I'd love to see a new show similar to Animal Actors on Location at Universal... But better. Why not? The one at universal is probably gonna close anyways.

Lets get some dog tricks to go WITH those birds! And cats and monkeys and rats and pigs and such! Cmoooon! ALL THE ANIMALS :D

I don't think Disney would touch that with a ten-foot-pole at this point. Animal "actors" are a very controversial topic right now, especially for stunts and such.

As another side thought about the fast passes for this. I think it’s great because it will draw attention to a show that deserves to be seen.

I’m also curious how late this show will run into the evening. I noticed in @wdwmagic photo update that there is small lights being added around the exterior of the facade. I’m guessing there is some restrictions on how long you can work the birds each day and that the lights are just for thematic purposes for the exterior in the evening after it’s closed.

Flights of Wonder was a damn good show! If you have FP+ for Lion King and Nemo shows in DAK then why not this? I get it, those are essentially wasted Fast Passes, but for someone who knows better, I'm not against giving people more options to waste their FP so I can get what I want.

"Honey, should we do Flight of Passage or the UP! Bird Show?"

Suckers!!

I've learned recently that during heavy crowd days... A FP+ for those shows and even Fantasmic! are actually pretty nice if you want good seating.

The only one it doesn't ever work for me is Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. But you can bet your butt I'd much rather watch Indiana Jones and Fantasmic! NOT from the sides.

Nah it's not. Not for birds, dogs, pigs, and cats. Elephants and lions? Of course. Yes. Especially in circus conditions.
Animal Kingdom tends to focus on animals living normally in the wild. I don't see them incorporating domestic animals. I find the Sea World Animal Actors show pretty tacky and corny, even if some of the dogs were cute.

Does anyone with some historical zoo/ animal park knowledge know whether Flights of Wonder originated its doors-and-walls bird show format or was it an adaptation of similar shows that existed before? I ask because it always reminded me of a similar, though smaller-scale bird and raptor show performed at Dollywood. Both have been around for many years but I have no idea which came first.
Great question. It is often third party show companies such as Natural Encounters creating them for many different parks and festivals.

The show evolved a bit to add Guano Joe, but the focus has always been "natural behaviors". Variants of the "natural behavior" style bird shows are in zoos around the world.

I just watched a video of it. The timing of Dug and Russell's audio was bad (to be expected during a preview), but the show is remarkably disjointed.

Anika is the new host and she seems like she was a character in Rivers of Life at times and just an animal trainer at other times. Russell and Dug are meant to be the comedic foils but it doesn't fit.

This show needs to go back to the drawing board.

It's not all bad though, there are some new bird acts that they're trying out. They regularly introduce new acts, but it's nice to see that the actual bird part is continually evolving.
