Flights changed without notice?

We already have airline reservations with AirTran for our trip next month. So recently I hopped online to check on our flights, and I noticed that our flights have been changed! We had not received any notification of this so I called AirTran directly and their rep confirmed that the online flight info was correct.

We are extremely pleased with the new flights (they are non-stop... our original flights had a layover in Atlanta) but we are also concerned because we now have to make sure our ME info gets corrected.

Does this happen all the time?

I travel alot, and have had this happen on several times. Most recently for my upcoming trip to WDW.

If you don't have an on-line profile, chances are you won't get contacted. I am my email and phones listed and usually get some sort of response.

First of all, welcome!
I've never flown with AirTran, so I can't answer your question, but I would advise you to call the Disney reservation number and make sure that they know the changes.

Have a magical trip - I read that you're doing a "last family trip" soon. e did that in May, and it was fabulous! Feel free to PM me for advise!

It happens...

Lucky for you that the changes went in your favor. It could have been worse. We fly Spirit out of Atlantic City and they change their flight information frequently, we don't concern ourselves until we are within a two-week window of the trip. Just be sure to check with them again as your travel date approaches. Be sure that the airline has your email and phone number to contact you in case of further changes.

It can be disappointing to have changes made without you knowing, but as a Philadelhia resident it can't be any more disappointing then being a fan of the Phillies, Flyers, Sixers or Eagles!!! :brick:

Last year Delta changed my flights 5 times and I started with a with layovers no longers that 40 minutes and ended up with 2 hrs 30 min by the end. They would not give any refund and this put me home late for an appointment. All of this was done without any notification at all even though they said that notification is one of their policies.:(

Yea Spirit does that alot, most times its just a short difference in the flighttime, or the name of the flight is changed. I love going out of AC!

Just a note: Glad you were able to contact DME and get it changed, but even if you were not able to, it would be no big deal. Worst Case Scenario you would have to stop by the DME desk here in orlando to inform them you've arrived early/late. As long as you have your tags in time, your luggage should be a-ok.

We usually fly Northwest, and they do this quite a bit, but we are always contacted. I would do what people have said above, and wait until about two 1/2 weeks before your trip. Then contact Disney and give them the correct information. Chances are that 2 weeks before the flight, the only changes they will make will be minor (15 - 30 min. differences.)

Besides, they have ME busses just sitting there, so if your flight is late, or bad weather stranded you somewhere, etc. you can still get ME. Don't worry - have a great trip!

I've had flights change on me before. We always confirm one day prior, though now with the internet it's a lot easier to keep an eye on things. Sure beats the old days when you had to sit on the phone.

Yeah, disappointment is a way of life for us! :brick: Thank God for our minor league teams! (Phantoms / Trenton Titans)

Thanks to all! I verified my contact info with AirTran, and they have my phone and email info correct. In fact, they did send a confirmation email to us when we paid for the tickets, so they know where we are. And I did contact my TA and she took care of our ME arrangements for us.

All this planning and confirming is just part of the fun of a Disney vacation, I guess. LOL

Delta does indeed change their flights fairly often ~ really got bad after they filed bankruptcy. The further out you book, the more chances of it happening. I usually book 6-9 months in advance and they probably change about every other month. Sometimes it's just a minute or two (which I don't get ~ what difference that is), but sometimes they are drastic changes (such as what you experienced with your delays). I've even had changes that result in the first flight arriving AFTER the connection flight leaves.
:brick:

However, Delta has always modified the changes if the new times didn't suit me. I know they won't refund any but I know they will change at no charge (neither fee nor fare difference) to different flights. I've done that quite often after they change them on me. I don't get contacted by Delta about the changes very often. I usually check my itinerary online every other week or so and realize it long before they get around to contacting me. That's when I look at what flights might be better suited and call to have them changed at that time.

What drives me crazy, is the flight changes made by Delta make the itinerary unavailable for viewing online for the affected flights (and shows no seats assigned) and doesn't allow it to be modified directly. It's frustrating to call Delta's 800 number and have to always wait on hold forever, to then tell someone you need the reissue desk, and then wait on hold again. Usually eats up about 15-30 minutes of my time to get it all taken care of. Otherwise, the flight changes are no problem.

Morale of the story, don't take for granted that your flights won't change and that the airline will contact you in a timely fashion if they do change. Be proactive and it's a less frustrating matter.

BTW, US Airways, fka America West, does the exact same thing as Delta. And I presume they all do it.

Airtran changed our flights in April....but we didn't mind at all!

The new flights were non-stop (used to have a layover) and we arrived a little earlier because of this! :sohappy:

Airtran called and lm at home phone....I tell you, I panicked when I first got the message! But the reservationist was very friendly.....since our flight had changed, she automatically changed us over to the better non-stop flight.

Flying them again in Sept.....probably should check to make sure these flights are a go!
