I think my daughter and I have decided to eat here on our trip next summer, we ate at California Grill last trip and loved it, how does the Flying Fish measure up. Also, is it quicker to take the bus from Epcot to Boardwalk or take a boat?

There is no bus from Epcot to Boardwalk. You simply exit through the international gateway near France and you'll arrive at FF in about 10 minutes.

I love FF. Great food, great service. I'm eating there in December again because it will be closed for most of 2016 like Bob said.

Flying Fish is my favorite restaurant on property. The food is fantastic. You won't be able to eat there next summer due to the refurbishment, but once it reopens if you plan on returning to WDW at any point I highly recommend going.

Food is great.... Really is...Service is great... My only knock is the room design creates a very very loud dinning room....I still love it but not the most romantic place which is not an issue since you are going with your daughter...

Yep I agree with that. Hopefully the refurb will address that.

Thanks. Ever walked from Epcot? Wondering how long it takes or should we just take the boat?
Personally the walk from the International Gateway to the Boardwalk takes me around 5-10 minutes, however I consider myself a fast walker and for others it might take them a bit longer. Now if you wanted to take the boat it should be mentioned that once it leaves the International Gateway the Boardwalk is the first stop. So if you see it there chances are it will be faster than walking. However in the end you can't go wrong with either choice.

The only times when there is a bus from Epcot to the Boardwalk is if the boats are not operating due to heavy rain and lightning in the area. Last month when I stayed at the Boardwalk and was returning on several occasions after a huge thunder storm, I saw a bus that said it was going to Epcot.

We also found it very loud. The last time we were at WDW, we ate at three signatures: Flying Fish, Yachtsman and Narcoosees. Flying Fish had good food, but we enjoyed it less than the other two due to the noise. It also seems like more of a family oriented restaurant as there were lots of young children when we went.

Our take away was that Flying Fish was the type of place you take your kids to, whereas some of the other signatures are better suited for couples dining. The refurb may address the noise and negate this, however.

Yep that was my take.

Obviously it depends on several variables: where you are seated, what time of day, and how many misbehaved children (as opposed to good little kiddies) are around.

We've been twice. Once was for our 4-year anniversary back in 2011, so that's going to help color it as a better experience right off the bat. No issues with kids, and we were seated in the nice bright open area not too far from the bar. The food was outstanding and that signature dish of potato wrapped snapper is not to be missed. Personalized wine pairings (one of the bartenders is a friend of a friend) and we could not ask for more. Probably our single best meal ever at WDW.

The second time, we were seated (as I remember it) in a darker back area with a lower ceiling and the tables much closer together. There were kids around, but they were fine. Sometimes adults are worse lol. Food was consistently excellent, service was excellent (without our contact being there) and that solidified our love and high praise for FFC.

My guess is the name "Flying Fish Cafe" implies a certain level of casualness, and the decor a certain level of whimsy. The place doesn't really match the name IMO. It's casual fine dining, but "cafe" implies even more casual IMO. So maybe people behave accordingly.

Don't get me wrong, I like that the atmosphere is not "stuffy." I felt a little out of place at Monsieur Paul (I didn't know at first how the bread service worked LOL) and I felt like I had to be a little more "proper" at Yachtsman steakhouse (although in this case our waiter put us at ease instantly.) That was a little bit of an odd experience what with the juxtaposition of the entrance being right off the pool area of the resort.

A nicely redone dining area has huge potential. But I don't remember ever finding it "loud." Again, I'm sure it depends a lot on the luck of the draw of when you arrive and who else is there.

.
I never really thought the name set the tone for the restaurant, but maybe it does.... It's still signature and expensive so I don't think it should be a circus.... I've never had bad children there or any issues... It's just really really loud...

The walk from the International Gateway to the Flying Fish is right around 1/3 of a mile.
If you're in EPCOT on the Future World side of the World Showcase Lagoon, it's actually a shorter walk to the Flying Fish than it is to the EPCOT bus stops.

Well, I guess I'm in the extreme minority because I don't like the FF at all. I agree it is VERY loud, but I also found the food to be only decent and the portions to be quite SMALL. The service was fine, but nothing to write home about either. For my money, FF would rank right at the very bottom of the list of signature restaurants.

Just my $.02.

That's surprising. Do you remember what you ordered?
