Fizzle 75's FIRST TRIP REPORT!!!

Ok, just to clarify, this is my first TRIP REPORT not my FIRST TRIP report. Make sense? Good, let's move on...

Let me preface by saying that this trip did not go at all as planned due to my wife getting sick and me not feeling well either but nonetheless we had a good time just not a GREAT time. Oh well, a bad day at Disney is still better than a good day at work!

I tend to be very wordy and this report will contain lots of photos so please bear with me...
I also may have to do this in seperate segments throughout the day as I have time.

Here goes...

Saturday April 14th:

We leave our little town of Cashiers, NC and head for Greenville, SC at around 8:00am to catch our 11:45am flight. We grab a quick breakfast at McDonalds in Pickens, SC and arrive in Greenville at around 10:15. I was worried about going through security because this was my first trip with a CPAP machine since being diagnosed with Sleep Apnea around two months ago but, thankfully, everything went very fast and smoothly, they just unzipped the case that my CPAP was in and swabbed it and then let me go on my merry way. Greenville airport was dead so that helped speed things along as well.

We boarded the plane at around 11:30 and were actually lifting off of the runway at exactly 11:45. We arrived at Orlando International at around 1:00.

We have used Disney's Magical Express on every trip but this was the first time we have had any trouble. The lines for Magical Express were absolutely packed, all except for ours that is. Our line, the one for Saratoga Springs, only had seven people in it. We proceded to wait for over thirty minutes for them to let us board the Magical Express, in the meantime, the lines for all of the other resorts were moving very quickly. As you can imagine, we got a little frustrated but since all of our other Magical express experiences went very smoothly we didn't think that much of it. The girl in front of us on the other hand was absolutely having a hissy fit of epic proportions. She was causing quite the comotion and we were very embarrassed to be in the same line as her. The whole time I was thinking "if she's freaking out over a thirty minute line at the airport, she's gonna be a mental case once she gets in the parks".

We finally boarded the Magical Express and were on our way to Saratoga Springs. Just as we were reaching the resort, our bus driver(who looked very young to me and I am assuming he hadn't been driving a bus long at all) ran up on one of the curbs in a curve and got the bus stuck. After a few minutes of hitting the gas and break to rock the bus back and forth we finally got unstuck but the driver ended up severely warping several panels near the wheel well of the bus. I felt horrible for him but needless to say, the girl who was freaking out at the airport was acting like Linda Blair in the Excorcist. I'm serious, her head was spinning around and she was shooting green vomit all over the bus. It was really gross. We finally got to the main lobby of Saratoga around 2:30 or so and we got to follow Linda Blair all of the way. She was fuming and fussing all of the way to the lobby and proceded to freak out on the receptionist at the check in desk and tell her how horrible her trip had been so far. Luckily, no vomit was involved this time though. I had finally had enough so I shot her an evil look and then said " aw,come on, it wasn't that bad at all" and rolled my eyes at her. I wanted to say more but her boyfriend had two or three more muscles than I do and I didn't want to spend our vacation in a body cast. Space Mountain would have been really rough in a body cast.

ANYHOO...we finally got checked in and by that time we were famished so we went to The Artist's Pallette for lunch. It was quite good, I was surprised.
We then began to tour the resort. I must admit, I wasn't looking forward to staying at Saratoga Springs. We had went to a DVC presentation there almost exactly a year ago and weren't all that impressed. It just didn't feel like Disney to us. As we began to walk around the resort I was pleasantly suprised at how nice the resort is. True, the Disney theme isn't very strong(except for the occassional hidden mickey and pictures of all of the famous Disney horses on the wall in the main lobby) but the Equestrian theme that they are shooting for is incorporated very well into everything. It's a gorgeous place, I was quite impressed. We ended up touring the Animal Kindgom Villa that they have set up at the DVC preview center there at Saratoga. The AKL Villas look absolutely gorgeous, I can't wait. I have included a few pictures below for your viewing pleasure along with pictures of our room and pictures of Saratoga Springs Resort. We stayed in The Grandstand.

Well I suppose its more entertaining than watching videos on the bus !!!

Thanks for sharing your trip - nice photos

Ok, I'm back. At this rate, I might finish this trip report just in time to start a new one when we get back in October!

I can't remember what we did next. We either watched the Dream Along With Mickey stage show or the Share A Dream Come True parade, either way, we did them both back to back I just don't remember the order. Here are some pics of Dream Along With Mickey. I was quite excited to see this show since we never got to see Cinderellabration. I really enjoyed it but was quite disappointed that they are no longer using the animatronic(?) heads that they were testing a few months back. Anyone know how long they used them and if/when they will use them again?

Ok, now for the pics of the Share A Dream Come True parade. I was a little surprised, I didn't realize that they had altered the floats and taken the "snow globes" off of them. I think I like the new parade better than the old one.

I love parades, especially Disney parades, so I took TONS of pictures of the parade. For some reason I will take tons of pictures of the parades every single time I go, I have enough parade pictures to fill up a large photo album. I guess I keep hoping for that "perfect" shot of Pinocchio's nose or something.

