Relax, take a deep breath, and just wait for the excitement. The first thing to plan for is that you will be there during the absolute busiest time of the year. Get your mindset around that and be prepared. It will be packed and there will be long waits. If you don't have your mindset around that it is going to be a miserable vacation.
I was so worried about SSR as well until I got there. It was our second best stay on Disney property. Look at the resort map and decide where you want to be. The bus travels around the entire resort with convenient stops at each location. Being the busiest time of year, the bus may fill before getting to later stops. That is something to think about. We were in Grandstand and it turned out to be an excellent location. Quiet pool, small snack bar (in season), 5 minute walk to lobby and main pool area, and it was the first bus stop.
If you want to do as much as you can, plan to be at the parks well ahead of opening.
