First timer Trip Report - Easter 2008

Hi all,

I'm new here, only discovered this site quite recently, and so been lurking on here for a while. Now I've decided to join and share with you my trip report from my first ever visit to Walt Disney World with my parents at Easter this year. I'm already planning our next visit - hopefully September 2009.

We were very lucky in the fact that we had no idea of the dining situation before we went. We had the dining plan though, but didn't realise about the ADR's and all that, but luckily managed to get walk-ups in practically all the restaurants.
I ought to add, the following trip report was written and sent to various members of the family, so there's a lot of explaining about different attractions and stuff. :)

Walt Disney World is for me the holiday of a lifetime. Ever since I can remember I’ve wished to go there, and now after years of waiting, the time had finally come. I may be 19 but I still got as excited about it as a little boy.[/FONT]
To cover the whole holiday fully, I ought to start at the very beginning, as that is a very good place to start, and so it all started on Sunday 16th March 2008.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin…

SUNDAY MARCH 16TH 2008.

We were down for actually flying to Orlando on Monday morning, but we realised that to get to the airport on time for check-in, we’d have to travel down about 4am in the morning, so it made much more sense to travel down and stay in the Travelodge hotel right near Gatwick airport overnight, so we didn’t need to rush in the morning.
So, we left the house about 4:30pm and travelled down to the hotel, and arrived there about 7:30pm ish.
Once we had checked-in we went to our room, to find it absolutely freezing cold. Also, the room contained only one double bed for mum and dad, so I was expected to sleep on a sofa in the room. The only problem was there happened to be no bedclothes. There was also no soap in the bathroom. All this combined with the rotten rainy weather outside – it was not a pleasant experience, however, we spoken to reception and they brought us some bedclothes, soap and a radiator for the room.
Once we’d sorted ourselves out and settled down to sleep, all of us had a restless and uncomfortable night, particularly me sleeping on the sofa as it felt as hard as possible so I had backache in the morning, from the uncomfortableness of it and the fact I couldn’t stretch out that well either. We hoped this was only a bad start and things would get better.

MONDAY MARCH 17TH 2008

First of all was Breakfast. As with problems with the room, there were problems with the breakfast. It was a fried breakfast of which you helped yourself too; however the remainder that was left was rather tasteless. There weren’t any plates, bowls or cups out anywhere so had to ask a so-called waiter, who went and came back with just the amount for the people in your party. Also, mum had a yoghurt which meant she used her only spoon, but needed another one for cereal, so she asked the waiter who caused a fuss by saying she’d already got one spoon so why did she need another one? Also, all the bowls, plates etc that were brought out from the kitchen were boiling hot, so overall it wasn’t a good breakfast.

Once that was over, we gathered together everything and set off to Gatwick airport. First of all we parked the car in the airport car park, and got on a bus to take us to the terminal. When we got there, we checked in, handed over our luggage, and headed over to security. Before we got there we had to put all liquids and creams we had in our hand luggage into clear plastic bags, not sure why. In the security area we had to put almost everything on us into boxes, dad and I were wearing belts and had to take them off because they would apparently set off the alarm.
After that was done, we had some time to look round the shops in the terminal before our plane left at about 11:30am.

On the plane, in-between the receiving of the complementary food and drinks, I managed to watch some things on the little TV on the back of the seats. Both mum and I watched the film ‘Enchanted’ which is the latest Disney film and I watched episodes of Robin Hood and Heroes, and played some games too. I also listened to my MP3 player for a while too.
It wasn’t long before the 8 ½ hours passed, but as the plane came down in Orlando my ears went really deaf and hurt quite a bit, but the pain stopped soon after we got off the plane.

We arrived in Orlando about 5:30pm American time and the first thing we had to do was to go and collect our luggage. Then we headed downstairs to find the depot for Disney’s Magical Express which would take us to Walt Disney World and our hotel.
Luckily all our suitcases appeared on the conveyor belt so had no problems there, so we went off to the Magical Express check-in place. By the queue area that you walked down to get to the buses there was a red carpet so we felt very privileged and like celebrities walking along it.
Everything was working out right for once and falling into place.

So, after we checked in we got on the bus and it wasn’t long before we arrived at the hotel we were staying at which was called Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. In case you hadn’t guessed by the title it was all themed like the Caribbean. The hotel was massive and split into sections named after Caribbean islands. We were in block 44 of the Jamaica area. It was so big though that from reception we had to get a minibus to take us to the area we were in.

As you can probably imagine, we were all rather tired so almost straight after we had unpacked everything, we got ready to go to bed. The room had two double beds so I got one all to myself. They were a lot more comfortable than the beds in the Travelodge the night before. The room was a lot bigger and spacious too.

TUESDAY MARCH 18TH 2008

Today was the first day in the parks. We were staying on site for 8 days excluding travel days, and we had 7 day passes to the parks. With this in mind, before we had left I had made a rough plan of the best way to cover everything we wanted to see.
However, before we made our way towards going to the first of the theme parks, it was time for Breakfast.

To get breakfast we had to go to an area called ‘Centertown’ which was situated in the middle of the whole resort area. To get there, we had to cross a bridge over the lake in the middle of the resort to get to the other side.
Inside Centertown was a food court that contained 5 small shops where you could order food. They changed what they had depending on the time of day.
For example at breakfast, one place you could get Omelettes, one place where you could get Mickey Mouse Waffles, one place where you could get Pancakes (which I had most days) and one place which was full of snacks. There was also a place that had delicious smoothies that mum had to drink most days. I ended up having rather sweet Minute Maid Apple juice most days. We noticed that everywhere you go, all the drinks were ones made by the Coca-Cola company.

For our first breakfast, I thought I’d try pancakes, and there was a choice of different ones so I had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. There was also chocolate chip pancakes, or strawberry pancakes which mum and dad had quite a few times.

There were places to sit inside and outside, and as it was our first day we tried sitting outside, but we realised that it was a little windy so for rest of our stay, we had our breakfast inside.

After breakfast was over, we went back to the room, got ready and headed out to the bus stop near our block to go to the first park of our visit – Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
For the record, this park used to be known as Disney-MGM studios but changed its name at the beginning of this year.

We hadn’t made any dining reservations on this trip, and had heard that it was quite difficult to get into restaurants without reservations, so one of the first things we did once we got to the park and past security, was to go the restaurant we wanted to eat in that day to see if we could get in for later that day. The restaurant we wanted to go in was called 50’s Prime Time Café, when we spoke to the front desk they said they were fully booked but were accepting walk-ins and to come back at the time we wanted to eat, and they’d see if they could fit us in. So we agreed to do that.

