Food presentation...

I totally agree with you, it definitely does not matter as much what those food and wine festival treats look like. But I have to say that those cheesy raviolis looked fine to me, a gooey pile of melted mozz? Yes please! My filet looked pretty sloppy at Cali Grill compared to your photo. Did I cry about it? Nope, licked that plate clean it was amazing.
Mine, I got more of that delicious tomato butter!

Seriously, anyone who has their whole meal/day ruined because their food was not as "presented" as they would have liked have a big stick up their you know what. Some people are just like that and if they comment about it to you, then you just have to shrug it off. I personally focus on the fact that we are grateful that we do not go hungry like so many people do that honestly presentation is not a big focus of our lives.

...and that's my whole point. Is it going to ruin your day/meal, are you never going to go back to Disney again? All stuff people have said over some Food and Wine presentations...

This ^^^ It's paramount for food to look appetizing, but for a plate of food, based on its appearance, to *ruin a person's day*, there is definately other issues going on.

I'm a smeller.....let me clarify. I do enjoy a lovely presentation but I'm all about the smell before I dig in. They say you see your meal first but smell it second and taste it last. If it looks pretty, that's nice, but if it smells amazing and tastes equally as amazing.......heaven!!

While it may not ruin my meal, if I'm paying more than 20 bucks for a plate of food and it comes out looking like a mess, I would wonder what other corners have been cut. Much like walking into a hotel room and finding the bed looking like the sheets were just pulled back up after the previous guest checked out instead of being replaced and properly made. At a ten buck plate of BBQ place, sure I'd expect the food to just kinda be slopped on the plate. But with 2 "tastes" at F&W running into that same price range for a few bites of food, at least pretend to care about the food being served and properly plate it.

I think we are talking about two different kinds of experiences. First, if you are at a sit down restaurant there is some sense of "expectation" on presentation. Doesn't have to be a piece of art, but neat is usually enough for me, especially if the food tastes good. I've also had nicely presented items that tasted like garbage. Second, and more to your point, at F & W I don't expect my food to be on fine china and have everything perfect. The Steak from Argentina is a great example. It is NOT presented well at all, but it's amazing. I'm not expecting food from a kiosk to be presented in a great way, just want it to taste good. Same thing with the wine part of it. I'm drinking wine from plastic glasses for cryin' out loud, it doesn't stop me from enjoying!! So to actually answer your question, no, my meal, day, life isn't ruined because it wasn't presented nicely.

You know what is funny?

People post TONS of food pictures on here. What is the most common response? - "That looks amazing/awesome/soooo good I have to try it". Apparently looks matter.


I run the gamut with food, nuke leftover pasta in a tupperware container, dunp in a can of tuna, and some bottled italian dressing and I will eat it right out of the tupperware. I also eat much much finer fare. So, will a sloppy plating job ruin a meal for me? No, it will not ruin it, but it can most assuredly impact y enjoyment of it. I for one thing that some of the plating at Food and Wine is pretty sloppy. I am not talking about doing some fancy presentation, but can you not just slop the sample into the cup?

If I am at a table service restaruant, expecially a signature, I expect decent presentation. Quite honestly, it is not hard to do, and it adds very little to the cost (or time to prepare)

I think the most important thing to discuss in terms of food presentation is that food pictures should not be taken halfway through a meal. However messy the original presentation was, it's always messier when it's half eaten, and I have no desire to look at that.
