First Trip as a Couple

Hi Everyone,

I am super excited to take my wife to WDW this May 1st-9th. This is the first time we are both going together. I have been to WDW over ten times and she hasn't been since she was a child. We are really excited to take this trip as it will probably be our last one together before we start a family. We have been going back and forth on where to stay. Currently we have had a reservation at the Port Orleans Riverside, but it has been my dream to stay at the Poly. Is the Poly worth it for the additional expense? We plan on doing some nice dinners at Epcot and other places around WDW as well as the Parks. She also wants a nice place to sit by the pool in the afternoons some days. Looking for some input!

Thanks!

The split stay is a great way to save a few bucks, increase your experience of different things, and also plan your park trips. For example, when you’re staying at the Poly, focus on MK and then if you stay at Boardwalk, walk to Epcot and HS. Plan meals nearby also. AKL is awesome, too. We were impressed with that one.

Especially with a 9 day stay, and wanting to save a decent chunk of change, it’s worth considering amending your plans.

We did a split with a few nights at AKL and then Grand Floridian, and it was like two trips in one.

Now that you guys mention that I am open to that idea. My wife has really gotten into staying at the Polynesian. She has actually started helping with Dining reservations etc.. so not sure if she will be up for the split stay. Will approach today and see what she thinks!

So our first planning disagreement came up. We are going to be there for 9 days May 1- May 9 and we only have an 8 day pass. One of the days we won't be going to the parks. Should it be the first day (we arrive at MCO at 10:30am) or the last day (Flight leaves MCO at 7:30pm). With our dining reservations day coming up looking for some feedback!

I'll vote for first day. By the time you land, get to the hotel, check in - you'll have enough stress without worrying if your going to miss a FP window. Take the first day and explore the resort, head over to Disney Springs and just get in the overall Disney state of mind.

And I'll take the opposite position -- life is stressful enough without having to worry about getting to the airport on time. Use that last day to get up late, have a leisurely breakfast, and pack up slowly to savor the great time you're going to have!

That was my suggestion. Now we will have to go back and forth on it. If we did MK on the first day would we still get some fast passes for some decent rides that first day? I would still like to do Ohana for a late Dinner.

Sounds like a great trip in the makings. My hubby and I will be at Disney in September, just the two of us, for our 25th wedding anniversary. I'm so excited. It's the first trip for just the two of us since we honeymooned there. That was before I knew more about Disney and we stayed offsite . Now this time we are splurging and staying at Wilderness Lodge. It's one of my dream resorts so hubby said book it and hope for a room only discount so that's what I did.

As for MK on the first day, you should be able to get some great FPs if you book them when your FP window opens up.

During our first trip, we went to MK as soon as we got checked into the resort, etc. We were at MK by 1pm and looking back I wish we hadn't done that. I prefer MK in the morning when crowds are lower and at night. We were so overwhelmed that we missed Adventureland LOL. So our next trip, we kept our first day free to explore the resort and go to Disney Springs and it was a lot more relaxing trip. Once we started flying instead of driving, we use our check out day also as a resort day. We'll sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, check our luggage.

Can't really comment on hotels, but we have been as a couple lots. Make sure to check out some of the tours and special events. We have done a couple of them each trip and they are amazing. We have done starlight safari and afrika trek. But then my wife is a big animal lover, there are loads of other to suit all interests. They do make a trip to the kingdoms extra special.

Thanks! I wanted to have the VIP guide experience, but my wife vetoed that. I will have to check out some of the others. Do they still do the boat tours for illuminations?

Stay there now before you have kids because there is no way you will afford it then. LOL My hubby and I had 4 wonderful trips to WDW before our kids came and we loved it. Now we have less then 2 years before both of our kids are grown and doing their own thing and are looking forward to it being just us 2 again.

We booked at the Poly because we are both in our early 30s and this might be the last time for a while. It still stresses me out that we are spending that much, but we will make it work. We are getting free flights due to miles so it works out in the end for us.