Then we went across to the nearest attraction which happened to be the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. This was stunt show showcasing some of the typical stunts seen in an Indiana Jones film featuring stunt doubles that actually worked on the film. The show went on slightly longer than normal though because during one scene a ninja got injured and had to be taken off so there was long pause while the actors and crew decided what they were going to do.
After this was over we went to Sounds Dangerous starring Drew Carey which was very near the Indiana Jones entrance. No wonder we were able to walk in there almost straight away, it was the worst attraction we went to during our stay. It was supposed to be a 10 minute show showcasing audio effects but there was nothing to it. I think there were other people disappointed too.

Afterwards, we passed by Star Tours, a Star Wars ride, but that had a long wait time so we decided to go down to the Muppet Vision 3D show that was nearby. This was really funny, as there were a lot of 4D elements too, and saw the muppets interacting with the audience in the theatre too especially when they had to search for Bean Bunny, and the finale which involved Swedish Chef with a cannon.

Nearby the exit to the ride we saw Woody and Buzz from Toy Story doing a meet and greet. There was quite a long queue for them, but there were two Green Army Men from the film wandering about, and not many people seemed to be going to them, so I managed to get a photo with one of them and an autograph too, followed by a salute.
By this time, it was nearly time for the afternoon parade, so we went and found a good position. The parade was called Block Party Bash and featured characters from Disney/PIXAR films such as Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc, and The Incredibles. There were also dancers that stopped the parade to do amazing dances on trampolines to well-known party songs like Dancing In The Street and YMCA.

After that had finished, we were all feeling a little hungry by now, so decided we’d go and see if we could get into the 50’s Prime Time Café. When we got there we were told it would be a 30-45 minute wait, so we decided to wait it out, and it didn’t seem too long before our name was called.
Apart from it being themed to do with the 50’s, it was done like it was your own family member doing the cooking for you. Most of which were ‘moms’ but we had Uncle Dale serving us and he kept calling us his ‘little English cousins from across the sea’. Basically, the waiters and waitresses in the restaurant treated you like you were their children, and you got told off if you put your elbows on the table and moan at you if you didn’t eat all your food etc.
The food was typical home cooking style of food but was very nice, plus I reckon I ate the most sickliest sweet dessert in there of the whole holiday – ice cream sundae with popcorn, brownies, m&m’s and different sauces too. I also had a Cherry Sprite to drink, which I didn’t get anywhere else and it was so lovely and refreshing.
We also noticed that in each restaurant we went in, they were happy to give us free refills of drinks, whereas here they don’t do that.
As we hadn’t finished all our drinks in 50’s Prime Time Café, Uncle Dale said he’d put them into takeaway cups for us ‘but only as long as we wouldn’t need to keep going potty all the time!’ which made us laugh.

Once this was over we walked down the ‘Streets of America’ area, which was a road designed to look like New York, towards the Backlot Tour ride and went on that. We’d been on a similar ride at Walt Disney Studios in Paris but this was different as we saw different film props, but the Catastrophe Canyon bit was the same. This was where the tour train started to shake like an earthquake, loads of fire came up and then the whole train got covered in a flood. At this point it was starting to get dark.

Next, we went on The Great Movie Ride, which was a ride where you went round and saw displays of famous movies, with facts told by the tour guide. However there was a twist because once we got into the gangster movies section, the tour guide ended up in the middle of an attack by gangsters which meant our car got taken over by a Bugsy Malone type, who stayed throughout most of the ride, until the tour guide returned towards the end.

When we came off there, we realised it wasn’t long before the first showing of the evening stage show Fantasmic! So we went down to the entrance to the amphitheatre situated near Tower of Terror ride, to find a huge queue and cast members (that’s what they call people who work in the parks) telling people that that show was full but to come back later for the next one.
We decided to go to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid attraction which happened to be nearby before we’d go back in good time to get in for Fantasmic. The Voyage of the Little Mermaid is a 20 minute stage show featuring characters from the film The Little Mermaid.

Once that was over we looked in a couple of shops before heading back down to the Fantasmic amphitheatre. There was still a large queue, but we managed to get in this time and it was well worth the wait. I had read that the amphitheatre can hold 15,000 people in it.
The show features Mickey falling asleep and having dreams about Disney films until the villains attack and turn Mickey’s dreams into nightmares. So Mickey has to use all he can to fight against them, and wins. There were scenes on the stage involving The Lion King, and Pocahontas before the villains start their attack.
The show features a lot of special effects such as water screens that projected video clips, music, water and fire effects, and fireworks, and we all thought this was our favourite of all the evening events that were in the parks. After it was over, we all said that we’d like to see it again if possible.

After the show had finished, everyone started making their way to the exit as the park had also closed for the day as it was about 10:30pm at night. So we got on a bus and went back to our hotel, and went to bed ready for another exciting day in the parks.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 19TH 2008

Today we decided that we’d go to Magic Kingdom which was the first of the parks that was built at Walt Disney World, and because I knew it would be busier later in the week.

After breakfast, where mum and I tried Mickey waffles, of which I wasn’t very keen, we set off to Magic Kingdom.
It was also on this day where mum and I discovered the little pots of apple slices that were available. However, these weren’t any ordinary apple slices; these apple slices had caramel dipping sauce with them. We thought these were so delicious that we practically had them every day afterwards.

When we got to Magic Kingdom and passed through all the security checks, and into the main park in Main Street USA, it was about 11am. I was looking at the map, and the entertainment schedule and found out that a small parade was about begin soon called the Main Street Family Fun Day Parade. So we found a good position to be able to see it. It was a very patriotic parade, with all the Disney characters waving the United States flag, along with marching bands. It culminated with the Disney characters gathering round the town square of Main Street and dancing to USA anthems like Yankee Doodle Dandy, and also involved the raising of the American flag.

Once this was over, we decided we’d go on the Main Street railroad which took us all round the park, but we’d get off at Mickey’s Toontown Fair. I had decided it would be better to do the park in reverse and start with the last land first and work backwards, to try and avoid queues, but where ever we went it was still really busy.

In Toontown Fair, mum and I went on Goofy’s Barnstormer rollercoaster, before we all went to see what there was in Tomorrowland.
In Tomorrowland, dad and I went on Indy Speedway, where you drove a car round a race track. Afterwards, we had an ice cream, and got to try one of the famous Mickey Mouse ice creams, which is pretty much like a Magnum but shaped like Mickey Mouse.
Then we went Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, which was an interactive ride where you rode round and had to shoot at targets. This was followed by Carousel of Progress, which was an updated version of showcase that was invented by Walt Disney himself in the 60’s. It was a moving theatre that took you through time using animatronics showing how we have progressed with inventions since the turn of the century.

