When I was on Peter Pan today, during the flying over London scene, several of the people in front of us were taking flash pictures (It was pretty annoying) and immediately after the ride jolted to a stop and the announcement came on. I've heard that flash photography interferes with rides' security systems and sets off sensors, is this true? I've been curious if that was the cause of the stop.

I have no idea about the security systems or sensors. I do know you've just opened a can of worms... lol!
Worms...what worms? ;)

More than likely if you didn't hear an announcement about this or see CM's get the people off the ride with a cherry-picker then the stoppage was something on the load/unload belt.

Or the touchy subject of those feeling entitled.

I have a feeling that this case was more for a guest assistance transfer would require stopping the attraction.

Whoa....is this one of those touchy subjects??? It always amazes me what gets people going on this site....haha

I figured it was common sense NOT to use flash? LOL
It's not as touchy as the scooter threads, and most people here understand what "No Flash Photography" means. It mostly gets people's blood boiling discussing stories/incidents they have witnessed.

I take pictures ... lots of them, but learn how to photograph a dark ride people ... you don't need a strobe.

The last time we rode pirates I had a gal in front of me strobing as fast as her camera would recycle ... One time she even got me full in the face with it. I just looked at her and said please dont do that again ... which worked well because she kept doing it ... so I have a Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT ... it has enough power for a 200mm Zoom lens ... I grabbed it from my bag, turned it on and up ... and the next time she turned back twoards me I let her have it full power about 20 inches from her face.

Strange thing happened after that. She stopped taking pictures, and I was able to enjoy the rest of the ride in peace. :D

I have no idea if it stops it, but people using flash is super annoying! I always always double checked that I was flash free on rides before snapping any pics!

I absolutely hate when people take flash photography especially on dark rides. I want to scream, "just enjoy the ride" :p

My parents say common sense is not so common, I think they were right. It just makes sense not to use flash: 1) You are asked not to 2) it can distract from other guests experience, just seems like the decent thing to do.

I don't understand these touchy subjects. This, the reusing the mugs on different trips, and the resort pool hopping. I think we just have a bunch of rebels that are too cool to follow the rules.(that was good natured kidding) but really we should respect eachother and try not to ruin the experience for anyone else.

Hey Gang, I got back from the World last week and had a blast. Britt, just so you know, I did think of you for a hot second in Epcot AND MK. Anywho, a few years ago on Star Tours 1.0, a woman was taking flash pictures during the ride. The ride was then stopped. The CMs came in, ID'd her in front of everyone and did a restart and allowed her to stay. Does that teach anyone a lesson? Me, I would have kicked her @$$ out.

I don't necessarily think it sets off anything but the flash photography does screw up the infrared lighting systems that are used throughout every dark ride to keep an eye on it's passengers. Flashes essentially white out the infrared camera and it can take a few seconds to recover depending on the amount of lighting used in the attraction itself.

I do wish people would refrain from making themselves glowing spectacles in dark rides. Turn off the flash. Don't bring the glow stick. Wait until it is over to check that text.

Better yet, if you know you have scaredy-cat kids or must be using your phone, just don't go into dark rides or movies.

Please. Thank you.
