OK, maybe I posted this in the wrong forum, we are planning to go to WDW in Aug. and I am also planning to go bass fishing with my sons, did it before in bay lake and 7 seas lagoon, now I know it will be hot then and the morning is the best time, so my question is what where would be the best place to fish out of, I do know that there are some very big bass under the boat landing by DHS, but is the fishing better somewhere else? I want this to be a really good trip, the last time between my 2 sons and I we caught 5 bass, I'd like to pick that number up, thanks

I've enjoyed fishing out of Dixie Landings and having the guide fish more through the Canals. AM fishing is the best time and the actually the real best time is right after a thunder storm. The big boys comes out and are hungry.

Another suggestion is to check the Farmer's Almanac & moon phases for your travel dates to determine the most optimal day of your trip for the best bite. My hubby does this whenever he plans to book a fishing excursion. If you'd like, tell me your travel dates & I'll have him look it up for you. :)

we will be down there august the 8th to the 15th, I'm not that big a fisherman, ya know, checking the moon phases, water temps, even the color of the lures, I do enjoy it alot, I'm just not that envolved in the science of the sport.

I don't find it all that interesting either but apparently there's a science to outsmarting fish which both my husband & brother thoroughly enjoy. Also, fish can tell the difference between a cheap, crappy boat and a fast, expensive, pretty boat because they prefer the latter. And don't be fishing with cheap rods or reels because they know the difference there, too. I've always envisioned these conversations amongst the fishies down under the water:

"Oh! George! Did you see that one that just blew by! Daaaaang! That was a Ranger!!!! We need to head over there. That's the cool boat to hang out by. I bet he's got a Rick Clun he's fishing with, too!"

That said, I just asked the hubby for his thoughts. He said he's no expert (but what he just tried to explain to me sounded like complete jibberish so who knows.). Anywhoo, I told him your travel dates & asked him, "If you were at Disney during these dates & were going to schedule an early fishing excursion which day(s) would you go?" After a big ol' looooong explanation about a bite schedule that made not a whole lotta sense so I won't go into all that I ascertained that his picks of your dates would be August 9th or 10th. Make sure it's the early excursion. I can attest to the fact that on the 2 fishing excursions he's been on at WDW he used his little method for determining dates and the kids were yanking in fish one right after the next and had a fab time.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes! :sohappy: If it's bad and you don't catch anything I'll whack the old man for ya! Just kiddin'!!!

Actually fishing is part of a Disney vacation. I usually go for 8 to 10 days and part of our time is doing a day or two of resort stuff, like renting boats, fishing & cane pole fishing and horseback riding. Keep in mind that you are at a resort and it's really fun to do a day of different stuff while staying on Disney propperty. Plus to a fishermen, it's always fun to fish in new places where you never fished before or only get to fish at once or twice a year.

MouseMan has the right idea! Bigtime fishermen love to fish different places sorta like foodies love to find new dining experiences. Also you gotta keep in mind that Disney's lakes are private lakes. They aren't over-fished & the populations are well cared for & controled. The sizes & quantity of the catches are impacted by this. Aaaand, the guides know the lakes & the beds so that helps, too. When my sons were littler it was also nice to have the guide with the extra set of hands to help out. The fishing is just a really nice excursion that is very enjoyable if fishing is something you like. It's pretty different from going to the local pond. It's all the fun without the cleanup, work, or hassle. :D