Afterwards, we went on Stitch’s Great Escape, which I can’t remember a lot about but involved Stitch escaping into the audience.
Then it was time to move on to Fantasyland which is next to Tomorrowland. The first ride we went on there was Mad Tea Party, which is a tea cup ride. Once we came off there, it was time to get into position for the afternoon parade. Because mum was in a wheelchair today, after being exhausted from the day before, we could get into the special area for disabled people, so had a really good view of the parade.
The parade was called Disney Dreams Come True Parade and featured floats of many of the classic Disney films, including the most recent one Enchanted.
I ended up taking lots of photos at this parade.

After this was over, I found out the Dream Along with Mickey stage show outside the Cinderella castle (the main centre of the park) and near to where we were would be starting soon, so we went over to watch that. This was a short show that featured Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy amongst other Disney characters. It was very pretty and including a couple of fireworks too.

Once this was over, we decided it was time for food. There didn’t seem to be that many restaurants in the Magic Kingdom, more places to have quick snacks or McDonald’s type places. However, we found a restaurant on Main Street called Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, which had a theme based on the film Lady and the Tramp.
This was a more posh restaurant than we had been in the day before, but it was very nice. The mains consisted of various different types of pastas but there were fish and meat dishes too.

Coming out of Tony’s we saw on the opposite side of the square, a very small queue of people waiting to see none other than Mr and Mrs Easter Bunny. So we went over, and got to have photos taken with them, and got their autographs too. Mum wanted to take some film of them too but for some reason the camera wouldn’t work. We found out later that it something had gone wrong inside it, so it wouldn’t work the rest of the holiday, however mum had managed to get some film of the days we had been there so far.

When we had finished there, we went back to Fantasyland to try and fit in some more attractions before the evening entertainment began.
The rides we covered were The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, a dark ride showing scenes from the stories, Snow White’s Scary Adventures, Peter Pan’s Flight and It’s A Small World. The latter three were similar to ones we had been on in Paris but were on a bigger scale.
We also went in Mickey’s PhilharMagic which was another 3D show but was really amazing. The show stars Donald Duck who uses Mickey’s sorcerer hat against his permission. Unfortunately this causes problems as a whirlwind appears and transports Donald in Disney films, and he has to chase through them to try and get Mickey’s hat back. There was one scene that featured Ariel from the Little Mermaid showing off her jewellery and it was so pretty it felt like you could reach out and touch the jewels.

By the time, we had finished all those attractions it was about 9:40pm, so we decided it would be a good idea to go and find a place where we would be able to see the Wishes Fireworks Spectacular at 10pm. We managed to get a place to the right of the Castle in some gardens, and was quite a good view. We thought the fireworks were very pretty. After they had finished, we moved over to the same spot we were in earlier for the afternoon parade, ready for the evening parade – Spectromagic.
Again, this was very very pretty and was one of our favourite parades. This featured floats covered in colourful lights. Each float changed from coloured to just white lights, and even some of the characters who went by like Snow White and Dwarfs had lights on their costumes too.
One thing that made me laugh was that whilst we were waiting for the parade to begin, my dad said ‘I thought I might be able to have an early night tonight, but obviously not.’ I replied back ‘Hello? We’re In Walt Disney World, there is no such thing as early nights here!’
After the Spectromagic parade had finished however, we made our way to the exit and got the bus back to the hotel. We knew we hadn’t seen everything in the park, but planned we’d go back there later in the week.

First timer trip report...continued!

THURSDAY MARCH 20TH 2008

Today, after breakfast, we went to Animal Kingdom, the most recent of the four main parks and opens ten years ago in April 1998.

Just past the entrance was a Rainforest Café. We had been in one of these when we visited Canada, so thought it would be a good idea to see if we get in there later for our meal. Unfortunately though they didn’t take the Disney Dining Plan we were on, and wouldn’t accept two ‘Table Service’ tokens we had to eat in there, so would have to find somewhere else later on.

Once inside the park and again past security, our first port of call was to go to the 3D show; It’s Tough to Be a Bug which is situated under the Tree Of Life which is the main object in the centre of the park. This featured characters from A Bug’s Life, and there were times where it felt like the creatures were all around you.

After this, we went to go and see the Festival Of The Lion King show, and on the way stopped to have an ice cream, but had to finish it quickly otherwise they wouldn’t let us into the theatre. Mum thought the show might be like the one seen in the West End, but it was completely different. It had South African singers, acrobats and puppets in it. It was very colourful.
Next on our hit list was to go and visit the Dinoland area of the park. Dad and I went on the DINOSAUR ride; whilst mum sat and waited (she hates dinosaurs). This was a high speed thrill ride with lots of twists and turns, and it was quite scary too. The dinosaurs looked very realistic and at one point it was as if the T Rex was coming down to grab you.

When we came off this, we collected mum and headed over to see Finding Nemo: The Musical. This was a half-hour musical based on the film Finding Nemo, and was created by the same team that did Avenue Q. It was very cleverly done, as I thought it would be a hard film to transfer to the stage.
By the time it had finished, it was virtually time for the afternoon parade called Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade. At this point it was very hot, and we had to smother ourselves in sun cream to keep us from getting burned. The parade was very colourful and reminded me a bit of something you might see at the Notting Hill carnival.

Once this had finished, we decided it would be a good idea to explore the back two lands of the park. So we went over to ‘Africa’ and went on Kilimanjaro Safaris. On this, you went in big cars driven by cast members out into a wide open area that looked like an African savannah. There you got to see real live animals up close including lions, zebras, gazelles, elephants and much more. It really felt like you were really in Africa.
Next we walked round towards ‘Asia’ and on the way, we came across a restaurant called Yak and Yeti, we looked at the menu outside and decided to see if we could get in. We were able to get in almost straight away. It was an Asian/Chinese themed restaurant, and I had Honey chicken which contained Tempura chicken, broccoli, carrots, honey sauce and rice. Mum and dad also had one their favourite desserts here of fried Wontons which were fried pineapple and cream cheese on skewers with vanilla ice cream and honey drizzle.
By the time we had finished in there, there wasn’t much time before the park was due to close for the day.

Animal Kingdom is the park that closes the earliest at 8pm. There were still some things we hadn’t managed to see, but there was one ride which I desperate to get on – Expedition Everest.
I went on ahead of mum and dad, as they weren’t keen on going on the ride, and I managed to get into the queue – or line as they say out there. Expedition Everest is a high speed rollercoaster that takes you too the top of the mountain. However, the Yeti attacks, and destroys and the track which means you grind to a halt before rolling backwards down to the inside of the mountain into the Yeti’s lair. Luckily you manage to escape but not before the Yeti tries to grab you.
This was one of my favourite rides of the whole time there. I’m still not certain whether you go upside down in the dark or not.

