Flying dragon

What if the dragon "returns" and makes a nest in a cave under SDMT similar to in DLP with the castle? I've always thought of that
I also thought that SDMT might have a nest somewhere around it for the famed dragon!! Have it sleeping in a nest or something and if he is ever going to make an appearance in the park make him disappear that day!

It was not originally designed for any US park. FLE got it due to a realisation they needed a media campaign to boost the poorly accepted FLE plans and that they had no idea how to generate any buzz for FLE. And in some respects it backfired spectacularly.
Just a bizarre decision. New Fantasyland utilizes classic, popular Disney characters. Hello? Beauty and her Beast. Belle and her crew. Dumbo. Ariel. Snow. Heck, even bring in Rapunzel from her toilets. I mean tower. Er...you get my drift. Y'know, where were they? It's their section, make the splash about them. Why bring in a disconnected "dragon" with no story except for this lame we're trying too hard to make this viral campaign about a dragon that no one could figure out. Really bad choices. And if you don't have a clue how to generate buzz for your expansion and you're the marketing execs for a major theme park, how do I say this gently...um, you should be looking elsewhere for employment. And bring in marketing execs from other divisions to give ideas. There's no shortage of very talented marketing brains within the Disney organization.

I think marketing simply opted for a dragon because the option was there. I suppose the idea and technology was simply floating around at the time, was sitting high on a pile on a desk.

I for one think a flying dragon is totally aprpriate to FL! FL isn't 'collection of elements lifted from the animation canon'. It is a world of it's own. For similar reasons, I think a Bavarian hillside town with skyway is entirely fitting, despite Snow White never having visited one. In fact, I find additions like 'Rapunzel's village' a complete thematic intrusion to the larger theme of FL, which is not derived from the canon.

Mostly though, let's remember that DLP has a dragon in the castle, and it's the coolest thing of the entire park! A flying dragon simply ooowwnnnss!!
Sorry, gonna disagree here. Doesn't happen often, but, first for everything. ;)

Everybody at these boards beg for original, non-preexisting, attractions. Now you don't want any?

I'm all for original attractions! That's employment for me. ;) However, this wasn't an attraction, as it isn't anything accessible to guests, nor is it even more than a one time thing. It's a marketing gimmick, and to me, it was the wrong marketing gimmick to use when thinking about story. Not a huge deal in the scheme of things, but just an instance where Disney could have done better, IMHO. If the company wants to engineer a new attraction with dragons, great! Do it, and then bring in this flying dragon. That would make sense.
