Food poisoning

I got food poisoning at HS and went to first aid and the 2 people at the desk just said, "what do you want us to do about it"? Umm, first aid, let me use your bathroom, etc. I had taken the bus there and there was no way that I would make it back on the bus. I went to guest services and explained the situation ( I do not use any kind of ride share at home) and they were very nice and one of the cast members drove me back to my room. I was surprised that first aid, of all places, was so rude. And my food poisoning was 100% caused by Disney because I had nothing but Disney food for 8 days before that.

Unfortunately this isnt true. We just got back from our honeymoon. We first went to california, mexico, and then disney world for a few days. This last Saturday we ate at Beaches and Cream for lunch. I started feeling sick about 6 hours later. I started vomitting/diarrhea. This went through the night and morning becoming severely dehydrated. Sunday, which was also my birthday, my wife went down to guest services and all they did was give us 2 flyers. 1 for an urgent care, 1 for an in call dr( starts at $200 just to get him to your resort). I chose urgent care. Sat there for 2 hours until being called back just to be told they didnt have IV bags and needed to transport me to the hospital (severely dehydrated at this point). Even though the hospital was only 4 min away, they called an ambulance because of how dehydrated I was. Got 2 liters of iv fluid, not enough bc my urine was still dark brown. Gave me a 3rd liter and two rounds of zofran for the vomitting and by 4 am I was finally back at the resort having to get up at 6 am for our flight. Guest services said a manager would call sun evening. Its tues morning and nothing, which is fine bc I dont want anything from them. But they dont take great care of you, that's false. They hand you some info and send you on your way. And it def was food poisoning, the urgent care dr and ER dr both diagnosed it, and a CT of my stomach while it was injected with iodine confirmed it.

- "Food poisoning" is not a diagnosis. It is a layman's term for food borne illness that is caused by a virus, bacteria, or toxic substance.
- It is impossible to know from a CT of your stomach which of those caused the illness
- It is impossible for a person to identify the source of food borne illness from one case. Even when there are outbreaks with multiple cases and extensive resources put into identifying the source, it is very difficult (sometimes impossible) to do so
- Remember that the incubation period between exposure and symptoms is between 2 and 72 hours. Correlation between timing of symptoms and a recent meal tells you nothing about source.
- Even if you got the illness from exposure that occurred at Beaches and Cream, it is impossible to know whether it was a problem with the kitchen or if you simply touched a surface that another sick guest had touched

First off, to the OP I am sincerely sorry that you had and your husband had to go through this. I am a Student Nurse and from reading your original post I do have a few questions about the original post. You said that you were travelling with a party of 12. Were you and your husband the only ones to get sick? If so, did that mean you and he were the only ones in the party that had the burger? You also stated that the burger seemed luke warm at best and cold inside. Well, this should not be much of an issue as many people eat burger meat raw with onions even though I would not advice that, but it is done. Plus many people eat burgers rare which I have seen blood run out of the burger. So that should not have been the issue. Now the meat itself could have easily been bad for sure and for you to know that, well you wouldn't have. As stated in other posts on average most cases of food poisoning does not happen that quickly, but certainly it can. The food can hit your stomach and your stomach does not want to tolerate it and you expel it out in any manner. That is actually a good thing your body is doing although you are feeling miserable while it is happening. As for reporting the issue it is good that you did even though not much can be done about it other than they might do closer checks on the meat in the future. I do however hope this didn't ruin several days of your vacation.

"Hand Rail Snot Poisoning".

Especially now? Go on a Ride? Touch a Handrail? Play with the deadly interactive junk in the HM Graveyard Queue?

I'll change my mind when I see CMs with Bleach Spray bottles hitting those queues three times per day....

Yea food poisoning isnt diagnosed, I'll used the actual term they used which was enteritis, which was diagnosed. Which is most commonly from food or water contamination. That along with the timeline and all of my symptoms both doctors came to the conclusion it was food poisoning, or if you would like to be exact- enteritis

enteritis just means inflammation in the intestine. It can have many causes.

regardless, you have no way of knowing what the source was for your food borne illness

In general, The Backlot Express is my least favorite counter service. I've had a few skeptical items there.

Just want to make sure you know there's a difference between what you called raw hamburger and getting a cold burger from a counter service place.

The "burger meat raw with onions" is formally known as steak tartare, and is usually freshly chopped from a premium cut of meat that has been properly handled and hygienically prepared. Even your "bloody burger" should be served piping hot after being heated to the proper serving temperature.

But a cold burger from a counter service joint has not been properly prepared or stored, or it wouldn't be cold. And because it's cold, you'd have no idea how long it has been since it was reheated (most counter service meals are par-cooked and then shipped to the serving location for reheating just prior to service). How long does it take significant levels of bacteria to multiply on food kept below 140 degrees F? Well, being a student, you can appreciate that Michigan State University tells folks to: Use a food thermometer to verify temperatures. Never leave food in the “Danger Zone” over 2 hours. The “Danger Zone” is the temperature range between 40 and 140 F in which bacteria can grow rapidly. To keep food out of the Danger Zone, keep cold food cold, at or below 40 F, and hot food hot, at or above 140 F.

That is exactly where I got my food poisoning. I knew it too because the food tasted "off". I only ate a few bites and threw it away but the damage was done.

I like to look at it as an inexpensive, involuntary cleanse.

Were the items "skeptical" or questionable? Maybe it is food that fails to believe the poster that makes one sick or maybe it is food with an evil intent.

I am going with it's a case of nasty workers. More then likely, mine was norovirus because it came on fast and I have had that before. I don't know why it's so hard to wash your hands. But I just got back from a trip last month and noticed many people not washing their hands after using the toilet. I just don't get it.

I can still hear my mom (in my head, many years later)) telling us wash your hands after using the bathroom, was your hands before supper. It is all how you are brought up.