After that, it was closing time for the park so everyone had to leave. As the park had closed early compared to the others we’d been to so far, we thought it would be a good idea to visit the Disney Boardwalk that I had heard about. So we got on a bus that would take us there, stopping off at several hotels on the way.
On the way, mum got talking to a woman from Toronto in Canada, and she told us a short cut to the Boardwalk, which was to get off at the Swan and Dolphin hotel, instead of the Boardwalk hotel, as it’s quicker to walk there from the Swan and Dolphin than travelling to the Boardwalk hotel. So we took her tip, and it was a really quick walk from the Swan and Dolphin hotel.

I had read that the best time to see the boardwalk is at night time because apparently it is really pretty. I was not disappointed. The whole area looks like an old-fashioned seaside village or pier. Everywhere was lit up with white lights and it was very pretty. As well as shops and restaurants (including one that had people duelling on pianos) there were side stalls and entertainment in the form of jugglers too.

We wandered round and looked at everything for a while, and saw some of the fireworks from the EPCOT park which was nearby, but didn’t watch for too long as we didn’t want to spoil it for the following night. Once we had finished we got a bus to Magic Kingdom, so we could get a bus back to our hotel and go to bed.

FRIDAY MARCH 21st 2008 – GOOD FRIDAY

Today was Good Friday, and also the day we were visiting EPCOT or Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, the second park built at Walt Disney World in 1982.

After the usual breakfast of pancakes, it was off to the park. Mum had a bad migraine which wasn’t a good start, but luckily it wore off later in the day. She also went round the park in a wheelchair again because she was very exhausted again from walking round Animal Kingdom.

At the entrance of the park, they play Beach Boys tracks but sadly this did not continue round the rest of the park. The first attraction we went on was called Spaceship Earth.
This ride was inside the giant dome which is the centre point of the park. It was a dark ride that went through the history of communication using animatronics, and you went right round to the top of the dome and back down again.
When we came out of there, we were right by the Innoventions building. This features demonstrations and inventions of tomorrow. One of the displays we went in was The House of Tomorrow, where you got to see new inventions used in houses.
After this we felt hungry, so went and had some ice cream in Fountain View Ice Cream Parlour. I had chocolate and mint choc chip in a massive waffle cone. Mum had Butter Pecan and Rainbow Sherbet ice cream and thought it was really nice.
Next door to the Ice Cream parlour was a place called Club Cool which was a shop featuring lots of Coca Cola merchandise. There was also a feature in there, where you try out different drinks from around the world. Out of the ones mum tried, she said her favourite was the drink from Israel as it included honey in it.

We then went off to try and fit in some more rides. The information board nearby put us off going on some rides though because of the long wait times. For example it said Soarin’ was a 130 minute wait, and Test Track was 90 minute wait, but it also said The Seas with Nemo and Friends was only 15 minute wait so we went over to go on that.
This was another dark ride, but this time going through scenes from the film Finding Nemo. As you come out there is a little aquarium featuring real life fish seen in film.

As time was getting on, once we came out of there, we decided we ought to go and explore the other half of the park – World Showcase. This part of the park had little areas all themed to 11 different countries of the world. The first country we started at was Canada. Some of the countries had attractions, and some didn’t, but each little area was themed around typical things you’d find in that country. Canada was themed like the Rockies, and included a 360˚ film showing landscapes of the country hosted by Canadian actor and comedian Martin Short.
Situated next to Canada was the United Kingdom which made us feel at home. There were little thatched cottages, Shakespeare style houses, little castles and red telephone boxes. The restaurant here was themed like a typical British pub and was called the Rose and Crown. It had items like Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding and Harry Ramsden’s Fish and Chips on the menu.
At the end of our ‘street’ was a bandstand and at certain times of the day a Beatles tribute band called The British Invasion played.
There was also a street theatre group that involved the audience to tell the tale of King Arthur at certain times too.

What made us laugh was that in each country we visited, you’d hear lots of people speaking the native language, so in the UK we heard a lot of people speaking very British. The Beatles tribute band however, were American but tried to put on a Liverpool sounding accent.

It was around 5:00pm when we had finished there so we decided we’d find somewhere to eat for dinner. I suggested going round to Italy as both mum and I like Italian food like pizza and pasta, but when we got there we were told it’d probably be an hour’s wait before we got in, so we looked for somewhere else.
Quite nearby, a couple of countries away, was Morocco. Mum and dad suggested that we go in the restaurant there called Restaurant Marrakesh, I didn’t want to as I didn’t think I’d like the food much, but in the end I’m glad we did.
During the meal there was entertainment in the form of a female belly dancer, and wow she was gorgeous! It was hard for me turn my eyes away to continue eating!
The waiters in there were all dressed up too and wore fezzes on their heads. I waited for someone to say ‘Just like that!’ but none of them did.

When we had finished in there, we continued past various different countries to get to China because according to the entertainment schedule there were performances from Chinese Acrobats, and we were interested in seeing them. Mum and I noted how tiny they were and how amazing some of the stunts were including balancing on top of each other. There was one girl who balanced filled wine glasses on trays on her nose while climbing up ladders. We also found out what our Chinese animal was regarding our year of birth. Mine turned out to be a dragon which I was very pleased about. Mum’s was a rabbit, and dad’s was a snake.

Afterwards, we briefly looked in Norway, and debated to go on the Maelstrom ride there, and decided to leave it for now, and then headed back to The American Adventure to see the 8:15pm show there before the evening spectacular.
The show used animatronics and to put it bluntly, basically said how great America was.

As we were leaving the theatre, the cast members said, you’re just in time to see the Illuminations show, if you go between Italy and Germany, you’ll get the best view. So we followed their advice, and there was an area for disabled people and we managed to get in there, and it was a really good view for the show.

Illuminations: Reflections Of the Earth is a fireworks show set to music and visuals from a spinning globe in the middle of the lake.
From where we were, we had a perfect spot for the show, and it certainly was spectacular with all the various different types of fireworks.
Once that was over, it was time to leave the park as it was closing for the night. We decided that instead of getting a bus back to the hotel, we’d try out the monorail.
This however took slightly longer, as we thought the monorail stopped at the Magic Kingdom Park, but we ended up getting off at a transportation depot. So we ended up then getting a bus that took us to Hollywood Studios, and then from there changing to get a bus back to our hotel.