Here are a few pics I snapped at some point after either the parade or stage show...

After the parade and stage show we headed over to Mickey's Toontown Fair. We had never ridden Goofy's Barnstormer and we wanted to be sure to ride it this time. We basically walked right on. I had read in the Unofficial Guide that it was pretty intense for a children's ride and is designed to be a child's introduction to roller coasters. I really enjoyed...ALL 25 SECONDS OF IT!!! I had just barely gotten my lap bar down when the ride was over, sheesh!!! All jokes aside, it's a fun ride with excellent theming it's just terribly short but I guess I understand why in light of the audience it is geared toward.

We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening in Fantasyland. We rode It's A Small World, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and we jumped over to Liberty Square to ride The Haunted Mansion. I absolutely love The Haunted Mansion(who doesn't?)and I never get sick of it. I can't wait for the refurb!:sohappy: After the Haunted Mansion we began making our way to the front of the park because we had reservations at Tony's Town Sqare for dinner. Along the way I noticed a young boy desperately trying to pull the sword from the stone(sorry, no Pic)and it made me wonder if they still do the Sword In The Stone Ceremony that I have read about. Do they? I have never seen it.

As we came through the castle I snapped some pics of the murals and then we went inside the gift shop that's inside the castle(I can't remember the name of it). I love the figurines, collectibles and paintings that they have in there. They have a golden plate on display that I absolutely love but, alas, I would have to sell a kidney in order to buy it. Below are pics of the murals and the plate...

After the gift shop we made a run for Tony's Town Square as my stomach began to slap my backbone...

We arrived at Tony's Town Square close to our reservation time of 7:15. Let me preface by saying that I wasn't expecting a whole lot from Tony's Town Square. The Unnofficial Guide didn't give it very high marks and I knew it couldn't be as good as Alfredo's. I love Lady and the Tramp, it is one of my all time favorite Disney movies and I knew the restaurant's theming was based on Lady and the Tramp so I figured that even if the meal wasn't awesome I would at least enjoy the decor and surroundings. After all, we had vowed to try some new things on this trip.

First off, let me say that the theming is beautiful, especially if you love Lady and the Tramp...BUT...the food is absolutely horrendous!!! I don't know if we just caught them on an off night or what but it was without a doubt the worst meal I have ever had on Disney property, or ANYWHERE for that matter. The appetizers weren't bad, I can't remember what they were but I remember liking them(not a good testament to the quality of the food). The meal however was horrific. We both got the Chicken Fiorentina(i think that was the name) because we both like chicken florentine and we thought it would be similiar...boy were we wrong. Now, I have never eaten a human foot...with a severe fungus...and gangrene, but I imagine it tastes something like the Chicken Fiorentina at Tony's Town Square. We both took a few bites and couldn't bring ourselves to choke down any more, it was truly aweful. I kept hoping Lady or Tramp would scamper by so I could feed it to them under the table, but it would have probably killed them and I just couldn't live with myself if I knew I had killed two of my favorite Disney characters. I think the waiter knew how bad it was because not once during our 45 minute meal did he draw attention to the fact that very little of our food was missing. The only saving grace was the dessert. They have a very good Pistachio Creme Brulee. It is now almost two weeks later and I can still taste the foot...er, I mean...food in my mouth. Despite the bad dining experience the atmosphere was good. Since the theme of the restaurant is Lady and The Tramp I am surprised they didn't have someone wandering around the dining room with an accordian playine Bella Notte. Have they ever done this in the past? Here are some pics, I especially love the statue...

After dinner, we went back to fantasy land and rode Peter Pan , Mickey's Philharmagic again and Haunted Mansion again. After that we just wandered around the shops for a few minutes and then headed back for the resort because my wife still wasn't feeling well. Her eyes were burning and itching terribly and her contacts were driving her crazy.

Oh, by the way, I meant to show this picture earlier but I forgot. The hand towel in our room was made to look like Davy Jones...at least I'm assuming it was supposed to be Davy Jones. What do you think?

Really enjoying the trip report and photos! I especially love the pics of the murals in the Castle. Those have always been a favorite of mine.

So sad about Tony's. My first meal there was back in 1994 and I just thought it was terrific for an in-park restaurant outside of the World Showcase restaurants at Epcot. So sad to hear how the quality has gone downhill. With respect to your email, did you ever figure out what was the ingredient that made it taste so bad?? I have a friend who's description of eating any meal with cilantro that sounds eerily similar to what you've described. Did your meal have prosciutto? Sometimes cheaper varieties of Prosciutto taste horrible. :hurl:

Great trip report! I have to disagree about Tony's, though. We ate there on our trip last week and both enjoyed it.

Speaking of trip reports, I'll be posting mine soon. I'm still catching up on things, and next on the agenda is giving the dog a bath. We left her with my Dad this past week and he had her in an outside pen by the shed all week, so she stinks pretty bad. The wife told me that my assignment is to give her a bath tonight. So, hopefully, once we get the baby to bed, wash the dog and finish putting everything away, I can start on my trip report.
