First time planning to disney world need some basic info

Hello everyone,

My girlfriend and I and her nephew were thinking about going to disney world in 2022, I was thinking maybe in Sept. I thought it be best to start at the beginning and find out as much as I can. First I wanted to know; which is best to book my vacation through a authorized disney planner or through disney's site. Secondly I read that September is a good time to go to avoid crowds and high hotel prices, is this true? And also is the weather going to make my trip unbearable? I live in California and our heat can be bad but I know Florida weather is much more intense so is this a bad time to go?

I hope to find any help I can, I would like to start planning our first trip there asap and make it a good and fun experience not a bad one.

I’ve booked my own trips and booked through a few TAs. I’m probably well enough versed in all things Disney to do everything myself, but I’m happy to use @Kingdom Konsultant agents to make it all effortless.

@wannabeBelle has taken care of me for a few years now and has taken the stress out of the process. She makes recommendations on hotel choices and touches base regularly about potential discounts and since she knows my tastes after all this time, she has a keen eye for the sorts of things I’ll enjoy. I give her parameters of what I want and she sets it up and watches for anything I should know about.

It can be done yourself, but it can be a lot to deal with even when you’re “experienced” (a nice way to say I’m old). As everything settles with COVID, the uncertainty of this past many months will pass. By September next year you’ll have less things that can go wrong, but it’s always nice to have an expert help you navigate any problems. The reality is, stuff can go wrong on vacation, having an agent in your corner that doesn’t cost you any extra, can save you a lot of heartache and can help fix problems is like free insurance. Over the years I’ve become friends with Marie @wannabeBelle, Pam, a significant number of her other agents and a large number of Pam’s family, that’s just a bonus.

September in WDW will be hot and humid. Early in the month the crowds are heavier, until the local kids go back to school (I think mid-month), then it improves a bit. Take your time, you can’t do everything in one trip and you’ll just burn yourselves out and severely test your friendship. Take breaks, go back to your resort for a swim or a nap when it gets too hot, stop and people-watch occasionally. WDWMagic is a great resource for how to get Virtual Queues, where to eat, where to stay and all the ins and outs of a WDW vacation. I hope you have a fantastic vacation whether you decide to use an agent or not.

Agencies have very good reasons for charging fees. If you worked in the industry for as long as I have you would understand their reasoning.

if you book through an agent can you still make payments like you can on Disney’s website or does the balance have to be paid in full at time of booking

Yes. Our agent has a client portal where I authorize payments on our credit card and then she makes the payments directly to Disney.

As a Floridian I know September can be a bad month hurricanewise. We prefer to go as soon as school is out - end of May to give us the best chance of avoiding them.

September can be less crowded, but it also can still be very warm. Any of the agents at our agency, Kingdom Konsultant Travel, would love to help you with your planning without any fees included. Use a travel agent that doesn’t charge extra, get familiar with Disney’s app, plan to come during the cooler, quieter months (early November or late Jan./early Feb), try not to do your trip during holidays (the crowds can be unbearable) and watch lots of YouTube videos to help you determine what you want to do and what you’re ok skipping. Winging it at WDW is really hard unless you’re experienced or don’t feel any FOMO because there’s just so much to see! Have a great trip!

Wondering how relevant the unofficial 2021 guide will be for a trip in Feb of 2022. I would expect lots of changes to happen before then, as due to the pandemic - lots of changes have already happened

The unofficial guide will have all the basic information on hotels rides etc.. Procedures may change and a ride will open and there will be more transportation options with luck but the basic info will remain the same. The GF isn't going to become a value and their site is constantly updated

A big part of your planning should be where to stay. If you can afford it, stay on property at one of Disney's resorts. There's a ton of information on Disney's website as well as fan sites, YouTube, etc. that discuss the pros & cons of each resort. Then there is the (somewhat less known) option of renting DVC (Disney Vacation Club) points and booking a room this was to save $$ while staying on property. It's good that you have lots of time to decide, as there is a lot to consider when visiting WDW!