The following day was due to be our day off from the parks, and we knew that we had three more days available to go into the parks, so once back in our hotel, we discussed what we were going to do for those three days.
We agreed that we’d go to EPCOT again on the Sunday, then Magic Kingdom on Monday, and finally Disney Hollywood Studios on the Tuesday.

SATURDAY MARCH 22ND 2008 – EASTER SATURDAY

As this was our free day, we decided to lay in a bit, as we were rather tired after four intense days going round the parks.

After we went to breakfast, although the weather wasn’t that warm, mum and I decided we’d go for a swim in one of the outdoor pools in our hotel.
It was nice and relaxing in there but quite cold, so didn’t stay in for too long. Then we decided to relax on the beach for a couple of hours.

On each of the beaches there are hammocks to lie in and they were really comfortable. In fact they were so comfortable that both mum and I felt like we could easily go to sleep in them.
Late afternoon, we decided to go off and explore Downtown Disney.
This is an area full of shops and restaurants.

Our first stop was to see if we could get in to eat at Planet Hollywood. We queued up and our names were taken and we were told it would be a 30-45 minute wait, so we decided to wait. When our names were called we were told to go upstairs to Level 2 – The Adventure Level. The food was nice but we were quite restricted to what we could have there compared to the other restaurants that we had been to on the Dining plan.
When we left there, we went to explore all the shops that were there. It lightly rained but didn’t bother us too much as we were going in and out of shops.

The Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney was huge, there was so much to see in there in relation to DVD’s and CD’s and clothes you could easily spend a few hours there alone.
In one of the sweet shops, mum rather liked the look of some huge toffee apples that were being made. As well as toffee apples, there were chocolate covered apples with different kinds of sweets on them too.
There was also a Harley-Davidson shop with a motorbike in the window that people could have their pictures taken on, so all three of us couldn’t resist having a go at looking cool.
We also went in a massive Disney store, that seemed to contain everything, but it was soooo hot in there. All the other shops had air conditioning in them which kept them cool but this one obviously hadn’t got it on, so by the time we had finished in there, we were glad to get back out in the cool open.

One of the places I wanted to visit in Downtown Disney was the Ghirardelli Chocolate Shop and Ice Cream Parlour. I had heard mentions that this was “the place” to go for ice cream, and it was certainly true.
As it was quite late at night, mum didn’t have one, but I had a Mint Bliss sundae which contained – Scoops of Mint Chip and Chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate hot fudge sauce, whipped cream, and a square of mint bliss intense dark chocolate. When it came, and I started eating it, it was wonderful, and after mum tasted it, she got rather jealous. We made an agreement that we’d come back here again to have another one before went home.
Next door to the ice cream parlour, is the chocolate shop part which sells all different kinds of chocolate, but rather expensive. However, there was a cast member giving out free samples of the caramel bar, and it was rather nice.

After this, we looked round a few more shops before going back to our hotel and then bed.

SUNDAY MARCH 23RD 2008 – EASTER SUNDAY

Today was Easter Sunday, and surprisingly didn’t hear that many people saying ‘Happy Easter’ or anything. Walt Disney World holds special Easter services, two Catholic and one Protestant service. Mum and I had thought about going to one but the Protestant one was at 9am and we were really tired so decided to give it a miss.
So once again, after breakfast, it was time to head off to a park, and today we were returning to EPCOT to see some of the things we missed first time round.

We started off again in Future World to go on some more rides. The first ride we went on was Journey into Imagination with Figment. This was a dark ride which featured Eric Idle and a purple dragon called Figment taking you on a journey about your senses and how different things can add to imagination. Then we went in Honey, I Shrunk The Audience which is a 4-D, and was the same as the one we saw in Paris.

After we had finished there we went into the area called ‘The Land’ and one of the first attractions in there we went on was called The Circle of Life. This was a short film featuring characters from the Lion King explaining how we need to save the environment. It wasn’t that brilliant and was kind of ironic since it was sponsored by Nestle.
Then we went on a ride called Living with the Land which was a boat ride that took us round greenhouses and fish farms and showed you how rare plants are grown. It was very interesting. Afterwards, we decided that we would wait it out to go on Soarin’. It was an attraction I really wanted to go on, and all the time the queues were long for it, so there was no choice, we either had to see it and wait in the long queue or miss it.
It had been my aim since the start of the holiday to go on as many rides and attractions as possible, and this was one of my ‘high priority’ ones, so we decided to go and wait.
We were in the queue for about 1hr 45mins before we got onto the ride, but it certainly was worth the wait.

On the ride, you sit in cable car type seats, and strapped in with a belt, then you get lifted up into the air and in front of you is a giant screen on which is projected different scenes that make you feel like you are flying through the air. The ride includes swerves and drops, and sensations of smells that make you feel like you are really flying through the air. One of the smells was of oranges as you flew over Florida orange trees.
It was a really clever ride and one of my favourites that I went on.

By the time we had finished in there, we were feeling hungry, and instead of touring round World Showcase looking for a restaurant we thought we’d go and see what the restaurant inside ‘The Land’ Pavilion was like.
The restaurant was called ‘Chip & Dale’s Garden Grill’ and was a character dining restaurant. The menu said it was an all you can eat buffet, and the food sounded really nice, so we thought we’d try it.
We went up to the counter and they said that they were actually closed at the moment but to return at 4:15pm when they would start taking walk-ins for the restaurant. As it was 4:00pm, we went outside and had a little wander round the area we were in, and saw some more stuff related to the Flower and Garden festival.

At the time we returned to restaurant, and they took our name down and gave us a little pager thing so keep hold of, and it would buzz when a table was ready for us.
It wasn’t too long before it buzzed and we went and got seated ready for our meal.
For starters was buttermilk biscuits and cornbread. The waitress then brought our plates and a huge platter of food for us to tuck into.
The buffet food consisted of rotisserie chicken, steak with a mushroomy type sauce on it, fried catfish, cheesy potato casserole and green beans.
The catfish was rather rich and more of an acquired taste. I quite liked it but couldn’t eat much of it. We all commented on how nice the rest of the food was particularly the potato casserole.

