First Time Renting DVC Points

If a DVC member wants to check for you, they can tell you the current availability. We've worked with David's Vacation Rentals in the past (and have had some communications with the DVC Rental Store as well), and both were pretty up-front with us about the likelihood of getting the rentals we wanted for the dates we were seeking, both in terms of availability of rooms in our desired category/resort, and in terms of whether they would have members who'd listed points that matched up. If you're considering going through them, I'd contact them directly about it.

I'd hazard a guess that the Poly is easier to get than most, since its inventory is comparatively high (and so is the pricing in terms of points), but again, that's just a guess. We rented DVC points from David's for a 2-night Poly stay for our upcoming visit in May, but we made our request at 11 months, and it was able to be met within a couple of days. I had my heart set on it (bucket list item), so it was worth the extra cost to ensure we got it. Otherwise, we'd have waited until 7 months out.
I usually tend to always agree with @Weather_Lady but I will say, as an owner at the Poly, reservations at the 11 month mark for October are possible but not easy. Waiting until the 7 month mark will likely lead to disappointment.

I'd say that's not the case. The Poly is almost always sold out

I would just spend the extra money for the 11 month window. I've rented from David's twice and the customer service they have provided has been fantastic. If there is no availability and you don't want to wait, the deposit will be refunded. If they do have something available, the deposit goes toward your final payment. I switched what I wanted like 5 times before I secured my reservation and they worked with me.

with the 11 month window the room is still cheaper than rack rate correct?
not trying to thread jack but I have always wanted AKL but the rack rate is bonkers.

I just booked 13 days 12 nights at AKL for more than 50% off rack rate from disney and I booked at the 11 month window.

wow that's affordable....

One thing to bear in mind. The savings depend on the room type.

Because of the way DVC points charts work, the savings on a studio are much better than the savings on a 1 bedroom villa. The 1 bed uses twice as many points as a studio, but the rack dates from Disney aren't twice the rack rate of a studio.

Yes we booked the studio- no savannah view the Savannah view was 800.00 more. When my fiancé and I searched for prices for march 2018, AKL studio standard view was ranging anywhere from 6300-8700 on Disney world.com as we got closer to March 2018. We got the DVC for a little over 3k. Didn't want to take any chances waiting for disneys prices to be released since I think it will be no where close to what we paid.

Ok not to hijack the post....but I tried to read about renting points and quickly got distracted. Can someone just give me an example (however broad) of how much it may be to rent DVC points for 2 nights at the poly?

This is the calculator page from David's site.

https://www.dvcrequest.com/cost-calculator.asp

You pay a little more per point if you book at the 11 month window. If you rented privately, you could get it for a bit less per point. A broker gives you more protection.

The main thing you have to consider is that there is effectively a "no cancellation" policy if you rent (either through a broker or privately), unless you take out insurance.

Unfortunately, we tried to book the 2nd week in Dec for the Poly back in February with no luck. Maybe it's the week we wanted that was the problem. We will try earlier and a different month next time. We wanted to see the world during Christmas time this year so I guess everyone else does too. LOL

We generally go in Sept or October. No can't get over the AKL Being that rate for 2 weeks practically when we paid more (but it was a ticket package keep in mind) for the cabins for 6 nights! But that was rack rate for FDD. 🙄

So I just did a mock trip at the poly next October for 5 nights and it was saying 111 points and it was showing a little over a grand...is that per night? I think I missed something.

So on the calculator, you can get the points total and the cost total. That's the total cost. But I'm getting it as more than that for 5 nights, 111 points. I'm getting $1176 (which works out at $16 per point). However whether there's availability is another matter. If you booked at 11 months it's an extra $1 per point.

Yes that's the number I got...sorry I was rounding lol! But that's crazy. $1176 for 5 nights?! Why is it so cheap? Is it sort of like a time share deal where the owners of the points rent the points since they won't be using them??
