Flying US Airways?

I have never used us airways but it looks like we will be using them in April. We will have a 30 minute stop in Philadelphia to change planes. Will this be enough time to get from one us plane to another? Never flown from Philadelphia either.

But sometimes they don't hold them

It all depends on passenger load, whether they have seats to accommodate people on the next flight and how long it is until the next flight. And also whether there are any other people on the second flight who would then miss *their* connecting flights at the next airport if the flight is held. (They're not going to hold a flight for 2 people if holding it will then make 10 people miss their next flight.)

If the airline itself is offering that as a single ticketed itinerary, then you should be able to make the connection. They won't purposely let you book something you cannot make. That said, the expectation is that you high tail it from point A to point B, do not pass Go, do not use the restroom, don't stop for food, and hope your luggage makes it. If they do let you book it, then they should reschedule your connection if you miss it. So if it is earlier in the day on a route with multiple flights, not a huge deal, but if the connection is the last flight out of the day, I wouldn't risk it.

I've had other passengers clap after running through the airport to make my connection, and I've also had to be the guy from the back trying to make his way out of the plane before his turn to catch a connection.

My DS and I flew US Airways to FL from DCA. It was non stop. The flight attendants were great. They offered "upgraded" seats but basically you just got to board early, there was no additional leg room like other airlines offer. A lot depends on the type of aircraft you have but it was fine and I am flying them again next week to SAV. Hopefully it will be the same experience. The issues I had were from an airport staff perspective. They broke my stroller which was gate checked and in a gate check bag. No one offered me help to carry the car seat and stroller to the gate door until I an elderly woman in a wheel chair helped. She scolded the desk agent for not helping and he carried everything down for me. They also don't let families with kids board early. As for a 30 min lay over...its going to be tight but flight attendants do know who has connecting flights and they will notify the next flight. You can see if there is anything they can do to get you off the plane first to help expedite getting you to your connecting flight. I have never flown through Philly either so I don't know the airport layout. If you have to change terminals, you might not make it. I would call the airport or the airlines and see if they can give you any info. And let them know when you board you have a connecting flight. Good luck!