Soon after we started our meal, the Disney characters started coming round to the tables to interact, sign autographs, and have photos taken. In order we had Chip, Mickey, Pluto and Dale. Both mum and I were getting excited over it all like we had turned into little kids. We all agreed that surprisingly Chip was our favourite of all the characters because he interacted the most. There was at one point when I was looking through my autograph book at what autographs I had got (it contained all the ones I got at Disneyland Paris as well) when Chip came round and wanted to have a look.
As he turned the pages he made remarks about each one. Like for Dale he did the loopy sign and for Pluto he made out that he smells, and when he came to the page with his own autograph on he acted all surprised and pointed to it, and then pointed to himself in a “It’s me! It’s my autograph! Yay!” way. Then when he looked through them all, he turned it back to the page with his autograph on, put it down on the table and patted it as if to say “There! That’s the best one, so leave it like that!”
It was so much fun, and when we had finished the huge plateful of food, the waitress came round and asked if we wanted more, so we got some more of our favourites.
Also for dessert, mum and dad had a Very Berry puff pastry, whilst I had a fairy cake with icing and sprinkley bits to put on it. These including mini M&M’s and little Mickey mouse sprinkles too.

We all agreed that this was one of our favourite restaurants that we went to during our stay.

Once we had finished in there, we decided to go on to the World Showcase and visit some more countries. There were still some rides we didn’t get to go on, but it was impossible to fit in everything in the time we had there.

We didn’t stop in Canada this time as we’d spent a lot of time there the other day, and we only stopped in the UK part to go into the shop there which we didn’t get to do before. Inside the shop there were lots of gifts related to the UK, including a small area of British chocolate, and things to do with the Mr Men, Mary Poppins, Winnie The Pooh, Beatrix Potter, and The Beatles. We spoke to one young girl working in the shop who had been working there for six weeks and came from Scotland. She told us that some of the Americans had asked some weird questions to her like ‘What language do they speak in England?’, ‘What part of England is Wales in?’ and ‘Why have you got Beatles stuff here, they’re an American band’.

Afterwards we then toured round the other countries stopping off at France, and Japan on the way before we realised what the time was. It was 7:10pm. In the American part there is the America Gardens Theatre, and whilst we were there as part of the Flower and Garden festival they were having a series of concerts featuring 60’s bands and artists. The previous couple of nights had been The Guess Who, but tonight was Petula Clarke, so we rushed over so we could catch the remainder of the show.
When you see these older artists, they seem to know how to work the crowd more than bands do nowadays. As well as singing her own songs, Petula Clarke played the Beatles song ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ in a slowed down piano style that mum and I said murdered the song. She also made a dig at Paul McCartney which we didn’t think was particularly good either. Needless to say of course, she ended off the show with her biggest hit – Downtown.

We then managed to continue touring the countries and visited Germany, China and Norway. In Norway Dad and I went on the Maelstrom ride which was a boat ride through the history of the Vikings and included some drops including a backwards one.
Then it was getting on towards time for the Illuminations: Reflections of the Earth display again, so we decided we’d go and try and get in the same disabled spot as before to try and see it again.
We did get in there again, and we all enjoyed the show again, however we thought it seemed shorter than it did the previous time, but maybe that was because we knew what to expect.
After this was over, the park was closing for the night, so it was time to get a bus back to our hotel, and climb into bed ready for another day in the parks.

On the buses to and from the parks they play Disney music, and on the way back they switch the lights off which we thought was odd. Also this particular night we had a very hyper bus driver. Every time we stopped somewhere she got really enthusiastic about it. For example on our stop she went “And he we are at Jamaicaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!”
It could get annoying after a while, but at least she was happy.

MONDAY 24TH MARCH 2008

Easter Monday and it was today that we were going to visit Magic Kingdom again. We had avoided it on Easter Sunday because we had heard about terrible crowds then. However, when we got to the park (after breakfast) we thought it was still going to be terrible because of the amount of people we saw trying to make their way up Main Street USA but in actual fact, the queuing wasn’t too bad for rides.

Our aim today was to try and cover the half of the park we hadn’t visited, and then depending on time go on any rides that we wanted to again.
So we started our day in Liberty Square inside Frontierland.
The first attraction here we went in was The Hall of Presidents. This was an audio-animatronics show featuring every single president of the USA and most importantly Abraham Lincoln and George W. Bush who gave speeches. It was very clever as they looked almost real.

After this we went to The Haunted Mansion, this was similar to Phantom Manor that we went on in Disneyland Paris but had some differences, and somehow we preferred the Paris version to this one, it seemed slightly more scary somehow.
Once we had finished there, unfortunately time was getting on which prevented us from going on the Liberty Square Riverboat, so we had an ice cream and moved on to the rest of Frontierland.

As we were walking down Frontierland, we saw the end of Woody’s Cowboy Camp which was a street theatre show that involves children from the audience learning to be a cowboy. The first attraction we went on here was Country Bear Jamboree.
Mum wasn’t overly keen on going in to see it, but I wanted to because it was another of the “classic” Disney attractions. I think she was glad we did go in though as she was laughing and enjoying it. Country Bear Jamboree is an animatronics show that features bears singing country songs.

Next, as we carried on down Frontierland, we came across Splash Mountain. Dad and I went on that as mum wasn’t that keen on getting wet.
This was similar to a log flume except that as well as big drops, there were bits where you went inside the mountain and saw scenes featuring Brer Rabbit from Song of the South. Before we got on the ride, dad had noticed that people sitting in the back row didn’t get quite as wet as those nearer the front, and as the weather was cooler than previous days, he hoped we’d get in the back row. Luckily enough, we did, and even going down the biggest drop we didn’t get that wet and we thought we had escaped the water when suddenly a boat came down behind us and all the water came over the top of us and drenched us.
After we came off this, I wanted to go on Big Thunder Mountain but the queue was 80 minutes, so we decided to leave it for now and go on to Adventureland.

The first attraction we came to in Adventureland was the classic Pirates of the Caribbean ride. This was a dark boat ride through scenes about pirates. It was very similar to the one we went on in Paris, but it was more updated and featured characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
The next attraction was we went on was Jungle Cruise. This was an outdoor safari boat ride going through the jungle and seeing animatronic animals. There was also a guide on the boat telling jokes and stories and about the animals and I thought he looked a little bit like ________ Van .

After this we queued up for The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, where you sat in flying carpets and flew over the top of Adventureland. It was good but seemed to be over too quick, but then that was probably due to the large amounts of people in the park all day.

When we came off that, next door was The Enchanted Tiki Room – Under New Management which was another of the “classic” Disney attractions. This was animatronics show full of tropical birds plus Iago from Aladdin and Zazu from The Lion King. The show was an updated version of the original attraction and made it out that Iago and Zazu were the new owners of The Enchanted Tiki Room, but Iago wanted to change too much which angered the Tiki gods but in the end Iago got his comeuppance and learnt his lesson.

