decided to catch the bus instead of monorail to Epcot (which we normally do, then walk back to Beach Club). But since we had a lunch ressie at Biergarten we figured best to go straight to the room. Glad we did because we met the nicest couple who had their grandson with them. It was their first time at WDW with him and they were so excited. We had great chat with them on the way back. He fell asleep and they asked if we would mind taking a picture of it because they wanted all the memories theycould get on film. They were so nice. I took a picture of my wife taking a picture of them, lol

Next up will be lunch at Beirgarten, a little food and wine, and we even meet a celebrity!!!
