Fixing Epcot: Any Ideas?

I must be in the minority. I actually prefer SE with the sign. I think it shows that WDW is always trying to improve. If you haven't seen it in person, please don't judge it as it is really impressive.

And I agree with Griz.....he was just pointing towards a thread with the same topic. Otherwise we get a thread in each section to deal with the same discussion. It's less confusion this way

"Behold the majesty of the Sistine Chapel!" At least I think that's what Cronkite used to say at that spot. Now there is nothing said there. That's one of the first glaring differences I caught in the ride script after the change.
When I went back after a few years absence from WDW, I felt like I was missing something in SE. I saw DaVinci painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, but where was the ed off Mona Lisa...scowling while he played with his newest flying contraption?

Then it hit me. That was World of Motion! :brick:

Epcot used to have a consistent series of complimentary themes.
Spaceship Earth: The history and achievments of mankind throughout the ages.
Horizons: A bright outlook towards man's future accomplishments.
World of Motion: Man's history of travel and the evolution of transportation.
Universe of Energy: Mankind's use of energy sources to supply power to civilizations. And so on.
You get the point of my ramble. I think that the big picture of Epcot is gradually becoming a thing of the past in the race for new ways to entertain the masses. Test Track isn't in the epic vein of the other rides....it doesn't fit in. Mission Space will at least.

i think it would be cool if they made "Egypt" in World Showcase.. . They could have a really cool ride that can take place in a pyramid where mummies or something come out. It should be a scary ride though. That would add something really great to get more people to enjoy all the countries.

Hey, now that 's a really kewl idea .....imagine what WDW could do with some pyramids...would be pretty awesome! :sohappy:

I'm thinking more an educational/scary pavilion though...make it too flat-out frightening and people would think it was an attraction about "the Mummy"! :lol:

I like "Test Track," but I think they missed a huge opportunity to actually teach you something in the queue. All of the "info" was oversimple and could have been more filled with details on facts about stresses on cars and their materials. People who wanted to learn could, while others would just say "OK" and move on. That is what is missing from EPCOT: the actual education that used to be elegantly mixed with entertainment. This was the dedicated mission of WDW: to entertain AND enlighten. Now, the educational aspect seems only peripheral. In the long run, it is better to have both in equal measure.

And as for a bigger idea, I still believe there needs to be a "Discovery Channel" type show produced daily or weekly on ABC or ABC Family or the Disney Channel and broadcast live. It would renew Disney's empasis on learning; be cheap to produce; and be a constant commercial for the resort. A win-win-win situation. It could even take a trip to DAK every so often to feature animals. I would call it "EPCOT World of Discovery" or "EPCOT Wonderful World of Discovery" or "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Discovery." Its opening montage could actually flash past Walt talking alongside animals or his futuristic stuff as it flashes forward to the present and a vision of the future.

I would see this as breathing currency and life into EPCOT and its mission that would be relevant today.

And we all know that The Disney Channel would only have to lose one of about six daily showings of "Boy Meets World" to schedule it!

An Egypt area would rock! It should have the same ride system as the Indiana Jones ride in Disneyland except they should be archaeologists trying to go in the pyramid and send in a car to explore. In it, you should see the mummy or whatever and have to get out before the pyramid collapses.

And yes, prberk. They should make a show from EPCOT. It should be called 'Discover the Wonder'. Yes, that's EPCOT's slogan.

I often wonder if an Egypt section in World Showcase would be overlooked for political reasons. Not to get into a side discussion here, but how do we (the US) stand with Egypt right now? Surely this would have a bearing, right?

I would like to see some of the walkways widened. It seems that when your in a rush or caught in a downpoor you always get stuck by a photo op or the inevitable portly person. Disney is the master of making a circle out of a straight line.

I like the educational stuff like the land and the living seas. It would be nice to see some more learning attractions. Lord knows, the lion king theater has enough room for two living seas.

Innoventions has got to go! Get rid of the cheap business convention atmosphere that they have now. Bring back the inspiring communicore feeling of old. They could really have a focus on new technologies of all types---from helpful to entertaining to educational and make it a guest friendly atmosphere like Communicore was instead of the boring way of being told about a company that they have now. I mean how many people actually go to Innoventions??? It's time to get flow back through these areas. On one side they could maybe put a walk through show of How did Disney do that? They could have examples of how Disney creates some of the magic at WDW such as the animatronics, topiaries, and other attraction marvels to show how Disney has and will continue to be the pioneer for theme parks?

I also agree that more of the nations need attractions and a new country would definitely give a lift to WS. Plus I think that America needs a revamped and much, much, much larger gift shop.

While a bit of a harsh way to put it, I basically agree...

I really liked the whole convention atmosphere originally, but it did go way too far over the top....

Other than that, I really like your ideas thedisneyfan! I hope someone in power at the "World" is listening to you!

I agree as well. Truthfully, I skip Innoventions every trip. Communicore used to be more interesting, but I confess I didn't spend most of the day there either. :lookaroun

Dump the Leave a Legacy deal. Looks like a cemetary.

Turn Living with the Land into a high-speed rollercoaster. If anything, it won't be so painfully long and boring when wifey-poo drags me on it.

I have no opinion of what is or isn't on the big golf ball. Put giant Mickey ears on it for all care. It's cool either way.