Once we had finished here, we were rather hungry so looked round to see if there were any restaurants around this area we could eat in, but none took our fancy so we decided to go to the bottom of Main Street and try and get into eat in Tony’s Town Square Restaurant again. We did get in, but it was a longer wait than before.
This time, we were seated outside, and was really nice but towards the end it got quite cold. I had the same as when we were in here before as I had really liked it.

Then, when we came out of the restaurant we went back into Fantasyland and revisited some attractions there that we wanted to go on again. This included It’s A Small World, Peter Pan’s Flight and Mickey’s PhilharMagic before going into Tomorrowland and revisiting attractions there.
The only one we went on again here was Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Nearby this ride was the Monsters, Inc Laugh Floor attraction. I was interested in this as I liked the film, but mum wasn’t keen as she hated the film, but I dragged them in anyway and mum ended up loving it.

It was a different type of show using digital puppetry. The background was that since the monsters started collecting laughs, they found the best way was to hold shows so they could get bigger laughs from a larger crowd. The show features three acts, and the animated characters interact with the audience. Each show is never the same.
As soon as we came out of it, mum said lets go in again, so we went in again. The responses and reactions of the monsters are very clever, witty and funny.

After this, we went and got into position to watch the Spectromagic parade again. At this point, it had gone really cold and we wondered whether we’d be able to stand and see it again, as we were only wearing t-shirts or clothes that weren’t particularly warm due to it being very hot all the time we had been there. We did stay though, and we enjoyed seeing the parade again, and it was just as pretty as before.

When the parade had finished it was about 11:40pm and the majority of people were leaving the park even though it was still open until 1am. There was one ride in Frontierland that I wanted to go on, but didn’t get a chance earlier due to the long queue. I said to dad ‘Can we go and see what I queue is like now as I can imagine it not being very long at this time of night’. The ride was Big Thunder Mountain, and earlier the queue was 90 minutes, and when we got there at this late hour, it was only a 20 minute wait. Dad and I decided we’d go on it and then that would be it for the night. When we got seated on the mine train (as it was a rollercoaster) before we set off I said to dad ‘How many places in England would you be able to go on rides at midnight?’ The answer probably being none due to them all closing as early at 5pm.
Big Thunder Mountain was awesome, as there were lots of drops and twists and turns. There was one point where it seemed we were going to go in one direction and at the last minute we changed and went the opposite direction.

When we got off the ride, we went and collected mum and headed towards the exit. As we wouldn’t be returning to the Magic Kingdom again during this stay, we made sure we had one last look around especially at the castle before we left to go back to our hotel.

TUESDAY 25TH MARCH 2008

As we were coming back from breakfast, we saw quite a few teams playing sports on various grassy patches of the hotel area – mainly Lacrosse. Apparently it is a well known thing for school teams to go there and take part in some championships at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

Our first point of call today was to go to Downtown Disney, to spend some more time in the shops there, and have another ice cream in the wonderful Ghirardelli Ice Cream Parlour.
One of shops we went in was Goofy’s Candy Co, where both mum and I filled up a bag of sweets that included dark chocolate M&M’s and Hershey bars along with other unusual chocolate that you don’t find in the UK. I also brought a packet of Mickey’s chocolate covered caramels which were really lovely.

In the Ghirardelli Ice Cream Parlour, I decided to try a different ice cream to before, so I Toffee Interlude which contained two scoops of vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate hot fudge sauce, toffee crumbles, whipped cream, and a square of toffee interlude intense dark chocolate. I can’t remember what mum had (I think I was enjoying mine a bit too much too notice!) but it contained hot fudge sauce and caramel sauce too.
It was certainly the sort of place where you easily go back again and again, as the ice cream was so nice in there.

When we had finished looking around Downtown Disney, we got a bus back to our hotel, and then changed to get a bus to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, so spend our last day of our trip in the park.

As we arrived, we saw the Block Party Parade moving off onto the next stop on its route. The first attraction when went to straight away was The Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror, this was a ride I was determined to go on and had been waiting all trip to get on it. The queue was 70 minutes so I decided to wait it out. Mum wasn’t sure whether she would like it or not, and dad wasn’t keen on going on it, so both of them decided to stay behind whilst I went on my own on it.

The theme of this attraction was set inside an abandoned hotel where guests had mysteriously disappeared in the 1930’s. You go through the reception area which is full of cobwebs and looks like it hasn’t been touched for years, and into the library where all of a sudden the room goes pitch black. Needless to say, most people screamed at this. A television comes on and starts just like the beginning of an ordinary Twilight Zone episode. Rod Serling then introduces you to the hotel, and begins explaining how one night during a storm, the lifts (or elevators) got struck by lightning and the guests disappeared, and now the lift has a mind of its own. Once this is over you are led through to the boiler room by some very creepy cast members. There you are loaded into one of the four lifts, once you are inside you sit down on the seats, and get spoken to by another very creepy cast members who says ‘Anyone having second thoughts? Well too late!’ and laughs manically as he slams the doors shut. The lift rises, and then opens and you see ghosts of the disappeared guests. The lift carriage then moves on through this hotel corridor into another lift shaft at the end, then the shutters open and you see a view of the whole park. Suddenly, the lift drops and you can’t help but scream. This happens several times before the shutters close, and lift moves back through the corridor as around you, you see elements from the Twilight Zone opening titles and Rod Serling says ‘You have just entered – The Twilight Zone!’, the lift goes into another shaft where the doors open and you can exit.

When I met up with mum and dad afterwards, they told me that they had gone to have a wander and on the way saw the Power Rangers posing for photos and autographs.
After this, we thought as it was about 5:30pm we’d see if we could get in anywhere to eat. First of all, we went to 50’s Prime Time Café as we all wanted to go back there after enjoying it the first time round but when we went we were told that they were fully booked up unless you wanted to wait 2 hours to be seated. We didn’t want to wait that long, so had a look around at other restaurants, and they either didn’t appeal to us or were totally booked up. Our last hope was The Brown Derby which was the poshest restaurant in the park, and came under ‘Signature Dining’ and was luckily one that took the dining plan that we had. So we went in to see if there was a chance of getting in there. There were two old boys on reception who looked positively ancient must have been at least 200 years old if not more. At first it seemed doubtful, but then whether he was sympathetic to mum being in a wheelchair or not, they managed to sort out a table for the three of us.

The main course we had was really nice (steak) but the dessert was a bit of let down. I didn’t have one as I was too full, but mum and dad did but didn’t rave about it. Mum skipped eating the rest of her dessert so she and I could go off and get in to see the last performance of the day of the Beauty and the Beast Stage Show. Dad obviously stayed behind and finished off his dessert and then paid for the meal using our dining plan cards. He managed to see the show but we didn’t catch up with him until after the show because both mum and I managed to get front row seats, where as dad was sitting at the back.
The Beauty and Beast stage show was a half hour adaptation of the Disney film and was done in an almost pantomime style with bright colours, big costumes etc. It was all very pretty.

