First Visit & Birthday help please

Hi, really random questions but we are coming from England for our first visit to America in October and need help please.

We have the free dining plan, will we be restricted to what we can have off the menu? Or do we get a main/entree and Desert? Do we get a drink included?

Can anyone recommend a good quick service in each park for a vegetarian?

We will be celebrating our daughters 8th birthday while we are away. Is there anywhere (not AK or DT) to buy a selection of sweets/candies? I have booked her tickets for Cirque du Soleil for the evening and wanted to give her a selection of sweets in a popcorn box with her tickets in the morning.

Can you get toffee popcorn in america? We are using garden grocer and they only seem to do butter or salted?

Anyone with present ideas small enough to go in hand luggage would be great too (sorry, desperate for ideas)

1. For the most part, you are not restricted to what you get off of the menu. There are a few things that serve 2 or 3 people that you might not be able to select, but they are rare. You get 1 entree, one dessert and one non-alcoholic drink.

Thanks rt06, caramel popcorn sounds lovely. As for the meal plan, thanks for the advise. From a few pictures I have seen the portions are huge so not worried about being hungry at all. Just concerned about picky eaters in our party and a peanut allergy. We are not big eaters, one meal a day people so think we will save snacks for water. Saves carrying bottles around too. As far as places to buy candies/sweets. There's the confectionary in MK and several other places. I know there is a shop in Frontierland in the MK as well. IDK if you didn't want DTD as an option for this or not but theres Goofy's sweets there.

Toffee Popcorn. If you are trying to buy that in the US: The is an item you can get in the grocery store or even Amazon.com called Crunch n Munch. They have a toffee variety but be aware that theirs contains peanuts in it as well. If you want something in the parks, there are a few popcorn carts that do have flavored popcorn, and then as a previous poster stated, Karamel Kuche in Germany has great Caramel Popcorn, it's not toffee but close. Also, I know they sell some kind of popcorn in the Confectionery at the MK, it's colored and sweet but I'm not sure what.

I agree with this. A birthday dinner in Cindy's would probably make an 8 year old's bday! (that's where you eat in the castle).

On the DDP, it costs two table service credits, but you can just pay for another meal out of pocket, like at a quick service place, imho, and take advantage of it being free. Pictures and tip are included with the 2 credit spend. My daughter fully enjoyed doing BBB then Cindy's at that age. BBB isn't cheap, but it's not terribly expensive either for what you get and the memory involved. Also, the costumes are rather well made (if you opt for the larger packages) and for my kid lasted through as Halloween costumes as well.

If not Cindy's, b-day dinner at Akershus (also a Princess Meal) would work for Epcot.

One idea for a present is to get her a Disney Gift Card that she can use in the parks to buy whatever she wants. No "Mom, can I have this" questions. Here's your card and buy whatever you want with it. Could be a souvenir, could be a snack.

We just celebrated my 9 yr old step-daughter's bday in May while at Disney. We decorated the room with Frozen bday decortaions when she went to bed the night before her bday. We also decorated our hotel room door so when she woke up the next day we said Tinkerbelle must have known that today was her special day! At home I bought a few bday cards and signed them as different characters. In the card from Minnie I put some Minnie Mouse jelly beans and in the card from Anna and Elsa I put some Frozen tattoos. We packed other bigger presenst for her to open, but I know that won't work for you guys. How about some new Disney themed clothes or a new bathing suit and pool toys? Maybe like some goggles and a beach ball or a new Disney towel...all flat stuff and mostly stuff you will have to pack anyway. If she's a reader some new books would be easy to pack too...good luck!!

That's good to know you manage to safely eat. Sorry to hear about your allergy. Have you by any chance done the desert party? I have booked it for a few days after her birthday but now wondering how well she will get on after seeing lots of peanut butter based deserts. She does worry about what she eats sometimes more than I do. But on the more positive side, she is currently aloud trace peanut following most recent blood tests which makes life much easier. Doesn't stop me being an over protective and very annoying anxious Mum

No, never really had any desire to do the dessert party. And add on the peanut and peanut butter desserts and it's really not an option. Glad to hear your daughter is allowed at least trace.
