Flying US Airways?

I have never used us airways but it looks like we will be using them in April. We will have a 30 minute stop in Philadelphia to change planes. Will this be enough time to get from one us plane to another? Never flown from Philadelphia either.

Wow, I'm impressed, a 30 minute layover in Philly. Anytime I fly through there, I get to sit for about 3-4 hours.

If you're changing planes and both gates are in the same terminal, you might be OK. But if you're switching from a smaller, regional plane (Terminal F) to a long-distance jet (Terminal A or B), forget it. You probably won't make a 30-minute connection. Look up the status of those flights each day for a couple days and you can get a sense of which terminal they use for each flight.

Though one good thing about the yellow DME luggage tags is that even if your bags are delayed, they're still routed to Disney when they get to Orlando. So if you check in and head out to the parks, you may be unaware that your bags took a couple extra hours to get to Orlando because they're just sitting in your room when you get back. (The tell-tale sign of delayed bags are additional routing/plane stickers on the bag)

I think there's a site that shows which gates individual flights go to. Something like flight tracker I think. That's what I used to look up my info.

You will make it, they will hold your flight if your flight arrives a few minutes late, most airlines follow a 20 minute rule, if your connection falls to less than 20 minutes due to schedule changes, they would change one of your flights. I have never in any airport (and I have been to many including Philly) needed more than 20 minutes. If the airline knows they are waiting for someone who has already checked in from a previous flight for a connection, they will hold it a bit.

I have flown US Air out of Philly many times with no issues. However, a 30 minute layover just isn't enough time imo. Always try to give yourself so time in case your first flight is delayed. We aim for 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour layovers.

Every single time I've flown USAirways there is been some sort of problem, mechanical in two cases. One canceled the other delayed. Another time some major overbooking.
I HAVE to fly them because they're our company's 'preferred airline', but when I'm traveling for personal reasons - Southwest all the way.

@lunchbox1175 are you sure about your info? It has been my experience that they do not wait, even if you are on the same airline. I agree that if you are flying the same airline, and the gates are reasonably close, 20 minutes would probably be enough. But, if you happen to be on a regional jet, or one of your flights is the first leg of an international route, you could end up on terminals far apart (think LAX, ATL or some of the other large US airports).

I've not flown in/out of Philly, so I really can't comment on that airport.

Personally, I would check each airport for their recommended minimum connection times and stick by that and not take any chances.

The last 5 flights that I have been on we stayed at the gate due to waiting on connecting passengers. They can easily make up the time in the air, so they usually aren't worried about waiting an extra 10 minutes.

The last time I was on US Airways in Phily, I had 1 hour to change planes. We arrived 15 minutes late and than sat twenty feet or so from our gate waiting for a ground crew. Wait 30 minutes and missed my next flight.

You know I used to sweat that, but now I drop the extra $12.95 for the early bird and I'm usually in the first boarding group.
Check two free bags, super cheap flights, 6:30am flight from BDL to MCO. You can't beat Southwest.

We did the Early Bird deal in September and it was nice. We were 20-23 so we had our choice of great seating. Toss in 2 free bags and a direct flight to Orlando from Memphis at 10:30 am, yes please!