When we came out of there and met up with dad, someone pointed to my Mr Benn t-shirt I was wearing and said ‘Mr Benn! Sweet!’ Our next attraction was the Playhouse Disney – Live on Stage show which we ended up going out of because it was full of babies and little kids and show for more aimed towards them.
We then went into Walt Disney – One Man’s Dream, which was a museum about the life of Walt Disney and included Disney memorabilia and some original drawings and props made by Walt Disney himself. There was also a 15 minute film to watch all about his life and how he started making cartoons which was very interesting.

After we came out of there, it was getting dark. We wanted to see the Fantasmic show again and decided to go to the second performance at 10pm like we did before. So this gave us a bit longer to go on rides. We managed to get on Star Tours, a Star Wars motion simulator ride, and to see Muppet Vision 3D again before we headed over to see Fantasmic.

With all the night time shows we had seen, mum found it difficult to choose which her favourite was. I had thought Fantasmic all along and it certainly was, as seeing it for a second time you could see how spectacular it was as there’s so much into it with all the effects, fireworks, music, scenes. The whole of it is just brilliant from start to finish.
There were parts in it particularly the finale which made me feel like crying it was just so wonderful.

When it was over though it was time to go back to the hotel and get to bed. However as we left the park we took one last look at the giant Mickey sorcerer hat and all the colours surrounding it, including the giant spotlights in the sky.

First timer trip report...the final part!

WEDNESDAY 26TH MARCH 2008

After our last breakfast, of which we made worthwhile by having our last pancakes and last apples in caramel sauce, and some other snacks, we went back to our room and packed our cases. Once they were done we called ‘Bell Services’ to come and collect our cases and keep them in the departure locker until we were due to leave at 3pm that afternoon.

After they had been collected, we went off to spend some time on the beach. Mum and I managed to grab a hammock to lie in but we couldn’t stay too long in them as it was too hot in the full sun, so we got some seats and laid in the shade under palm trees.
A couple of hours later we got lunch from the same building we had been having breakfast in, and by the time we had finished there it was nearly time to catch the Disney Magical Express bus to take us to the airport.

It wasn’t long before it arrived, and soon enough we were on our way to the airport. As we were going along I felt very sad to be leaving a place that had been my dream to go to for many years, and it was the most fantastic experience ever.

At the airport, we went to the British Airways check-in desk, and as we were waiting there with our suitcases, an attendant came up to us and wanted to look at our passports to help speed the check-in along a bit. As she handed them back, she noticed some white substance on her hands. She looked daggers at us and said ‘was there something on those passports?’ and there wasn’t. She looked all round, and then went off. We were wondering what was going to happen next, whether security was going to come and arrest us or something. Eventually she came back and said that the substance hadn’t come from us, but she washed her hands anyway, and then proceeded to check us in, three seats together by a window.

Finally, we had some time to look round the shops in the airport before we had to go through security and get onto the plane. There were shops there dedicated to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Seaworld and Kennedy Space Center. Mum managed to get some badges from each of the shops, and in the Walt Disney World one I got the “Official Album” of music heard in the parks, and mum got some photo albums to put all our photos in. Also I got a baseball cap from the Kennedy Space Center shop that says NASA on the front and Kennedy Space Center on the back.

Soon it was time to go through security. It was more or less the same procedure as it was going out to America, but this time we had to take our shoes off as well to be scanned. Eventually we got on the plane, and found our seats, thought it was going to be perfect until the people who were sitting in front of us got settled.

Once the plane was in flight, two of them decided to extend their seats to as far back as they could possibly go. As I have long legs it affected me more than mum as it was more or less crushing my legs so was difficult to move. We politely spoke to the people in front and said could you move their seats forward a bit because of the situation, and they pretended to ignore us. Eventually, as I was really uncomfortable, I pushed my knees into the back of the seat to make it as uncomfortable for them as it was for me to get my point across. Of course this provoked a response. The man turned round with an angry face and said ‘Do you mind not pushing your legs into the back of my seat?’ and I immediately replied, ‘Well if your seat was further forward then you wouldn’t feel my legs, and as they are I’m getting cramp thanks to you.’ The man didn’t say anything but shuffled in his seat to try and make it go back further.

At one point we spoke to a stewardess but told us there was nothing they could do, but if there were any spare seats further back we could move to them. Mum and I got up to have a look but all the spare seats were taken by people lying across them sleeping.
Dad suggested I changed places with him as the young girl of the family in front hadn’t put her seat back. Though shortly after I had got settled in there, she ended up putting her seat back too.
The only way around was every time they went to the loo we all pushed their seats forward which gave us a bit of relief until they returned.

I didn’t sleep the whole journey home, I may have shut my eyes a couple of times but I was still listening to my MP3 player. I watched one film on the way back, which was Beowulf, a motion capture animated film. I had seen the film before in Bradford’s IMAX theatre as part of a University trip to the Media Museum there, and enjoyed it so thought I’d watch it again. Dad watched the film too, but mum wasn’t that keen on it and decided to watch Calendar Girls instead.

We arrived back in the UK about 7am ish in the morning, it took a while before the plane was able to dock in the terminal but we were eventually let off. So then we went through passport control and downstairs to collect our suitcases. I managed to get two off the conveyor belt, and dad got the other one. Once outside, we were absolutely freezing, and we were shivering. I don’t know whether it was down to just being used to the warm weather in Florida or whether it was really cold that morning.
As we waited for the bus to take us to the car park, both mum and I both felt like we wanted to cry due to the wonderful holiday that we had had and how brilliant everything seemed to be out there compared to the UK.

So that is virtually the end of my rather long essay. Once we got home, we went straight to bed for a few hours, and unlike our trip to Canada, we didn’t seem to be so jetlagged as there, because the following day we managed to get up at lot earlier than we did when home from Canada.
Overall though it was a fantastic holiday, the best I have ever had, like a dream come true. The holiday of a lifetime that I had waited for had finally come, and it didn’t disappoint. It was better than I ever expected it would be. So all that's left to say is - Roll on 2009!!! :ROFLOL:

The End.

Welcome aboard

Good old Travelodge eh :ROFLOL: What a great way to start your trip.

You were unlucky and learnt the hard way when it comes to Advanced Reservations for dining (as most people do unless they have friends or family "in the know") At least you won't have these problems when you go next year.

Nice report - thanks for sharing
