Flash photography + dark rides...

I take pictures ... lots of them, but learn how to photograph a dark ride people ... you don't need a strobe.

The last time we rode pirates I had a gal in front of me strobing as fast as her camera would recycle ... One time she even got me full in the face with it. I just looked at her and said please dont do that again ... which worked well because she kept doing it ... so I have a Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT ... it has enough power for a 200mm Zoom lens ... I grabbed it from my bag, turned it on and up ... and the next time she turned back twoards me I let her have it full power about 20 inches from her face.

Strange thing happened after that. She stopped taking pictures, and I was able to enjoy the rest of the ride in peace. :D
Good for you! I know people say two wrongs don't make a right, but it sure makes you feel better :)

Not speaking of flash, we were on splash mountain, at night on the top of the ride when we were stopped for almost 15 minutes while we kept hearing " please remained seated" over and over and finally " sit down!". Amazing what people try to get away with in the parks

I went on Spaceship Earth in 2011 and the whole ride up a woman was snapping pictures away external flash and all. Needless to say I was so aggravated, I kept my cool until 2 minutes into the ride she popped me right in the eyes looking around at the scenes. Yep, she heard it from me:oops:

I had a slightly similar experience. This group of Spanish(not sure which) folks were snapping flash pictures every 8-10 seconds. So, after saying "no flash" in Portuguese, and them continuing to take them, I snapped into action. I set my camera to multi-pic(or w/e it's called), set the flash to ON and every time they raised their camera I let go with about 30 snaps. Was that childish, sure. But it felt good and made a few people on our boat chuckle.

I have the strongest disdain for people who do this... once by accident it's ok, your bad... but again and again and again
I'm glad you said what you did because theres alot of rides where I assumed it was okay if a Cm didn't say anything or an announcement wasn't made, but i recently found out thats not the case so now I have no idea where you can and where you can't.

Well, if it is not in ancient Klingon then I do not have to pay attention to any warnings or announcements or signs. They have them in Spanish, but not in Klingon, that is racist!o_O:)

You should not use a flash in any ride or show building. It is just annoying to others.

Don't ever use a flash on a dark ride, ever

I personally feel that taking a picture/video on a ride is not needed. Every ride is on YouTube. Also, pictures of the parks/rides are on the internet. Some people are wasting their time by taking certain pictures (Epcot globe, etc)

So, take hundreds of photos, that's fine, but when it comes to ride photos, I don't see the point.

Riding The Great Movie Ride in September, a family in front of us (all armed with cameras) were taking pictures before it even started and the CM kindly told them No Flash Photography. Well they continued shooting their pictures ALL the way thru the ride and neither were they told again to stop or the ride itself stop. It became very annoying for all those around them. Some people are just mindless...

It is a waste of time because people are flashing away and what they come away with sucks. I see people flashing iphones on dark rides, I just have to facepalm. Ruin everyone elses experience so you can post you AWFUL image on instagram!

I was at Pirates on Saturday and we were in line in the queue. A CM started announcing to everyone over the speakers both in the ride and in the queue that there was NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY allowed. He went on to say no flash in the ride OR the queue. He said to turn off your flash if you want to take a picture. I never heard them make a spontaneous announcement in the queue and especially not specifically mentioning no flash in the queue as well as the ride.

(Nobody around me was taking pics but I assume it must have gotten bad somewhere else because the CM sounded HIGHLY annoyed. LOL)

I'm no photographer, but I feel like anyone who owns a camera should know very basic concepts like, if a ride is happening in the dark, chances are that is the way its meant to be seen. Therefore taking flash photos of it will obviously result in crappy pictures. I mean, everyone has a digital camera nowadays, you can see the picture you take immediately afterwards, I don't know why they don't realize how bad it looks and shut the flash off. Not to mention its incredibly rude and annoying, and if there are announcements/cast members repeatedly saying "No Flash Photography" there is no excuse.

What does everyone think about rides that are stuck?

I took one of Little Leota after about five minutes. :). I'd have done it sooner if I'd thought of it sooner. Now, when I'm stuck for more than a minute, I take a pic...if I'm stuck near anything worth snapping.

I don't know how everyone else feels about it, but I would have done the same thing...

And some CM's are just spineless. There is no excuse for one family to ruin the ride for all the others on the tram. They had been given a warning & refused to listen. There is nothing wrong with a CM having the courage to evict someone for not following the posted rules. Posted rules become laughable when they are not enforced, and make the problem worsen over time. Sure, that one family may get upset when asked to leave for continued flash photography. They might even write guest relations complaining about how Disney doesn't allow them to do whatever the hell they want despite posted rules. But I guarantee you, that CM would've gained a lot more respect from the other guests on the ride had something been done to ensure everyone enjoys the experience.

Yep... we were stopped for 15 minutes too when a child was standing up just before the big lift hill! I just don't get it!

If your ride was honestly ruined due to flash photography, you can talk to a CM and they will usually allow you to re-ride it. Due to the security cameras, they are aware of it. One picture will not ruin an experience, but when a ton of people are annoyed (like on Soarin') the CMs are aware.

I think the situation with Pirates has gotten really bad.

It's why when I last when on I did it first thing after rope drop. Had the whole place to myself and I assume was the first one to ride that day.
