Fish Extenders?

Has anyone on here been a part of a Fish extender group? I joined one (from another board) for my upcoming June cruise, it seems like fun but I haven't seen much discussion of them on these boards. If you've been a part of one what cool stuff have you given or gotten? Any advice for gifts or even deciding on a good budget?

We did a FE on the Dream Girls Cruise and I got a lot of neat stuff, everything from candy to magnets to some really wonderful homemade personalized items. Etsy is a good place to search for ideas.

I have spent quite a few hours today searching for ideas, I think now I have too many! LOL! What is a good budget for 18 cabins? It is our first cruise too.

Your budget can be what you are comfortable with. I made pirate bandanas for one of my FE gifts out of fat quarters from WalMart for $1.00 each and everyone loved them. And it will depend on whether you plan on doing something everyday, or just one larger item. I did small items every day of our cruise. Small stuff is easier to pack.

for anyone looking I have one for the Dream August 14th-17th 2014.
Disney Dream August 14th-17th Fish Extender Swap/Group. Hello, I am hosting a Fish Extender Group on the Dream this summer August 14th-17th and we would love to have you. I am finding that alot of people don't know what a Fish Extender Swap is so I am giving a brief description below....it is fun for adults and children and your family will have a blast! we also have a few fun contest to go along....so come join the fun! Below is a brief discription but if you join the first board on facebook it gives you lots of information.
****Every stateroom has a fish of some kind hanging on the wall outside the door. This is part decoration and part message center. The fish is there for Disney to place important communications to you such as excursion tickets and notes from the Cruise staff. It is like a mailbox for your room. A Fish Exgtender (FE) it is something that you hang off the fish . By hanging the Fish Extender off of the fish, the Cast Members can still use it for its original purpose. All the people in the exchange buy or make little items and place them in each other's fish extenders. It is great fun to come back and check the items you have received.
This is a wonderful site to get info and ideas....

Can you participate in a FE group w/o having to give out your personal info? For example just say who is traveling- 2 adults or Mom, Dad, and two sons, etc.

Usually they do ask for names, but I'm sure lots of groups wouldn't mind if you just gave a general demographic. And your room number of course!

Seems they all organize on FB- do you know if there is another way to participate?
It started as a thing on Disboards. It used to be cruise meets and exchanges were organized on the individual meet threads there. Then people started using FB instead. Kinda sad to go to the meet threads and see nothing but invites to FB. As a non-FBer that is. ;) I did the whole meet & exchange stuff on our earlier cruises. I haven't really bothered on the more recent cruises. I can honestly say it doesn't change the cruise awesome-sauce level at all either way. I actually prefer the non-participation. ;)
