First timer...HELP!

I'm going to WDW with my boyfriend (who's been 9 times!)
It'll be our one year anniversary together... I'm thinking that he might even propose since he's always talked of maybe getting married at WDW!
My question is how can someone who has never been to WDW make decisions in advance on romantic restaurants and special activities? I do have the Unofficial Guide and the Unofficial Guide for Couples. I have been browsing the web for menus and maybe even pics of restaurants. I've read that V and A's seems very elegant, but too dressy for my casual guy. I would love to go to the San Angel Inn, but I have such a finicky bf!
Also, he's paying for this trip ... I'd like to plan a special activity as a reward. I was thinking maybe a spa treatment at the GF. Do they have hot air balloon rides on the property? Anything special at Disneyquest?
Thanks in Advance!
(I did get the free vacation planning video, but it really doesn't cover meals, etc.)

California Grill, on the top floor of the Contemporary, is a very nice restaurant. It's pricey, but worth it. Also, you can step out on to the observation deck and watch the fireworks at the MK, one of our favorite romantic things to do! They even pipe in the music!

Another fun thing is to take the monorail over to the Poly at night, and take a stroll down to the docks. Get a drink from the bar, and relax and watch the floating water pageant. I forget the time it comes by, but that's easy to find. It's a cute little show.

The first time we did these, I did not tell my wife what we were doing. I simply told her we were going out, then went to the Poly, saw the water show, then hopped the monorail to the Contemporary, went up and saw the fireworks, and then walked over to the MK for an E-Ride night. We had a blast, and my wife thought that it was our nicest night at WDW!:D

Oh my goodness there are just so many choices for romance in Disneyworld!!!! I'd check out dinner at the Castle. The best place out of anything i have found for menus in WWW.WDWIG.COM her information is wonderful and she has menus of everyplace in Disney that there is to eat. As far as something special, check there also. Spa treatment (massage etc.) sounds nice but what about a private cruise for just the two of you to take you over to see Reflections of Earth in EPCOT?? That would be nice and wasnt too terribly pricey as I recall. Good luck and have an amazing time!!!

Might I suggest eating at the Artists' Point restuarant at the Wilderness Lodge late one evening? The food is probably the best on property, and the setting is very refined and quiet, and afterward, providing that it's not on a weekend and you eat late enough that the pool is closed once you're done, the lakeside area behind the resort is a really beautiful place to walk around in, and should be practically deserted.

I also would have to second Tigger's reccomendation for the Polynesian. If you've never been, go, even just for a few minutes. The lobby garden is one of the most spectacular sights at WDW, not to mention FREE. Park the car here, tell the security guard you're going to the shops and restuarants, then hitch a ride on the monorail and go to the parks. This is a great way to see more of the resort AND shave a few minutes off your parking/driving time. This way, you can come back to the car after nightfall and take a stroll on the beaches before heading back to wherever you're staying at.

Unless both of y'all are huge video game fans, you would do well to stay away from Disneyquest. It's really nothing more than an overgrown arcade with some minor theming and a cover charge.

Here's my take on what is romantic. etc..........

I truly believe that EVERY WHERE can be romantic....but you can have different takes on what romantic should be. I personally think being romantic in WDW can be MANY things: going to the 7:15pm Hoop-Dee Doo Revue, then going outside & waiting for the Electrical Water Parade....not your "typical" romantic night, but fun & enjoyable nonetheless.

I agree with that above post...Artists POint in the WIlderness Lodge is one of the BEST dinners around...we took pictures of our plates on our honeymoon cuz we were SO in awe of the dinner! haha

Don't worry TOO much about being frilly/romantic...ya know? You can find romance in every nook & cranny in WDW, just have an open mind & enjoy yourself & each other.

Go & purchase mathcing T-shirts (Twinkies as my hubby calls it!!!) You will feel odd at first but everyone does it!

Go buy mathcing Mickey & Minnie ears with your names embroidered on the back & walk around with them.

Take a night & walk around World SHowcase in EPCOT buying a souvenier from each country...

Don;t miss ANYTHING....go on every ride, dont worry about "lines" (they move fast), & make sure you hit every night time show.

ENJOY!!

Try dining at Ohana's at the Poly resort, the food is wounderful and gives you a beautiful view of the castle across the lagoon. Also try dining at Boma's at Animal Kingdom Lodge ,the desserts alone are worth the extra trip.Plus you can see the giraffes and zebras, wilderbeasts walk around the resort's backside near the pool.

If your at the magic kingdom real early ,head to Mickey's Toontown Fair and get a professional photo with the "Mouse" himself.

but most of all : Don't Rush Yourself ,if you miss something it's ok you can always go next year...lol.

Something fun you guys could do is take a private fireworks cruise. Depending on what you spend they will provide snacks, soda, and even some alcohol. You can watch the MK fireworks or Illuminations at Epcot.

Call 407-WDW-PLAY for more info.

Definitely take the Epcot Reflections of Earth cruise...I believe it's something like $120 for the boat...they take you down by MGM to catch the ending of Fantasmic (if they have 2 showings that evening) and you get to cruise around on the boat before the actual show starts. Then they pull the boat underneath the bridges at France (I believe). You get a fantastic view of RoE and it's so romantic. (Well, unless you have a noisy boat next to you :) ) But even if you do, it's still great being there with someone special to you.

romantic plans ahead

Yey! WDW here I come!
I did put a bug in Matt's ear(bf) about Artist's Point for dinner... I think that will be perfect for both of our tastes. We'll definitely visit the Boardwalk for a stroll. He also mentioned the two-person hammocks at CB for some fireworks? not sure which ones, but that sounded awfully romantic too! He's so snuggly, I'm sure we'll be making our romance all over the park! :)
Thank you all for your helpful posts!

I totally agree, this is something you definitely should consider!!! It is very romantic and something that should be shared with someone who is special to you. It gives you a chance to cuddle up to each other and experience Illuminations RoE in a different way! :)
