HI! I'm a first timer and I am planning a 7-9 day trip in December (the week before Christmas)

There are three of us (two oldies in our 40's and 50's) and our 14 year old daughter. After reading this board for some time, and reading Mousesavers/Allearsnet , and factoring in budget issues, I have come up with four scenarios:

1. Stay at Swan (teacher's discount) Use Disney transportation. Have money left over for extras (Cirque, watermice, etc.)

2. Stay at WL/AKL--split stay. One of us gets AP so we can get discount. Rent subcompact so we don't have to rely on busses. Listen to DH grumble about how he hastes to drive on vacation. Don't have money left over for extras.

3. Stay at WL/AKL--split stay. One of us gets AP so we can get discount. Use disney transo. Listen to DH and DD grumble about how they hate to wait for transportation. Have money left over for extras.

4. Stay at Boardwalk. One of us gets AP so we can get discount. Use disney transpo, but don't have money left over for extras.

We are really into nice hotels (our favorite "outside" the world is the GCH in the "other" disney" so I don't think we are interested in a moderate. I would appreciate any advice! Thanks.

I would have to agree with those that say that the Disney Transportaion is fine. You just need a "little" patience. And I might say that aren't you on vacation to take it easy and soak up the little things? Enjoy. Tell your vacation partners to take it easy.

As for the resorts, I've had the opportunity over the years to stay at The Poly, The Contemp. and All Star Sports. My Wife and I visited Swan/Dolphin, didn't really care for them due to no theming. Although their location is spectacular. Boardwalk looks good, as does The Grand Floridian. With an AP you can get great rates at all the deluxes, which is where you'll get the most bang for your buck with an AP. I would say that it depends on what amenities you require, since you mentioned that the hotel is important to you. I personally have a dream of staying at the GF, but will have to do it with an AP to afford it. The other decision you have to make is which you'd rather have. Will all of you want to do any extras, watermice, horseback riding, fishing, golf, nice sit-down meals, etc etc? Or would you rather pay more for accomodations? If you want money left over for extras, then take the best rate at one of the hotels on your list. Which is the other thing that I do when planning our vacations there. I make a list of comparisons, complete with total pricing from start to finish of our vacation, then decide from there.

Enjoy your stay.

I would avoid split stays. Nothing bites more than having to pacK up and switch rooms in the middle of your vacation. I have had to do that many times when I have gone with my wife. EW!!!

Before deciding where you want to stay, you should think about what you want to do in terms of how many days at each park. We recently returned from WDW and spent 6 nights/7 days at the Polynesian. For us, we planned on spending 2 days at Magic Kingdom and 2 days at Epcot and only one day each at AK and DS. This made the Polynesian a great choice. I requested a room in the Rapa Nui building which is the closest building to the Ticket and Transportation Center. We walked there from our room and caught the monorail to the MK and Epcot. We used the buses for AK and DS which worked out great. We saved money buy not needing to rent a car and used QUICKSILVER towncar service for our transportation from the airport and back. I know the Polynesian was not on your original list, but it is a beautiful resort and really was a convienient location. We purchased the Silver package and used Magical wishes to go see Cirque and had front row seats. The show was great.

All of them are amazing. I have seen La Nouba and Dralion live, but have seen the DVD and tv shows. The only one I don't like is Quidam. It is just a little weird for me.
