Flights changed without notice?

We already have airline reservations with AirTran for our trip next month. So recently I hopped online to check on our flights, and I noticed that our flights have been changed! We had not received any notification of this so I called AirTran directly and their rep confirmed that the online flight info was correct.

We are extremely pleased with the new flights (they are non-stop... our original flights had a layover in Atlanta) but we are also concerned because we now have to make sure our ME info gets corrected.

Does this happen all the time?

Yep, that is the same flight then. I am sure you will notice us. We will be the ones more then likely chasing a 4 year old and a 1 year old around.

As a frequent business flyer (AA Platinum) I can say you have to assume your flight will change without notice. In the case of my business flights, they're typically booked only 1 week in advance and therefor are only changed due to weather. Delays can be for any reason. However, I always check business flights the night before and vacation flights a few times prior.

As far as advanced ticketing for vacations, as stated earlier by someone, the further out you book, the more likely fine tuning of the schedules are. Our vacation in Sep-Oct was changed. As we are traveling on weekdays, the demand (or lack of) can change anything from the schedule to the plane type. We went from an MD80 both ways to a 757. However, I did have to work with AA as our original flight home was cancelled and we were put on a much later flight. An earlier flight was reinstated but we were not moved back as we had confirmed seats on the later. Thus, I had to work with the AA rep to get it corrected. In a case like that, you should have no problem changing.

Just remember a few things to get better results (if you're not a frequent traveler). Investigate all you can on-line first as things are easier when you know the complete impact to your plans. Second, be as polite to the airline reps as possible. They get abused quite a bit from people that don't understand the system or that are encountering serious issues traveling elsewhere. They can make things very difficult if their day is going poorly and you jump on them and makes demands. (i.e. Your region may be beautiful and sunny, but severe weather elsewhere means they might be experiencing a flood of calls from stranded passengers.)

This happened to me with Delta a couple days ago. My flights in Sept got totally new flight numbers and times. I only caught it because I am afraid of getting bumped!:lookaroun

Last year Delta changed my flights 5 times and I started with a with layovers no longers that 40 minutes and ended up with 2 hrs 30 min by the end. They would not give any refund and this put me home late for an appointment. All of this was done without any notification at all even though they said that notification is one of their policies.:(

I exclusively fly Delta and am a mediallion level member with them. They have a policy with schedule changes, where 1) They will rebook you on the same dates to new flights which are suitable for you, 2)Allow you to change to new airports within 100 miles of the original airports, or, if those two options don't satisify you, 3) Refund the ticket.

Again this site helps me out. I was just reading about all these problems you all have had and decided, hmm, maybe I should check our flight. Sure enough, Delta has changed everything, again. Now, I had specific seats assigned for us because my husband is a quad. and can't stay in that "aisle chair" as they call it, for long without falling out. Yes it has happened. Our seats were all messed up, and then they gave me a really hard time about seating my young children with me. Long story short, and hour and a half later our seats are now set. The rest of the people in our party are spread all over the plane, but at least we are in a safe place for my husband and our kids are with us. I really hope that we stay with this info until Dec. I don't want to go through this again(3rd time). Plus everytime they change it our flights get later and later. I now have a whole hour less in Disney. :(
